Just as Max put it. There are many Majors out there where animating is a Topic but other focuses that will give you a wider range. I go to ITT-Tech for Software Development Technologies. We touched on Design, Database design. Then Mostly programming. Animation is mostly a Hobby. The amazing animators normally make there money from getting a different degree and just throwing there animation's in there portfolio.

But do not let anyone discourage you. If you want to big a big time animator for Games/Movies/Commercials/ etc. Do not let us or anyone tell you not to. If you get your degree and become good enough you will get where you want to be.

Just small time flash animating is a hard career to get considering most Web Designers know flash inside and out. (Along with other programs)

Good Luck

Since You posted it here, I am just going to say. What an amazing Animation. Very nice style. Very smooth. This animation actually had emotion. I felt this animation made me feel something for the character. I felt something for the girl at the end. Very Nice job. 5 Stars!

Response to: Adobe Flash Cs6 - Smooth Animation? Posted January 9th, 2013 in Animation

There are many different ways to animate it is hard to just answer this question simply. Check online for Flash tutorials. THey are all over the place. Youtube has some good ones. cartoonsmart.com is a very good place for tutorials from the basics to advanced. Tutorialized and most of all google exactly what kind of tutorial you are looking for.

My personal opinion 60 FPS (Frames Per Second) is way to high for flash animations. I normally animate anywhere between 20 to 25 FPS. the slower you want something to move the more frames you are going to want to use between point A and Point be. If your animation is really jumpy, chances are you do not have enough frames.

For Example if you are animating someone jumping you do not want just Frame 1: the guy standing, Frame 2: The guy crouched down Frame 3: the guy in the air. If making a person jumping those three frames would not be enough and make the animation more choppy. You would want several frames in between the 3 main body positions. You would want a few frames crouching and a few frames raising. If you were animating a FBF animation You would need a boatload of frames.

This is actually a hard question to answer without picture examples. Also there are different types of animation techniques that would require a different answer. The two major types being FBF (Frame by Frame) & Tweening. Both having there ups & Downs. Also do not half has something crappy and submit it to the portal. Nobody likes watching videos like that. Take your time on a project. Even if you are new to animating; If you take your time on a project it will still turn out a lot better than if you rush through something just so you can post it.

Long story short just look for free tutorials all over the place to best answer a question such as yours. Figure out wich technique and style best suits you, take your time and take pride in your work. If you post a half assed animation. You will be looked at as a half ass animator. Relax, take your time and learn. You will be so happy with how much stuff you can create in flash.

Sorry for the book I just wrote. And GOOD LUCK.

Hey thank you very much. I cant wait to see your tutorials. I have always had what I think to be a really good style (on Paper) that I want so badly to convert to the computer. I am not the best artist. But the cartoons/Scenes I start with on paper I feel will be really nice for the animations I am trying to make. But every time I traced/drew it on the computer it wouldn't be the same. Ive been working with Flash For years. Since 8th grade. I graduated high school in 09 so that's a long time. I just do not like submit crappy work. or moderate work so I never did, or finished half the projects.

I have a few good ideas right now both comic and action I am trying to start. I am just having a hard time getting started. I draw these characters with shading and style now. then try to find a way to animate them I am having problems. With the line tool it was easy just drag all the corners lol. Just looking for something that would set the light bulb off in my brain and get started.

But I can not wait for your tutorials. They sound very interesting even if its just re-learning old stuff. I am just hoping maybe someone could show me how they do it. I am not trying to steal someones style or doing something that has already been done 100 times. Just looking for maybe like a mentor someone to show/explain how there animating process works. So maybe I have a place to start. Maybe use some there tricks maybe not. The brush tool is a HUGE difference in how to use flash, then the line tool.

Maybe something like "How someone builds there own characters and how they start/ go about starting to animate them"

Thank You guys very Much

p.s - I like the story behind that short very much. I just do not want to do it half ass. I am waiting until I am ready to tackle it. Like how the movie "Avatar" was waiting for the right technology. wow I do not use forums much and did not realize how much of a monologue person I am. congrats to who ever reads my rambling on lol

"Thanks Again"

Hey, Sorry if this is in the wrong spot. I am not new to Newgrounds but I am new to the fourm. I am not new to animating but I had a problem completing cartoons because I did not like the style and many various reasons. I spent a lot of time animating, Designing and Drawing with the Line tool and fills in Flash. My girlfriend got me a Bamboo tablet for X-mas. I got familiar with the brush tool and and pressure and everything like that.

I am curious if anyone out there could help me with some animation techniques with using the brush tool. I just want to know how you do it. What makes it easier. To make objects and animate them with brush. Do you make everything into Symbols? Do you draw & erase everything frame by frame? Maybe point me in the direction of some good tutorials. Anything that could help me get going. I am just hoping to find some pointers. I have been using the line tool so long it feels like I am an old Dog trying to learn a new trick.

Again I apologize if this in the wrong spot.

Here is an example of my line animation. The only thing I ever posted on Newgrounds.

Sound Files? Posted January 26th, 2011 in Audio

I have had flash for awhile, and I am recently starting to ge tback into animating. I am not sure if this question has been asked somehwere else; if it is I apologize. Doeas anyone know where i could get some everyday sound files? for example: (Footsteps, water, farting, noise's such as that.) all i have on my computer from a long time ago are gun noises. I was hoping if there was a place i could easily find such sounds.
Also Is there a better way to record voices to your computer than windows recorder. The quality does not come in the way i would like it to. The quality of that seems a little low.
I am not sure if this has been posted if so I apologize and could you point me in the right direction.
