Adding Sound Fx to an Animation. Posted May 21st, 2013 in Animation

Hey guys. I was wondering how you animators add sound effects into your animations. I used to export my animations with no audio other than the voice overs and go into an editor (final cut express 4) and add the sound effects and background tracks there but I realized that final cut express absolutely butchers the video quality of my animations and am having trouble finding an alternative. Do you guys simply throw in all of your sound effects and background tracks into Adobe Flash with your voice overs and animate over them (and isnt this the only working process if you plan to upload a .swf on newgrounds?) or are there any of you who use an editor that is effective in doing so after the animation is complete? Thank you in advance for your help!

Btw, I like the hair's bounce, looks cool. :)

That's a really good point. Ill try and be more consistent with those proportions in the future. Thank you! I appreciate the feedback!

What kind of feedback are you looking for exactly?

Any kind of criticism regarding how fluid the animation looks, how the character moves and such. Basically any kind of improvement you feel i could make.

Response to: Animation Majors? Posted January 13th, 2013 in Animation

Id like to think im the same way. I thought of going to UCR (where i am now) and practice animation on the side but to be totally honest, im miserable not working on my passion. I want to transfer to maybe cal state fullerton where i can double major in animation and in something else (just for the sake of having a major that will get me a job).

I go to ITT-Tech for Software Development Technologies. We touched on Design, Database design. Then Mostly programming. Animation is mostly a Hobby. The amazing animators normally make there money from getting a different degree and just throwing there animation's in there portfolio.

But do not let anyone discourage you. If you want to big a big time animator for Games/Movies/Commercials/ etc. Do not let us or anyone tell you not to. If you get your degree and become good enough you will get where you want to be.

Just small time flash animating is a hard career to get considering most Web Designers know flash inside and out. (Along with other programs)

Good Luck

This was really helpful! I definitely plan to double major or at least minor in animation. Either way it wont be my only plan. Ill at least have a back up. Thank you for the advice. Its always nice to be able to get opinions from people who have already gone through this.

Animation Majors? Posted January 11th, 2013 in Animation

Anybody here studying for a degree in animation? Im interested in transferring to a school where i can study an animation major but as of right now im way too nervous to go ahead and take the plunge. I was wondering if anyone could share their experiences and advice.

I was a little worried that would be the only solution. Yeah, ill definitely give that a shot. Thanks for the advice.

Push your smoothing to 35-40 and draw faster. The more time you spend on any particular line will cause more shake. If you're doing backgrounds or non animated parts, I recommend the line or pen tool. Perfect lines that are much easier to edit. Hope this helps

Ive tried doing that before but it usually results in gaps and fluctuating thickness in the lines i draw (more fluctuations than normal). Plus drawing the lines quickly like that usually results in redrawing the same line for what seems like hundreds of times. I guess i should probably become more familiar with quicker more precise pen strokes.

Response to: Animation + College? Posted January 2nd, 2013 in General

I started college last a few months ago and i didnt major in animation despite having a huge passion for it. Ive been regretting it the minute i stepped on that campus. Im considering transferring to cal state fullerton so i can minor in it and major in something that can serve as a back up.

My advice would be minor in animation so you are practicing your passion while also having a viable back up plan.

Im having a lot of trouble with exporting my flash animations in such a way that the quality doesnt turn south and frames are not dropped. I use adobe flash cs6 professional and would like to edit my animations using final cut express 4 (i use a mac desktop computer to make these animations). I also have adobe after effects cs5 but i have practically no knowledge as to how to use the program. Does anybody have any suggestions for me? I animate on a 1280x720 stage (Dont know if this info is relevant but cant be too sure).

If anyone has some advice on how to export my animations with decent quality for youtube it would be would be greatly appreciated.
