I just love how we pick and choose random little details and magically assume that just because there is a similarity between them means it's an automatic rip-off. I'll take it that no has heard of pure coincidences before. The sheer amount of stupidity in this thread is overwhelming.

It's the special ingredients that separates Mexican Coke from regular Coke, particularly with the fact that Mexican Coke is closer to the original formula (as in having actual cocaine) and it tends to be just as addictive.

Nintendo losing another third-party franchise again? Boy, things are looking too hot for the Big N now, and I'll probably guess all those dumbasses who said that the Nintendo will catch lightning in a bottle again and beat the PS4 and Xbone has egg on their faces.

I hate to see this happen with Nintendo, I really do, but they largely brought it upon themselves for continuing to dismiss 3rd party support when they needed it the most.

Response to: Indie "retro" 2D gimmic platformers Posted August 25th, 2014 in General

FYI, this belongs on the VG forum, kind of makes me wonder why this keeps slipping through the cracks, whatever.

Regardless, I happen to agree with the subject at hand. Most of the 2D retro platformers that indie developers love to make are ripping off some of the mechanics and devices of old NES/SNES/Genesis games, if not shamelessly making carbon copies of said games with the serial numbers filed off, and the sad part is that spoiled hipster gamers and indie fanboys will treat it as a saving grace of gaming when it's not even close to being that. {not that it really needs it}

If indie games want to be taken seriously by the majority of gamers, then they should be held to the same standard that AAA developers have when it comes to games. Enough with idiots coddling minor-league game developers, bring in the major league squads and see if they can hit above the Mendoza line. {metaphorically speaking of course.}

Response to: Judging Anime as a Whole Posted August 25th, 2014 in General

Unfortunately, anime is one of those mediums that is not well respected in the West by those who aren't anime fans whether it's simply not knowing or caring what it is, to general xenophobia and everything in-between. It also doesn't really help that there isn't a lot of anime that is shown on TV anymore, and when it is shown today, it's only on late night Saturday, though in all fairness, it's like that for a long time and they have pretty much done well. In short, it's largely due to either personal taste, pop couture isolation, or simple ignorance/racism.

As a fellow anime fan, I am sympathetic to the OP's objections to an extent, but the realization is that anime is a niche market with a niche fanbase (a growing one, but still small) in the West, and partly because of it's foreign material, a segment of anime critics and haters use that as a crux against it. There are also a lot of other factors that go into this as well, (such as fan bases, what's being made, even the economics of it all.) but the disrespect aspect is the biggest bugaboo about anime.

Oh, they will care if they screw up badly enough. Our tolerance for politicians misbehaving may be pretty high, but that doesn't mean that folks won't put up with it forever, especially in swing states/districts which go either way. As Warforger said, people tend to forgive and/or forget after all of the details are out and the political fallout disappears, as long as the timing is right.

Then they pay attention to what the multinationals have to say (until they're running for re-election again).

That still doesn't excuse you for not voting if you are into politics in the first place. Even if there is some truth in your argument, you're simply trying to cop-out of actually having the one effective way to enact change in politics.

Nope. I don't know if you are trolling or just stupid but America is far from being an unstable country.

Some major war would not just help advanced states to secede, but can even destroy the whole country. Hope they will change something!

As I just said earlier, if there was a nuclear war and central government (Washington D.C.) falls, then you would see states eventually split, but that's not going to happen at all. There is no incentive for any state to secede from the Union, no matter how much saber-rattling and pretend hurt feelings goes on in state Congress. OP, meet interstate freeway traffic.

That stuff rarely, if ever works. Politicians aren't going to be swayed very much by the garden-variety rallies/protests unless they affect them directly. {i.e Wisconsin union protests in 2011} Also, most protests/rallies rarely having enough staying power for the average Joe to care, and it doesn't help that secondary elements to said protest usually does them in because the uniting factor eventually becomes compromised.

Frankly, protesting against politicians is not the same as a vote because they aren't going to be affected by it at all, that's one of the reasons why the OWS movement got nothing done and went up in flames. The only way that you can change the system is to vote, why do you think that crap like Rock the Vote or Vote or Die campaigns were used for during election years for?

Newgrounds isn't the kind of place where SJWs would be coming here in huge numbers, and if anything, would easily be put down by folks here and for good reason. There are always going to be one or two trolls that may slip through the cracks, but there is no way that they have any lasting power.

The problem with SJWs is that they either exaggerate the issue to the point where it becomes overwhelming and literately turns off the common folk to their beliefs, or just too stupid to be taken seriously, but will be defended by even more idiots which defeats the whole point of conversation in the first place.

Response to: When people say today's music sucks Posted August 23rd, 2014 in General

It's easy for us to say that music played on the radio is crap, it's been that way for many years, there is no one reason why it's like that, and to try to simply point to a singular reason is simply missing the forest from the trees. Yes, major record companies have a huge part in that, along with the usual generation gap and pigeon-holed stereotypes that go along with it, but the thing about music in general is that it's a democracy (I believe Canas already mentioned this before) and there are literately thousands of artists that are out there, so there is no viable excuse for people not to get good music.

In fact, musical democracy has been around long before the Internet, with the advent of records, mix-tapes, uncensored CDs and so on. Of course, you'll naturally going to have those who'll enjoy whatever is on the Top 40, edited for content, but that doesn't mean that it's the only reliable source of music, and hasn't been for decades. I could go on and on, but I'm sure that most everyone understood what I'm talking about.

