An interesting story, at least, I think it could be, after you've cleared up something things. After wracking my brain for a bit I think I managed to work out some of what you were going for.

Well, first I think that the victims represent different influences, different aspects of the Voice, if you will. I'm not sure what Trajan is. Perhaps he is the voice of sympathy and empathy that causes us to look to the wellbeing of other people before we look to ourselves, thereby hamstringing our personal growth. Danny seems pretty straight forward, he's rage, anger; the negative, violent emotions that tells us that everything around us is a threat that must be destroyed before it destroys us, an unthinking urge to defend ourselves from everything. Ms. Mao seems to be sexuality in general, which also distracts us from our own self-growth. We look to others to complete us before we are complete in ourselves. Not sure about the gender shifting, other than it probably denotes that our hero has some confusion going on in the sexuality department or perhaps itâEUTMs simply a statement that sexuality is not as cut and dry as we like to pretend.

The old man is the sense of purposeâEU¦ actually, it suddenly occurs to me that the demons are not so much negative influences to be rejected as they are positive aspects that must be gatheredâEU¦ hmmâEU¦ thatâEUTMs interesting. It changes things, I might have to go look at this again. Goddamn it, this is why they invented âEUoedeath of the authorâEU.

Anyway, I'd like to see this more developed, maybe even to novel length, at least novella. I think you're on to something real cool here.
