Response to: Empire's Top 100 Greatest Games Posted August 17th, 2014 in Video Games

Obviously, with any list of greatest games, there is a lot to be considered and they are supposed to be subjective. However, it seems like Empire's list is pretty much one of the worst I've seen. Some games are honestly ranked way too high or shouldn't even be on the list, while some others aren't even listed at all, but the other game within the franchise are listed here despite being the inferior game. I don't know if Empire covers video games that much, but if they don't, they might be better off not doing so until they get a serious VG expert.

Frankly, we're better off making our own best game lists here or on our blogs. IIRC.

You need to take that with a serious grain of salt. Checking through the video history of "StormCloudsGathering", they are pretty much nothing more than a conspiracy seekers who are using the stereotypical "wool over our eyes" and "wake up people" schtick without out and out saying it. If nothing else, they are only muddling the waters further, and not really helping what really went on.

Not to mention that they are pretty lousy when it comes to fact-checking and easily take anything that is said way out of context.

Corporations have no say on military matters anymore than your YouTube war experts, which should be pretty obvious. Also, with the rising cost of college, how in the hell else are they going to get to college without a scholarship? Scholarships don't grow on trees, and college is ridiculously expensive, especially with student loans.

Naturally, the police are going to defend their own guys, though I would imagine that they will have a hard time trying to defend shooting someone 10 times, even when the other person is armed and belligerent. A lot of people have a distrust with the police already, and it's kind of hard not to see why.

However, the black community seems to have a problem every time that there is a major injustice that is committed against them, (not all mind you) they respond by getting up at arms and essentially rioting, defeating any sympathy that they may have beforehand, and perpetuates the same stereotypes that they get accused of time after time, it's a never ending cycle. Frankly, this is not much different than the riots in Cincinnati in '01 over a similar situation, (memory is a little fuzzy on what happened, but I do know that the policeman was ruled not guilty) and soon after that, a lot of entertainment icons basically protested against the city because of that.

Other than general blind rage, I do not understand why would some parts of the black community would act this way thinking that anything would change every time that one of their own is shot down or beaten by someone of a different race. Looting and pillaging your own community doesn't help your cause, and really only perpetuates the same stereotypes against black people. MLK Jr. and even Malcolm X would be spinning in his grave every time that something like this happens.

Canada is the rip-off version of America in almost every way.

Toronto is essentially a little version of New York, from being the biggest city in their respective countries, to having their own version of Times Square. Alberta is essentially a less populated version of Texas, but a lot colder and lamer as well, and Vancouver is basically a mash-up of Seattle and Portland put together, with a crappy hockey team that chokes in the playoffs every time.

About the only things that Canada has better than America is a better view of Niagara Falls, having a lot of babes per capita, {though it's debatable} and the legal age of drinking is 19. {Like that makes much of a difference considering that teen drinking in America is pretty ubiquitous.}

Response to: Nintendo's aging ability to "Grasp" Posted August 10th, 2014 in Video Games

At 8/10/14 07:30 PM, skykid10 wrote: 1. But what do yall think it was about Nintendo in the glory days (1988-circ.2006) that made them stand out so much as video game designers?

For a long time, they were regarded as the "that video game company" that entered into pop culture in the 80's, and has been there since. Though in the late 90's and early 2000's, they were falling behind both Sony's Playstation juggernaut and Microsoft's Xbox meteoric rise into the gaming scene had made them second fiddle, and it didn't help that western game companies like EA, Activision, Take-Two and others began to make games that were equal and even surpass the quality of Japanese titles, which is still in effect today.

Until the N64, Nintendo had a huge wave of momentum on their side, as everything that they made was an instant success, until the market literately changed in the mid to late 90's when the Playstation took over, followed by the PS2, which is the best selling console in history. Ironically enough, it was the Wii that took their "kiddie" console and ran away with it, becoming the most successful console of that generation, sales-wise at least {games were a whole different story}

2. What do you think of Nintendo today and what do you think of the modern day gaming community's claim of 'Nintendo's Decline'?

