So because of an isolated incident, all cops are criminals?

If a business was involved in something like this, every other business in the same field would capitalise to run them down on PR and sales. People are deathly afraid of privatising police, but maybe that might get some more accountability for them, as departments would cease sticking up for one another.

Anyway gawker of all places has a pretty good post on this.
The very way they are trained to handle these situations is flawed from the getgo, and encourages confrontation and escalation. Why are they trained to rush up in your face and start shouting, thus activating a random civilian's fight-or-flight response? Why do they not use proper fire control? Why do they keep their hands to their belt at all time? Why would they engage children with guns drawn? So much why why why over and over. Shit be completely busted yo. And it's completely intentional to control 'the walking mealticket civvies' with fear and suspicion.

Germany has had 109 fatal shootings since 1998, a vast majority are mental illness related and not race or crime related. Adjusted for population that still puts them at approx well below 50% less than the US. Training the police to treat every single situation as a suspected terrorist attack or suspected drug deal is what causes so much of this mess.

Also Carlos in Saints Row 2, though it was the best choice since he was dragged for miles by a car and couldn't even talk he was so battered. At least you didn't actually kill him, it was done by your character in a cutscene.

I always felt bad for killing the Ronin actually, because the storyline is set in stone. I wish you could have a respect meter towards other gangs ala the PS1 GTAs, as opposed to your own. All their talk on the street is bitching about what crappy leaders the Akujis are makes you feel like there should have been some missions where you positively take over sections of their gang territory through negotiation or bribery or special pro-ronin missions vs the other two gangs. Then during the Ultor missions not only would you have Saints but converted Ronin fighting against their former 'masters.'

And also Maero was an arse but you should have been able to negotiate a settlement with him, especially if you take out one or both of the other gangs first. I didn't feel bad about killing him, per se, but rather that it had to happen at all, rather than you getting really strong and bringing him officially into the Saints with the Brotherhood.
Also I didn't like there wasn't a way to activate the ronin trap out-of-cutscene and save Aisha, instead you have to walk into it like a dumbass, she screams, and gets her head cut off. And it's such a waste considering you just (likely) had to shoot down a helicopter with small arms meaning her sacrifice was worthless. You could have walked through those swords and punched the ronins' lights out while Gat challenges their enforcer guy (forget his name) to 1 on 1, badass as you are. Once you're finished punching them, then Gat gets cut down like normal, you fight him off, and then take Gat to the hospital along with Aisha. Would have made a lot more sense.

That series is one of my favourites. And they could go the Metal Gear Solid route, have the older ones (1, 2, GBA, the volleyball one) unlockable on the disc.

Anyway if any of you have seen the anime Record of Lodoss War, the black dragon Narse appears in the Dreamcast game. He's sickly and wounded from his battle during the series with Mison and wants you to recover the equipment of his champion, spread through 4 different temples, then come back wearing them and kill him in a last glorious fight. Now it is optional, but the game sort of pushes it upon you. He would rly rly like this as a final favour of you because he recognises how powerful you are and how great a final battle it will be. He is specifically asking Slayn to contact you for this purpose. Now he might be sickly, but he's still a dragon so he'll kick your ass if you stand still, but when you finally kill him he topples over in a depressing fashion, like a lame horse that was just shot in the head by its rider. It was hard to wear the full suit again after that, bonuses be damned.

Also I hate killing FROGs in MGS4, and I hate that you can't knock out your buddies and tranq them all yourself in those two areas you have help. Not cuz they're chicks but because based upon how merciless Ocelot was in Liquid mode, and how the B&B corps was formed, you can pretty much guess how their unit came to be. I wanted to have an option to do those areas solo with the shotgun stun pellets, flashbombs, and the tranq pistol and keep them around, and I would kill one of my team and have to continue whenever one of them got dickish and shot them after they were tranqed. XD
Those damned triggerhappy loons, especially the dude with the exclamation point mohawk. You would think Meryl would have been sympathetic at least, since she had to put up with a variety of implied bad scenarios with Ocelot.

Response to: Can't hold all these video games Posted November 17th, 2011 in Video Games

I don't really have one, aside from grindy ones like the Disgaea series which I think I will never fully complete as I lose more and more interest each time. Ever since the Turbo-16 days I've blown past everything I got pretty fast, and actually 100%'d maybe 3/4ths of them. The only reason it takes me so godawful long with most flash games is I've never been comfortable with a keyboard as a gaming device outside of roguelikes.

