The fact that the OP acts like a prepubescent little twat means that we should ignore what he says, because how can we take you seriously when you have the gaul to insult our intellegience like that? Right or wrong, there is a certain amount of decorum when it comes to public issues, (which isn't very high) and if you couldn't manage that, then stop wasting our time posting belittling garbage towards us.

Considering that the OP didn't explain anything, I'll try to put it into some context here. {I really shouldn't be doing this, but whatever}

Ben Carson, a neurosurgeon and a likely candidate for 2016 for the Republican party states that the 2016 elections might not happen because Obama is going to declare martial law over things like ISIS, Ebola and government spending to name a few. The question is does anyone think that Carson is serious, or is this just another smoke and mirrors trick to rile up his potential voter base?

My money is going to be on the latter. There has been far worse situations many times over in the past, and I don't really recall any President enacting martial law that wasn't during wartime or in an armed rebellion, so where's the fire so to speak? Not saying it isn't possible, but is highly unlikely and not something we should take any serious stock into.

I don't ever seem to remember a Call of Duty game being incomplete at launch, and the DLC that they have are nothing more than map packs, weapons and sometimes a game mode. It's not like they're selling the whole campaign on DLC, much less the multiplayer that's already on there, so this is really no harm no foul by them.

If anything, they're the standard on how DLC should be done, adding optional features into the game itself {such as maps, weapons, etc.} instead of on-disc DLC, which everyone hates.

Response to: The gamer Stereotype. Posted 1 day ago in Video Games

Really, I haven't experienced any sort of gaming stigma at all, and to be honest, said stigma is largely manufactured from both the media and the ignorant. The fact that there are a lot of genres available that aren't necessarily targeted towards a "nerd" audience proves this, at least in recent years.

Any sort of gamer stereotypes nowadays largely comes from the inside, particularly with console vs. PC and AAA vs. indie gamers. It doesn't help that gaming journalism is about as toxic as it gets with all of the biases and lack of quality control associated with it.

Response to: The most beutiful anime *sob* Posted 2 days ago in General

If I had to describe Evangelion in one word, it would be complicated. I get all of the philosophical/psychological themes of the series, (contrived as they may be) but looking deeper into it, it's pretty flawed and in some respects, gets away with more than it really should have, especially when it comes to the ending. Eva also might be one of the very few cases where I'm honestly nihilistic towards the cast as a whole, to give some of them a quick death would be more than sufficient to end their suffering, while others like Gendo and SEELE deserves to burn in Hell, and that might be too good for them for the shit they pull off.

Another word I would use is ironic, particularly with the two female pilots Rei and Asuka. What Anno was trying to do with these two was to deconstruct the character archetypes and see how they will break, but to his surprise, (and possible horror) they became highly popular and had those two on everything from posters to figures and love pillows, though that may had to do with Gainax being marketing whores to stay afloat. Not to mention, the numerous amounts of Rei and Asuka clones in anime since pretty much defeated Anno's orginial intentions for them. (Hell, Laura Bodewig from Infinite Stratos is a Rei and Asuka clone all in one, for a time anyway.) At the very least, the Rebulid series has the self-awareness to acknowledge that fact with Mari Illustrious and Asuka's new plug suit.

Ultimately, Evangelion is a classic through and through, but it's far from perfect and has essentially taken the piss out of themselves ever since EoE. Also, when comparing it to other grimdark anime or other mediums, (Berserk, Mazinger Z,Warhammer 40k) it just feels rather quaint by comparison, and without a conclusive ending, opened itself up with many re-tellings and serveral questionable retcons, though it may have been for the best.

Once upon a time, NG was a virtual haven {or at least one of} for scat humor, hentai and offensive joke up the wazoo, which was great and all, but at the same time, that overshadowed a lot of artists who made excellent flash movies and games. There's no one reason why NG changed over the years, but for the most part it has been a lot better now than it was then, considering that it no longer had to rely on porno sites for ad revenue which popped up every time you went on NG, for example.

