I mean seriously, I thought the one thing that brought Europeans together was patriotism and soccer. That's why I think these leftist groups are probably just trying to inflame a situation with the Muslims.

Hell, Europe has teared apart itself for nearly 900 years, this isn't really a news flash to them. Though it is kinda sad that leftist groups are teasing Muslims, when they're supposed to be more tolerent then on the other wing. Refer to above comment.

I might understand if they were rooting for another country because people get very serious about their sports, especially national teams; but discriminating against a fellow fan is rather odd and is about as obvious as anything.

It's soccer, this is considered serious shit in Germany. And just like in any sport or facet of entertainment, fanboys will leach onto something they like, and give all the other level-headed fans a bad name. And I suppose throwing blood bombs and flares at rival teams doesn't really help matters any.

Hmm..., it sounds like I have become Jim Rome.

But that does leave the question: Why is Soccer more popular than American Football on a global level?

Just one of the many mysteries of life, I guess, though some nations do have some sort of American football league, it isn't as big as the NFL, and probably won't be anytime soon.

Could it be that it really is a better game? Not many nations other than the U.S.A. like American Football.

Canada has the CFL, which is pretty close to the NFL in terms of talent and ability, and other countries like Japan and England seem to have a cult like following for U.S.A football.

When the best of U.S. Soccer can't seem to beat a tiny 3rd world nation, not just once, but twice, then that is a pretty damn clear sign that our soccer program is in the shitter and we shouldn't really give a fuck.
At least they don't have a football team, at least I hope not.

On the other side of the coin, odds are the Ming does not have any guns, and if you remember the Pirate vs. Knight battle, the flintlock guns, {and guns in general} proved that even steel armor is obsolete, and I'll bet that the Ming aren't as heavily armored as the knight was.

I got to go with the Ming warrior here, basically because I view the Musketeer as more legend and fable than historical fact, though I maybe going down a slippery slope here, considering I haven't even heard of Zande warriors and the Rajput before, and they won by a lot.

Also, parents need to stop thinking their kids are the greatest thing to ever happen to the world. Have you ever been to a little league game where the coaches think their kids are the best? Holy fuck......

At 6/26/10 04:28 PM, Ranger2 wrote: If I could reform the jail system, I would abolish life in prison, and replace it with the death penalty.

Let the proverbial shitstorm begin, this will get messy.

I don't see the point with life in jail. There is no possible way a lifer can truly benefit society or anything else by being stuck in prison. Death would be a cheaper option, and do more good.

Blame the moralist for not allowing a sick son of a bitch who killed his wife and kids because his dog told him to. I'll agree with your point, but the moralist and the lawyers won't allow him to die posthaste.

What do lifers have to look forward to? If you've ever seen the Shawshank Redemption, lifers' lives are over. They will be surrounded by rapists, murderers, and criminals their whole lives, subject to rape, beatings, and fights. How humane is that compared to peace of death? I think if anything, it would be more humane to kill a convict rather than give him life in prison.

Uh, the Shawshank Redemption has little to do with the state killing Decapating Harry, More than likely, he or she would join a prison gang and probably get maimed or killed before his date with "old sparky." Just watch Gangland, you'll get the gist of it.

Lifers are a strain on prisons. They will be reliant on the jail forever, meaning that they will exacerbate overcrowding prisons. They get food, water, shelter, recreation, and health care from our taxes.

Well in some respects, you do have to shelter and feed inmates too, because in America, we have standards of life for Americans, We can't just lock the door, and forget about them, we're not that cruel, I think.

That is truly unfair.

Nickel for every time I heard that, I'd be richer than Bill Gates. Moving on.....

The common man must struggle for all of those things, while these inmates did a crime and get all of these without breaking a sweat.

I will assume you never ate prison food before, nor do you have guards armed with M4s and shotguns nearby.

Lifers also can escape. Jailbreaks can give a murderer or rapist a second chance at freedom. Death is the only way to keep bad people like that off our streets.