Probably the most ridiculous one I 100%'d was Starflight and Starflight2, I COMPLETELY mined out /captured critters from every land-able planet in the entire game over the course of a few months. Basically I divided time between emulated and actual puzzle/rpg/strategy games on my PSP (especially strategy games because I could strip mine one planet per opponent turn) and then while it was loading/saving whatever I would drive home to sell all my loot. Let this sink in. I strip-mined the ENTIRE milky way galaxy in under a single season. And went to the sequel to do it again. Capitalism, HO!! The Cybran and Ferengi would be proud. I also did that in Star Control 2 but it isn't as crazy an accomplishment because planets have very limited resources each. You can do as many as 3 systems at a time because you have so much space. But in starflight a planet with a mineral rating of 100 drops a mere 30-40 points per trip. Why did I do this? I have no real reason. I can't really explain it. I guess just the masochistic challenge.
I have done the same with games like Medieval: Total War, first conquering the world as one of the weakest nations, say the Geonese (big money no troops), and then starting a new game, conquering a full modern country's worth like making spain+portugal one supercountry, then swapping over and playing the rebels.
Most of the big-release modern games hold no appeal for me past Infamous and Prototype which are pure fun, the rest simply have no challenge whatsoever, even when I try to force my own challenges! Single day rentals the lot of them!

Also I really like Recettear which is a bit of a guilty pleasure thing. I've gotten into the hundreds on hardcore survival, banking on average 2.5mil per day.

Although I am going to have an immense backlog from all the ps2/GC games I missed come next wekk....good ol' Black Friday Right now it's only a couple longer sandboxRPG/strategy ones, like Daisenkyuu Exceed and New Vegas.

Regenerating health is a new addition to any Bethesda game and not one that many people want to see. Although there were options in other Bethesda RPG's that allowed you to regenerate health through perks or items, never has it been automatically included.

Health will NOT regenerate during combat; however it will regenerate when outside of combat and it's fairly slow. Keep in mind that Oblivion allowed you to heal fully simply by waiting for any amount of time in a place that wasn't near enemies or you could simply spam healing spells. I personally hope that they take away the auto-heal by waiting if they're including regenerative health.

Pro's:
Less downtime between fights.
Less spamming of healing spells to heal.
More convenient than waiting in a corner.

Con's:
Dumbing down - making more accessible?
Easier?
Less realistic?

YOUR THOUGHTS?

Actually, regenerating health isn't really easier if it happens outside of combat. They could even have a little 'bandaging yourself' animation for it. Likewise not really dumbing down, actually if handled right it subtly INCREASES difficulty by lulling the player into a false sense of security. Sit in a cubbyhole waiting for yourself to heal because your cheap @$$ didn't want to overbuy on potions and you only want to use them for the vampire at the end of the dungeon. And then you get sniped by a lich's spell.
What I hope they get rid of is scaling monsters. Scaling monsters are stupid and really only making any sense in roguelikes, which are supposed to be balls-out hard (like that beginner dungeon in ADOM)

anyway, lethal injections also suck because you know they're lethal. Imagine being bitten by a rattler while strapped prone. Even though you don't feel as much pain as with snake venom, mentally you're beating yourself up, trying to keep track of where the fluid is going, trying to fight back against all odds and purify yourself using your own willpower. I'd say that's gotta suck a lot more than "Ow! Lots of pointy things just hit me. Welp, I'm done."
I don't know about this, but wouldn't this also fuck up perfectly usable organs? Least firing squad only take out one or two, maybe even zero if you have a well trained group.
Please also nobody post about oxygen masks or suffucating by inhaling 'pleasant' chemicals. Halting one's breathing leads to effects similar to drowning or choking almost all the freakin' time. Internally, pretty nasty. (the lack of reaction from the body perishing from an OD is from the brain or heart taking most of the assault first while the person is still conscious and enjoying it.)

You know how you can tell who has and who hasn't ever left American soil? When they say something like this.

I've always been amazed at the people calling to ban Mein Kampf overlook things like Dianetics. Hubbard, Cruise, Travola, and Elfman are all friggin' loony maniacs, and the only thing keeping their precious book around is the fact no one has been (verifiably) killed by Scientology. In some ways it is actually the worse of the two books as adherents believe most scientifically proven maladies (even some biggies like AIDS) are all in the sufferer's head and curable through quarantine and solitude.
If you have to join a cult about aliens, good god why did everyone join THAT one? Raelians are lots more sane. I think deep down, everyone is wired to search out power and conflict to some degree, which is why peaceable religions never take off, they're a minority that have over-ridden our innate programming either through force of will or luck of mental deformity. (note that the previous paragraph has been written supposing Hubbard took it seriously. It's entirely possible he could be another Alestair Crowley.)

Also: Stalin killed many more Jews but some of them actually like him. What's up with that? That's a topic for another day (and more knowledgable people than I), but a little food for thought there.

Speed.
Nerve Damage. (Why the guillotine failed right here.)
Mess. (The messier it is the more likely parts 1 and 2 were addressed.)

The speediest way inflicting the most amount of central nervous system damage in the messiest way possible? Bigass stone block to the head. I'm serious. That would beat lethal injection any day, if you use something like an aircraft catapult to launch it, it may even be too fast for the condemned's mind to contemplate the pain. Bullets are #2, simply for the fact it IS possible to screw up shooting someone in the head, as many have survived it, and even more have been back on their feet before the smoke cleared. Killing simply for money and religion are way worse than territorial wars and their reprisals, just because it takes on positive qualities over time and with enough preaching, while military conquest is usually a result of a necessity that unfortunately has the possibility of spinning out of control.