In spite of my criticism towards Nintendo in the past, I still respect them for reviving a nearly dead industry in the early 80's and help turned it into what it is today. That said, I do believe that they are soon going to fall behind the Xbone and PS4, it's simply a matter of time before they do, and there is really nothing they can do about it. I know for a fact that they will not get the same audience that they got with the Wii last time, as the "casual" market has moved on towards mobile gaming or went with the other consoles/PC, and in spite of all of the criticisms with the Xbone and PS4, people are still going to buy these consoles and the games for their consoles are not far off.

The rather bogus argument that some people have said is "But the Wii U has games while the others don't" doesn't hold much water to me. First off, the other consoles have games too, it just so happens that a lot of them are still with the 360 and PS3 which will be supported for at least another year or two, hell, PS2 games were still being made well within the PS3's span.

Second, Nintendo essentially burnt some bridges with some big western game publishers, which means that their third-party support will be much more limited than they usually had to deal with in previous generations. Say what you want about EA, they do publish/make a lot of good games that people like, and the last console that spurned EA {Sega Dreamcast} didn't fare too well. As the old saying goes "Sometimes it's the devil that you know is better than the devil you don't know."

Simply put, is Nintendo going away? Not at all, only an idiot would think that. Will Nintendo be the top dog in this generation? I greatly doubt that, and word around the grapevine is when MS and Sony get their act together with their consoles, expect Nintendo to be picking up bronze pretty soon.

I honestly never thought that we see the day that Iran and America stand on some sort of common ground in the Middle East. Ideally, Iran should be willing to work with us, and we should probably back off comparing them with the likes of North Korea and such, though what happened in 1979 is still going to be pretty fresh in their minds and ours, even if it shouldn't be that big of a deal now.

I guess this is a case of "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" and "keep your friends close and your enemies closer." Not that I would explicitly trust Iran in much of anything, but both the U.S. and Iran might not have much of a choice.

I might be generalizing here, but to Hamas the only good Israeli is a dead one, and this isn't their first time that this mentality percolated in the region. It's no wonder why Israel doesn't take any chances with terror groups, not that I condone their actions, but dealing with 65 years of Arab forces who want them exterminated does mean fighting dirty is a necessity.

I've heard this way too many times here on the forums, and even on the outside. It's fucking ridiculous how people keep using petty excuses to not play games and treat it like some sort of cop-out. Whatever you do, don't listen to those who are blinded by nostalgia. Modern games are just as good, if not better than their older counterparts, and to try to say otherwise is essentially being disingenuous. I'm not saying ignore the older games, simply don't let nostalgia cloud your thinking the way it has others. (I won't name names)

That aside, I can't simply point to one thing that makes people lose to do anything. (including gaming) Like anything else, you generally go through peaks and valleys with gaming, but considering the huge amount of games that are available, there is always something new to play or even replay.

To me, there is one justifiable reason why ports/remakes are around in general. It's because a lot of gamers that were stuck with one console probably never got a chance to play the original version because it was on a different console. Most people aren't going to spend hand over foot for another console just to play one game, so it only makes sense that they remake/port a game that isn't being made anymore for other consoles.

Plus, it's not like they're removing all of the old copies, so the choices are still there for everyone to get.

Because MS and Sony are still working on their 7th generation consoles along with their recent console entries. Considering that they were making games for the PS2 well into the PS3 era, it'll be a while before they go exclusively with their respective consoles.

Not to mention with the Wii U's struggles, I'd say that MS and Sony can afford to be patient with the Xbone and PS4.

Ok, all that stuff happens on a very infrequent basis, (think once in a blue moon) and often times, it's because a suspect was being belligerent. As for that video game being mistaken for a weapon, you must remember that officer are trained to draw their guns when there is something perceived to be a gun, even if it isn't, not to mention that many places in Europe don't allow private ownership of guns without serious paperwork to begin with.

First of all, I just explained that the pledge of alliegance is just words that most kids ignore to begin with, and second, all countries have some sort of "brainwashing tool" (which is a loaded term BTW) such as national anthems, symbols and what have you in saying what makes their country special and great.