I'm kind of disappointed that a lot of the adult flashes went away with some exceptions, {though to be fair, they were pretty much either ripped off or were simple slideshows} but I guess they figured that there was no sense in piggybacking off that any longer than necessary, {especially when more talented artists took over the portal} which leads us to what we have today. Ultimately, NG is a business, and they have to do what is necessary to keep NG running, and the only ones who seem to find fault in that are either the nostalgia whores or pervert teens who can't get past the parental controls.

Escort missions, especially when the AI has the survival instincts of a suicidal teenager and the intelligence of one to boot. It's no fun to keep repeating the same missions over and over again because of this.

Dialogue heavy cut scenes is also rather bothersome to deal with. In some cases, I understand why they do this to fill in the gaps in the story, but at the same time, it slows down the pacing of play making it a chore to get through all that, and it doesn't help if they have bad voice acting.

Games that are fundamentally broken and essentially punish you if you make even a slight mistake. A challenge is one thing, I don't mind that, but difficulty because of bad design is something I have little tolerance towards, Ninja Gaiden and Demon's Souls are guilty of this. Atlus has always been known for making difficult games in general, but unlike the rest of them which were fundamentally sound and didn't skimp on the basics, DS was them simply showing off and getting away with more than they really should have. If we're all being honest here, if DS was released in any other generation, they would be raked through the coals for its fundamental flaws and near-broken gameplay.

Here's one that I would suggest, if anyone use a news source as a source to a story, (i.e. CNN, RT) make sure that said news source isn't horribly slanted towards one side or another in a political spectrum, nor are they horrendous biased to the point where you can't take it seriously, essentially making it a glorified OP/ED piece. While sites like CNN aren't without their biases, they are a far more reliable news source than less reputable news networks like Russia Today or Fox News. If nothing else, cross referencing news sites on a certain event is better than nothing.

Honestly, that is a rather dumb idea largely because you're using the same logic as the anti-video game crowd. If it isn't obviously noted before, violent video games don't lead to real life violence, and if anything most games in recent memory has tried to state how bad violence is, whether it's criminal or in war.

Also, some of the most popular games today aren't even violent at all, such as Angry Birds, Minecraft or even Journey, so that doesn't necessarily hold much water.

a lot of the games out there are "Shoot this, kill that, Woman is scantily clad, Big buff guy with a big gun" same crap over and over

Uh, not all of them. While no one can deny that stuff like this exists in gaming, it's not as commonplace as everyone thinks it is, not when you have things like create-a-character. (Mass Effect, Saints Row)

I think the great powers that be should join forces. Have one system and offer all the games and have a good price tag on it. Have games that are kid friendly, Have some new interesting travel games free from violence and lurid sex for older women and men to play.

First off, the gaming powers aren't going to team up anytime soon, cannabializing themselves into gaming Communism isn't going to work and only punishes gamers when there is only a single major system available, Second, there are plenty of kid-friendly games out there, and that's not including the obvious like Minecraft, sports games or most old-school collections. They may not be as heavily advertised as Call of Duty, but they're there.

You kind of sound like one of those soccermoms that complain about video game violence, and how that leads into a life of violence and misgynogy. They do exist in video games, but they aren't that huge, glaring problems that float around gaming.

And get rid of sports games. How pointless. "I like sports, and I'd like to play them, but I don't want to go outside to play them." Don't these MLB, NFL and NBA people have enough money?

I despise this argument because you're ignoring a lot of factors that go into this. The most important thing is that these yearly sports games are there for a reason, because sports fans enjoy them and the leagues aren't going to jeopardize their audience because of the unathletic bellyachers who have nothing better to do than complain. Also, the "not wanting to play" argument doesn't hold any weight because there are a lot of legitimate reasons why they don't play outside. The stereotypical strawman isn't going to work here.

Above all, you simply come off as naive and misinformed, and you really have nothing to base all of this on other than petty morality.

Frankly, they should considering that they sunk so much money into this project, it would be a waste just to entirely scrap it. I understand why movie theaters would react the way they did because no one wants a massacre in their own theater, and standard operating procedure is to err on the side of caution, but having said that, it's nothing more than empty threats, because I highly doubt that there are any serious North Korean symphasizers out there who'll kill or maim folks just because of a movie.

