Thought I'd jump in here and clarify something. I've heard a LOT of people on all sides of the issue misusing the term "assault rifle." This term has a very specific meaning. It does not mean any rifle that looks military, or any rifle that has a high capacity magazine. It specifically means a weapon designed to be fired from the shoulder, which is capable of firing BOTH semi-automatically, AND fully automatically, at the selection of the operator. Hence, as FlattusMaximus pointed out, all assault rifles are illegal in America (unless you have a federal Class III weapons permit.) Anyone who says they want to ban assault rifles obviously doesn't know what they're talking about because they're already illegal.
I just want to take a moment to say that, no matter what you think of the current situation, if you think we should go to war or not, remember that our troops are true heroes either way. During the Vietnam War, the American people treated our troops very badly just because they felt the war was unjust. Let's not have that happen again. Remember, they don't have a choice, in fact, they volunteered to give up that freedom of choice so that they could stand ready to defend your freedom and mine. Whatever your opinion of the Iraq war, please, don't take it out on our brave soldiers. Let's do what we can to let our men and women in uniform know that we love them either way.
Let's have a round of applause for our soldiers!
