Yeah, that's why it's so exciting! :D I love steam also but I don't think it should be compared to this at all, I will most likely use both, steam and onlive are totally seperate things. I like the idea of being able to play a game on my gaming PC, then go off to a friend's house or somewhere that may not have a great gaming PC and pick the game up where I left off, instantly!

We know that it works and it has been tested out by many at the GDC so please, don't anyone say it's fake or won't work because it does, at least in a controlled environment, the real test will come this summer when it beta tests across America.

No doubt Microsoft will come up with a very similar product soon that they "didn't steal".

But I'm sure the consumer does like this, every game in one place without having to upgrade your machine, download / install games. Plus you can spectecate your friends, play 2p non-online games with your friends, and play games from all consoles.

Now this is what I want, a single place to play all games without any trouble, and all these extra features are a great bonus.

I completely agree.
And PLEASE stop the poo flinging everyone!

:THEY WERE JUST FOUNDED!!!!

No they weren't, this has been in development for almost a decade. These guys have done lots of work before, they invented quicktime and other web stuff and they're just joining together for a new project, it was just announced, but they weren't just founded. Read the facts before posting please.

Guys! Will you please READ the stuff before you comment about all the latency issues it's going to have. This is not a 'new' technology. It has been in development for almost a decade and it's only just been announced. I doubt it's going to totally change the way games are played, but it's a great alternative to those that want to play games instantly and cheaply without having to upgrade their PCs. The guys working on this were the original developers of lots of things like quicktime, when they said they hardly knew what streaming was. They have completely reinvented video compression and it's going to be instant. There will be NO LAG BETWEEN INPUT AND A RESPONSE.

Here's what IGN think of it when they got their hands on it at GDC, they said it works fine but they just need to see if it works when it goes global. The system WORKS, the only worry now is if it works when it's released worldwide.

http://uk.pc.ign.com/articles/965/965542 p1.html

You guys are right to be sceptical because it sounds like it's impossible, but please don't poo fling and say things without any evidence. Thanks.

If it costs, say, 50$ a month, meaning 600$ yearly, you can buy a pretty good computer which can play current games nicely for that price.

Firstly, it does have latency, of course, but it's so small that humans can't notice it. Obviously it will be thoroughly beta tested etc. and it will just need a plugin for your browser. Also, you can buy the little box if you want to play it on your TV which will cost less than a Wii. As well as being able to play people on PCs of Macs, they won't be restricted to certain consoles. As I said, this won't be for everyone and there will still be the option to buy your consoles and gaming PCs but this provides a nice cheap alternative for those that meet the requirements.

HUGE BANDWITH BILL

Will not exist. The bandwidth will be reasonably small and less than that of a BitTorrent client. 4Mb is said to be the peak needed for HD gaming. Averaging around 2Mb. As for my supposedly 16Mb connection I should have no problem, and neither should most people.

why would it not work with Virgin? I wouldn't say it's the standard either, it's competing with Sky and a few others. Depends if you want DSL, Cable, Fibre Optic and all the rest of it :D

This thing hasn't had a premature death, it's just getting started. If you are skeptical and want a lot of info on this (and you have a lot of time on your hands) check out this gamespot video that's just under an hour long.

http://uk.gamespot.com/shows/on-the-spot /?series=on-the-spot&event=on_the_spot20 090324

It's really quite impressive and although I had my doubts at first, this thing really looks like it's going to work great, they showed it live on stage and it works fine.

They have been working for 7 years developing totally new compression technology to make this work properly, lag won't happen.

Anyway, try to stop poo flinging and just read up on all the info or watch this vid before you slam the idea. I'm just interested to know some points of view.

I'm quite annoyed the beta isn't in the UK though :(

There are a few first party titles coming out, anyway, I'm sure we'll recieve new information soon. They say it's more of an addition or step forward rather than an alternative. But I see what you mean.

Personally, I'm very excited about this. OnLive is essentially streaming games onto your PC / Mac / TV or whatever. Apparently Crysis runs on high, really smoothly on a Macbook air!

The website currently has a countdown on it that suggests something is happening in about 9 hours, not sure what that is, unless it's just the launch of the website.

Here's part 1 of an interview about it.

I'm really excited, all you will need is a fair internet connection. 1.5Mb connection will get you standard quality (Wii) and a 5Mb will get you full HDTV support!

You can allow people to spectate you playing a game, or watch others, and the ability to record the last 15 seconds of your game if something awesome happened. It looks great.

Hi, I want to create a big load of binary (1s and 0s) that randomly change between 1 and 0, is this possible to do with AS2? Or will I need to just type out a load of 1s and 0s and keep changing them, because I really don't want to do that :D

Thanks guys.

A reply! There are signs of life on the horizon after all! :D Can we get an updated parts list or something? People seem to be confused as to what parts are available, including myself :P and I would like to encourage anyone that is working on a part to please hurry up :) but don't rush, don't injure yourself, just work at a leisurely, but productive pace. Go and get a massage if necessary. Think happy thoughts. And post previews. :)

I'm excited about this collab, and would really like to see it finished. I will give y'all an e-muffin when we're done! and if that's not incentive enough, I don't know what is.

1. bars are good, perhaps with numbers in the bars.

2. I don't mind lives, as long as the checkpoints aren't too far away, it can be really frustrating needing to start the whole thing again. Or you could just scrap lives all together :) depends on what type of game you're going for, and the difficulty.

It's not that I don't want you to stay, Kweaks, I do, but I don't think this collab will die. When I saw it advertised I just thought it would be packed full of talented people so I didn't bother looking, but when I was pm'ed about it, I had a look and joined. I say, if we can't fill up the parts, pm lots of animators, perhaps ones that have recently finished a succesful movie, so they will be all geared up for animation :D