Frankly, I have a feeling that this will blow over eventually once the movie comes out, controversy tends to attract folks to a person or product.

I don't want to be a broken record, but Nintendo is already in a hole made by their own decisions in recent years and no amount of spin isn't going to change that. Frankly, we should've known about this when Nintendo burnt bridges with major developers with the Wii U, leaving only the Nintendo fans and the occasional curious gamer with plenty of disposable income.

Response to: How can we fix the gaming industry? Posted 11 days ago in Video Games

Ok, I'm honestly getting tired of these kind of questions on the industry because they really don't need much fixing, after all, they are a multi-billion dollar industry under realitively stable ground. Now, some reform in policy for game makers of all levels is needed, (Ubisoft and their trailer debacle, DRM) but I don't think these are necessarily massive overhauls.

As for the consumer, we need to stop crying wolf and say that "gaming is dying" when it really isn't, just because they are going in a different direction. This is essentially the time in a console generation where there are going to be some growing pains involved, (just like every other generation since the NES) and it turned out pretty well before. Yes, there are going to be caveman gamers who will decry the usual spiel that "modern mainstream gaming is bad" and "artsy games over professionally designed games", but in the former case, that ship has left port a long time ago and for the better, and the latter, realize that video games are supposed to be entertainment first and art second, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Response to: The Interview and freedom of speach Posted 12 days ago in Politics

Other than the usual political tough talk from North Korea, I don't see why Sony or the movie theaters should bend over the way they did over an empty threat made by North Korea over a film that isn't going to be released there anyway. Plus, since when did real-life dictators portrayed in a movie that they'll never release anyway have the right to act all pissy about it? IIRC, the South Park movie shows Saddam being tossed into hell by Satan for acting like a total cunt, since when did the leader of the earthly equivalent of Mordor get any sort of reprieve?

I would like to think that multi-national corporations wouldn't fear any sort of reprisal from glorified trolls that come from a country that knows that they can't do shit without getting their asses handed to them by the rest of the world.

Compared to what it was a few years ago where CN had tons of live-action shows and Adult Swim was following suit as well, (though they were a separate entity, but still) it has made a lot of strides in the positive direction. Bringing back Toonami was probably considered a turning point, considering that anime now has their own space and isn't being marginalized. At 12/16/14 08:08 PM, FurryGod wrote: The older games are definitely more difficult. I feel they definitely had more soul.

You know I hear this a lot, but it doesn't seem to ring a bell with me. Whether out of convenience or ignorance, people seem to forget that games were difficult back then largely because most of the developers had little experience in making games and considering that most of those games were shorter than they are today, this was one of the ways that they could pad the content to make it longer than it really was. If they tried to pull this off today, I guarantee you that it would be raked through the coals.

The thing is a lot of companies sold to big corporations, so that's one reason games went downhill.

Uh, that has existed since the 70's, and in fact, almost all major developers are either part of corporations or are corporations themselves, so that doesn't make any sense. Also, the quality of games have largely went up in subsequent generations, and has stayed in a similar standard since the beginnings of the previous generation. Frankly, that is just a cop out argument, and not a good one at that.

Rareware is a good example of this, their classic games are my favorite. They sold to Microsoft and now it's turned to pure shit. I don't blame Rare, maybe they just got sick of making games.

Okay, that's one out of many developers, not to mention that like most VG compaines, they have a high turnover rate of their workforce from game to game. I haven't really heard of a long-running development team that hasn't made a bad game or two in their existence.

But when someone starts praising the remakes like DKC and KI, I seriously want to punch them in the face. I've played the remakes just to confirm my assumptions, and they are not the same at all, just another modern crap game.

The KI remake isn't half bad, though it was a bit lacking, largely because it was a launch title. I kind of detected this, but you assume that a remake is bad and you didn't really explain why other than it was a modern game, some sort of context really does help here.

Anyway I think Game Devs just want to make games generally, they don't really care about making amazing games, they just like games.

So, in other words you're stating the obvious? Plus, the consideration on what is a great game is all subjective in the end, and even the most liked game are going to have their haters.