Dark souls is basically only beatable if you have no life and can jam away all day every day for hours for a month straight.

Now I just lost you there, because you are comparing two different games that are basically in the same difficulty level, though the designs are much different. If we are purely going by that regard, games like Battletoads, Contra, Shin Megami Tensai games, or even Demon Souls {cheap and full of little oversights that it has} would be more qualified. It just seems like you keep changing the goalposts in your argument, it's hard to justify said argument beyond that standard opinion defense.

Yes, they may have a strong economy that rivals that of South Korea and Belgium, along with enough man-power and resources to provide a decent standing army by itself, there is no way that they'll seriously considering splitting from the Union, and only suggest this either as an empty threat or as a joke to stick at people's craws.

No, not really. In fact, most of the other games you have mentioned so far have legitimate cases to be in most serious gamers' top 20 list, {even if it they are mostly modern games so far} but I {and most others for that matter} don't think that Super Meat Boy should be on that list at all when there are more qualified games for that spot.

This has nothing to do with AAA vs. indie development favoritism, {God forbid we need to regurgitate the same elitist BS from both sides, but far more so coming from indie developers} it's simply a matter of quality.

This would be better if you actually list the best games in your own blog instead of listing them one at a time on the forums, not to mention that you haven't exactly given us much time to even comment on them.

Also, Super Meat Boy being on this list pretty much makes this list null and void. There is no comprehensive way that SMB should be in any top all-time list of games.

That actually makes a lot of sense, no one wants to fight against their own countrymen, but if they decide that want to join a terror group that we are at war against, then that automatically means that their rights from the old country are null and void. Not like they would ever want to come back anyway, but putting the persona non grata to them is still meaningful, though it's more effective to just kill them outright as policy dictates.

He's basically preaching to the choir about how bad ISIS is, but what makes him different from the rest of the world leaders who denounced ISIS is that this is coming from a Pope, {a rather soft-spoken and humble one at that} who you would think would be against war in general.

For some reason, it seems like ISIS is basically Dr. Manhattan without the well-intentions, uniting much of the world against a person or group and doing everything in their power to stop them, or at least denouncing them as evil. Hell, the Iranians hate them just as much as we do, and we've been hating them for decades, which really makes the enemies of our enemies our friends. {though friends is stretching it pretty far}

Sad to see that you are blatantly ignorant as always, but I'll play around with you this time.

Texas by itself has one the biggest economies in the world by GDP (ahead of countries like South Korea, Netherlands and Brazil to name a few) thanks to a very diverse array of companies who are headquartered there from electronics, oil/energy, medical research and even manufacturing. Losing Texas means that America would lose a huge chunk of their economy in which it can't fully recover from. It would be even worse for Texas, as they would suffer even bigger losses, losing out on federal tax money, tourism dollars and having to get everything that a country needs would not be worth it at all.

As for all of the rumblings of independence from America, that's nothing more than glorified saber-rattling by fringe groups with nothing better to do. I've lived there for over a decade, and most people hardly care about this at all, even with numerous petitions that they sent saying that Texas wants to split from the Union. In other words, they're being mostly facetious and only do it just to stick it to Obama or to most Democratic presidents in recent decades.

You haven't made a convincing argument at all besides the usual pointing the finger at the Ukraian government for doing what they're supposed to be doing, which no one is buying. To be fair, it was about the Cleveland Browns, (who have been underdogs for the most part since the early 60's) basically showing how a "winning" team is built. Of course, it is the Browns, which means it's a foregone conclusion that they'll lose and lose often.

The only football movie that I enjoyed was The Longest Yard, which more or less parodied a lot of the typical cliches and story lines that normally goes into the average sports movie. I wouldn't put it above Bull Durham (which subverted a lot of sports movie cliches) or Field of Dreams (which was more about the people instead of the game itself) though, both of which are baseball movies.

Yes, but unlike Europe, African civilizations who went to war with each other cannabialized themselves (metaphorically) and stood no chance against European forces in the 1600's. Also, the Iron Age was about 1000 BC to the rise of Rome, which isn't really saying very much. Considering that African civilization was was still stuck in that time period when the Portugal, Britian and others got there, you can't say that they were that innovative. Remember that they also had no firearms of their own at that time, when others like China, Japan (via Portugal) and even Native Americans either had guns/gunpowder or a means to get those guns, and they were, at least economically, just as bad as they were.

I think you're giving Africa way too much credit here, even with the civilizations that they had, they still were pretty primitive.

Europe did play a part in making Africa what it is, but not wholly.

Africa wasn't exactly a great place before the Europeans colonized the place. True, Africa is relatively rich of natural resources and farmable land, but a mix of tribal warfare, no concrete sense of civilization beyond a few countries (Ethiopia, Egypt) and very little incentive for technological innovation pretty much doomed them before the Europeans got there.

Probably why Africa is known for being the lower intestine of the world, it was and still is full of shit. It doesn't help that those people either try to improve their situation but fail, or just simply destroy just because they can.

Makes me wonder why do they just not shoot them, they are wantonly going around spreading the Ebola virus by raiding and "liberating" quarantine zones thinking that modern medicine is the cause of the virus. I think it's safe to say that central Africa is a lost cause that isn't Kenya or maybe Tanzania, and sad to say, but they were better off when they were under British or French rule of the late 1800's than it is today.
