There are some features I do believe ableton live lacks, but you cannot absolutely say anything bad about it crashing. Even if it occurs, you don't lose a single byte of changes you have done inside your project. ever.

Ableton Live? Tried it once, crashed on a simple 4x4 beat, no thanks.
What? You can say what you want about ableton, but nothing will make you lose your project in it. NOTHING!
While it's true that it might crash sometimes (as with any sequencer) but the recover utility from undo data is incredible. I've never lost a single project from it!
What's wrong with using loops? Unless your composition is 100% made out of loops, I don't see the issue...
Of course neither Symphobia nor any other all-in-one package would give you the ultimate symphonic sound palette. But among the a-bit-of-everything packages I find it the most complete and well-sounding.
If you want exceptional sounding strings you will have to search for specific libraries like Audiobro L.A. Scoring Strings. But then you will get "only" strings.

Don't know about MOR but I do agree EWQL does make awesome stuff. I never said the opposite. It's just that I find the samples in Symphonic Orchestra (especially strings) uninspiring to say the least. And for some odd reason, most of the samples have A LOT of noise you have to cut out or at least reduce if you are going to write solo parts.

You can buy programs like LA Scoring Strings or Hollywood Strings which are more in depth for just strings. But for a program that offers an entire orchestra in a box its amazing.
EastWest Quantum Leap Symphonic Orchestra which has been recommended to me by someone, anyone have experience with it?
Word of advice: don't get EWQLSO. You will probably regret it, maybe not immediately, but soon enough. I personally find most of the sounds uninspiring and you'll have to eq a lot to obtain fairly decent results.
If you want an all-in-one package, my recommendation would be Symphobia.
Maybe it would take 8 seconds for you, but maybe it didn't take 8 seconds for him.
I don't know you guys, but I'd really love to receive some info on where I could get my hands on to improve my audio works.. especially if I'm completely new to this.
..And if the audio really is that bad you won't find it in any flash submission/game anywa, since the flash artists surely can find something more valuable on the audio portal.
In your first post you mention that your sub-bass is only made of a sine-wave with a low-pass filter.
The filter "cuts off" frequencies from an audio signal. If the signal is composed of only 1 frequency (like a pure sine) then the lp filter will only reduce it's volume, since there are no other frequencies to cut other than the fundamental.
unless you add resonance or distortion, there's no real purpose to keep that filter active.

The sidechaining on the sub really helps alot, it definitely makes the kick stand out and improves the overall sound. And I drastically reduced the impact of the low-pass filter on the sub, and its clearly more present in the mix.
What I meant is, you really don't need the lowpass filter. If it's a pure sine and the filter has no resonance, it will just reduce the volume amount of your bass.
You can obtain the same result by reducing the volume in your sub-bass channel.
May I ask you, what's the point of that low-pass filter? Unless you have some resonance, there appears to be no real point...

what's the big difference from kontakt 3.5, other than the vsl demo samples?
There's also the possibility that komplete 7 is around the corner, just like they did with the last year's promotion that occurred about the same period.
So, I guess many of you know of the recent NI promotion, 50% discount to upgrade from komplete 2 through 5.
I want to know if any of you own kontakt 4 and/or absynth 5. Is it worth upgrading from komplete 5 to 6 just to get those 2?
I know also guitar rig 4 comes with it, but I'm n ot a particular fan of it. Nothing personal but I find the sound just... poor.

Sorry! I won't do that again, I promise.
So I guess you own the good ol roland stuff like sh-101, juno-60 and/or a good drum machine like the legendary tr-808

My girlfriend called me up all hysterical as i was leaving work and managed to convey to me that the house had been broken into. My mind immediately jumped to my studio. Most people here will know I'm a gear whore, but for those who don't, let's just say I have alot of items which would be attractive to your would be thief.
Not to mention our collection of vintage consoles, hd tv, multitude of computers, and jewelry.
Fucking dicks took the PS3. That's it. They even left Tomb Raider behind, but to their credit, it was a pretty shit game.
Renters insurance here i come!!!
What? That's it?
You're one lucky Son. :-)
Just for curiosity, what kind of gear you own? Are we talking about the precious rare vintage stuff here?
also this has nothing to do with the library itself, but the usb dongle protection is crap.
I have like 5-6 usb ports occupied by various dongles just to load a template.
of course if the dongle breaks you can just kiss your libraries goodbye, unless the company is willing to give you another key. Luckily eastwest's support is one of the best out there and will surely help you out with that :-)