Last time I checked, most inmates can't get over an electrified fence covered in razor wire for good measure, much less get peppered by gun toting guards at the gate. And even if they do, I'm fairly certain that they will be on AMW.

And no, unlike many other posts, this is NOT a satire.

Uh, Sure thing there.

And If I may add a little something, If we do intend to get rid of the life sentance in prison, there are 2 things to mull over:

1. Make sure the crime fits the punishment. In other words, don't go after Johnny Carjacker or Jimmy Potsmoker and slap their ass into the death chamber. Save it for criminals I'd mentioned eariler, and make sure there is enough evidence to convict the bastard.

2. A simplier way for execution, "Two in the chest, One in the head." Now you don't have to waste chemicals or electricity to kill the fucker, just 3 rounds and you're done.

Haha. That Bills-Browns game last season, makes it hard for me to respect either team until some serious changes are made. Shit I've seen high school football games that were better played than that one. And even with new blood at RB for both teams, I'd say it still looks pretty grim. Particularly with the Chiefs, Raiders, and Lions all slowly improving in my mind. I think the Browns and Bills, may only have the Rams and maybe Seahawks/Bucs to compete with for "shit-stain" of the league honours this year.

The Seahawks play in a sucky division with the Rams, so at least they should finish 2nd or 3rd with a bad, but respectable record, around a 6-10, or 7-9, and Caroll won't have to worry about breaking any more NCAA rules, lol.

As for the Browns, part of me wants to say there on their way up, what with all their moves offseason, but another part of me says, they will still fuck it up like they always do, and finish below the Mendoza line yet again. Hell, I've seen OSU 3rd stringers do stuff that the Browns couldn't do, much less a bunch of yahoos in a pick-up football game. I suppose though, If they beat the Steelers twice though, then the Clowns are on Easy Street for the rest of the season.

I'd would imagine that it wouldn't really be any different, though I would expect a lot more people around due to Strief having a SB ring.

Some Browns players did the same thing too where I lived, but all they really did was make asses of themselves, missing tackles, stumbling on the tires and dropping the ball like crazy. It was like they didn't want to be there in the first place, rather they wanted to go back to their million dollar homes, and wait for minicamps.

Actually, I protest this as well. I know they are stationed there to augment the ability of the U.S. to employ power projection, but I would much prefer them to be stationed in the U.S. and its territories, close to home.

The main reason for troops stationed in Japan and Germany was because of the Cold War. The Russians and their allies wanted to spread communism throughout Western Europe and the Far East, and America had to put bases in those places, so that communism stayed on their side of the wall and out of Japan, South Korea, etc, That's my theory.

I agree that there shouldn't be permanent bases in foreign countries, what with the Cold War ending nearly 20 years ago and whatnot.

Because that's what we're looking at with Afghanistan and Iraq, people. We will have a continued military presence there for the next several decades, conflicts or not. That's what we do, that's how we operate.

Response to: American Football Discussion Posted June 21st, 2010 in Clubs & Crews

I'm not sure this has been mentioned on this thread before, but this it really important and I don't want to imagine a season without a Super Bowl.

As we all know, this season is a uncapped year, where teams can spend as much as they please and have no cap penalties, but it does get worse from here, right now, NFL owners are dashing towards a lockout season by persuading the Supreme Court to adopt a radical new plan to eliminate the leverage the players union had for free agency, benefits and so on.

They also to extensions to TV contracts to the NFL, even if they is no games to broadcast due to a work stoppage. In other words, the league will still rake in the dough, even if no football is playing on Fox, CBS, NBC and ESPN.

Clearly, DeMaurice Smith and the rest of the NFLPA needs to start negotations with the owners if they want to have football in 2011, not just for themselves, but more importantly, to the fans like us who pack into the stadiums every Sunday and tune in to the games on TV. This isn't the first time that the league went into a strike, as there was in 1982 and 1987, but unlike 2011, those strikes shorten seasons, but didn't cancel the whole season before it even started.

So american football fans of NG, what are your opinions on the potential lockout/strike, and who do you think is at fault here? Hopefully, they will get something done before we have to find something else to watch on a football Sunday and Monday.
