Inventors Inhibition: a scientist on the verge of a breakthrough device is shortchanged by bad luck

I'm intending this story to be used for a flash game, that I will probably develop, and I'll tell you my spin on the conceit:

You have no more colleagues to turn to, and you have delved into a realm of science that no one dares to trudge, except you, Professor Honeycutt. Tinkering in your basement lab for days at a time without eating or sleeping has taken a toll on your mind, so be very weary, because what you're able to control has been dwindling. The drive to complete your mechanism will not subside until success has been achieved.

If anyone has any alternative narratives to this one, or edits to my existing one, I'm completely open to the idea.
I also have some gameplay ideas for my narrative, but I still would like to hear others opinions about detail or even changing the whole thing.

Thanks guys.