Because he obviously didn't want it. Symphobia is great, I've heard and seen it in action and recommend it to everyone who is new to composing audio. But I do the same with EastWest gear as well. It's all based on what someone is more comfortable with. Personally I like the EW Play Engine far more than Kontkat 4, which is what Symphobia uses. It's all about personal opinion and comfort with different products.
why oh why didn't u get symphobia instead ? it's about the same price!!!
Kontak4 is the most advanced sampler out there. Rock solid stable on both mac and pc.
You can automate every single thing in kontakt which is not possible on play. This alone is a great plus. Then regarding the samples quality, well, let's just say that symphobia is a newer libray. EWQLSOP+ samples are old. like VERY old. There are tons of libraries that sound much freshier. Symphobia is quite old as well, but just not as old and also the samples sound richier.
I don't know how to explain it, I use both but I tend to use ewqlsop+ less and less because I find it not so inspiring compared to the other libraries I have.
It requires a lot of eq, automations etc to make the samples sound any good. With other libraries most of the time you bash some keys and you can feel the orchestra coming out of the speakers. While symphobia may not be the best library out there, in my opinion it IS the best all-in-one library out there up-to-date. Just the "big" patches alone (full strings, full orchestra patches) should convince you to buy symphobia over ewqlsop+
I'm not a project sam advertiser so I do not gain anything in saying this :-) just sharing my personal experiences with both libraries.

if you need reason refills you might want to try the music store next to your house.
Not sure what you mean by "if I purchase something I found with google" if you find something to download with google it's either free or pirated. you won't find "free download" samples for purchase on any serious online store.
it's similiar to the audio advertisement thread.
I'm relatively new to newgrounds but as far as I can tell, a thread like this will never see any success. Judging how things are going on the audio advertisement thread, people will just bomb this thread with their songs after randomly rating the above songs.
If you're building your orchestral sound palette from scratch, I suggest you give symphobia a try. It covers pretty much every aspect of an orchestra an also some nice efx.
Not to mention it is powered by native instrument's top class sampler, kontakt.
I use it fairly regularly, although it is missing some important aspects of a sequencer, like a score editor.
Also, as far as I know, it has little to none audio editing capabilities. And it's unable to export audio in a different format than wave.
To my surprise, it does let you make an audio/video file, unlike cubase.

do you use reason as your primary sequencer?
I'd really like to see if any one here uses Digital Performer, I heard the score editor there is great and also other interesting features that might convince me to switch from cubase to DP
Anyone?
Cubase 5
Pros: good average sequencer, great for doing almost anything you want
Cons: lack of built-in plug-ins and a decent score editing tool, the one provided is just terrible
Live 8
Pros: very quick for most things, love the drag n' drop feel of the workflow in there, but
Cons: lacks audio editing capabilities, and the built in plug-ins are unusable. I dare you try the reverb or the vocoder provided. Also, no score editor???
ahh yes, eric prydz I really like how fantastic his production sound, despite being harmonically poor like most of the electronic music tracks, the final result is really astounding. His stuff always sounds great!
One of my favourite productions by him is the very old http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_NrcQ-HET -g
damn those sounds in there are crazy...

Just sayin.
Just to give me an idea, how much would you require to make an animated video and what the final result will look like (style of art/animation)?
I know that the payment is pretty low but we are on a tight budget at the moment.
we can't honestly go for more than 500$ - 800$ for a very good video
Consider this: we're going to promote the video through websites and (local) television, your name could get some attention by this since you will retain full credits for making the video
If the video goes well we also might settle up for future commissions.
Think of this more like an opportunity to gain some attention on your work.
200-350 $ for the job or more, depending on the final result. Payment at finished job.
We're looking for an artist/animator to make an animated music video for a track
