the U.S. Christian Clergy apparently is getting more tolerant of homosexuals but the homophobic clergy in Asia are planning to sever ties with this church.

Response to: Americans: The Jews of the World Posted July 20th, 2003 in Politics

from what I've read in this post, the argument of zionism happens to be the lack of the desire for a diverse nation. The jewish people, after centuries of oppression in Europe felt that it was necessary to reclaim their ancestral homeland in Israel. Not Uganda, Israel.
Now whether they have a right to have land was granted by the UN, and can be taken away through international persuasion. The issue for the Israelis is that while being oppressed on their own granted property, they found it obligatory to take land up to the Galilee river, being that's the boundary of the Ancient land. Never did Zionism ever ask for more than what is described in the Torah: From the Golan Heights to the north, to the galilee in the east, to the Sinai Peninsula in the South. Those are as far as the aggressive movement would ever go. I assure you of that.
It is the lack of diversity on the Fundamentalist Muslim nations that add to the frustration in the region. Given that many claim a mere 7 or so million in Israel can't demonstrate diversity, while millions all over the Middle East can not let go of the "Olive Tree" perpetuates the millenia long struggle between members in that region of the world.

By the way, not all jewish people are zionist. Although initially taught to be that way, many could care less being that they take for granted the pride that comes with having the ancestral state mentioned in the religious readings.

Response to: Patch vs. Pill: Pick your poison Posted July 19th, 2003 in Politics

that brings me to another odd question: are certain contraceptives tools of genocide?

Patch vs. Pill: Pick your poison Posted July 18th, 2003 in Politics

With the advances today in medicine, i find it extraordinary that they have reduced medicines to mere patches that have the contents enter the bloodstream in a steady period of time. Contraceptives to cardiac enhancing treatments have become fields of interest for these kinds of medicine.

But what if you could use them for pure evil, bioterrorism? Who is to say, that you could take a poisonous substance, use this technology to make a patch and create new forms of assassination. Yes, it's a bit farfetched, but in countries such as the ones in africa, where many of the governments can be overthrown easily, why not use the patch as a form of painful execution? Now if there are any medical experts in the room, you'd debate the possiblity of putting viruses, fungi, or bacteria into patches. I'd agree with you, but would wonder if that could ever happen. Discuss the impact of medicine and how it can be used to cure whats ails you, or ail what cures you.

that's partially true...certain species of feline and reptile actually would enjoy a good meal from humans. It's only that we've created technology and know-how to evade mother nature and become the hunters.

in addition, the fact that we've become omnivores demonstrates social evolution. like our ape ancestors, we used to be herbivores...something gave us the taste for blood.

Response to: Paying for Healthcare... Posted May 26th, 2003 in Politics

the irony of it all is that nurses are taking over many of the jobs doctors used to perform. The need for a doctorate in medicine is slowly becoming obsolete unless you are in a corporate research job.

US capitalistic healthcare does not allow the patient to see the doctor s/he desires, but rather, the doctor that paid the hefty sum to be on their list. This limits the amount of patients a qualified doctor could be practicing on. In addition, torrential prices for malpractice insurance leave doctors in a debt to start the year.

So where does this leave doctors...surely unless you are a hollywood plastic surgeon, you cannot consider self-employment anymore, especially going solo. So you could share an office with other doctors, or even with a graphic design company!

If you want to see doctors now you'll find them in a hospital. No brainer right? But who does all the screening and blood tests and paperwork nowadays. The RNs and nurses. The time doctor spends with you is cut shorter and shorter, and the amount the doctor gets paid is diminishing.

So what's my argument? Why be a doctor and spend 12 years after highschool studying in order to enter the capitalist society, when you have to work even harder to manage not only the debts you've made over those years, but to actually pay the rent and maybe raise a family?

::sigh::

i'm a bit baffled by more than half of kramer's arguments which focus on the downfall of the economy. If it was Bush's government that discovered and exposed the various frauds, doesn't that mean that he was doing his job?

Also, since when does everything get pinned on the president? Condi Rice was the one at fault for 9/11, she clearly did not do the job Bush assigned to her. When it comes to the wars, Bush hasn't shown any weakness in government strength, unlike other presidents such as kennedy, and carter who screwed up intl. diplomacy.

thank you for sharing kramer's arguments, i don't agree with him completely

Oh McVeigh Posted April 30th, 2003 in Politics

Key McVeigh Witness Testimony Questioned

WASHINGTON (AP) - Ten days before Timothy McVeigh was executed, lawyers for FBI lab employees sent an urgent letter to the attention of Attorney General John Ashcroft alleging that a key prosecution witness in the Oklahoma City bombing trial might have given false testimony about forensic evidence.

The allegations involving Stephen Burmeister, now the FBI lab's chief of scientific analysis, were never turned over to McVeigh, though they surfaced as a judge was weighing whether to delay his execution because the government withheld evidence.

The letter, however, was recently turned over to bombing conspirator Terry Nichols who faces another trial on Oklahoma state murder charges.

``Material evidence presented by the government in the OKBOMB prosecution through the testimony of Mr. Burmeister appears to be false, misleading and potentially fabricated,'' said the June 1, 2001, letter to Ashcroft obtained by The Associated Press.

The letter cited Burmeister's testimony in a civil case as evidence contradicting his earlier McVeigh testimony. It was sent to Ashcroft's general fax number and by courier with the notation ``URGENT MATTER FOR THE IMMEDIATE ATTENTION OF THE ATTORNEY GENERAL.''

Justice officials said Wednesday the letter was routed to Ashcroft's clerical office in the Maryland suburbs of Washington, where it sat for nearly two months and then was forwarded to the FBI - well after McVeigh was executed.

Neither Ashcroft nor other top officials in the Justice Department who handled the McVeigh case saw the letter, spokeswoman Barbara Comstock said. It was never reviewed to determine if it should be handed over to McVeigh's lawyers, officials said.

the US is staying in there for 50 years like it did with Germany. The number of troops will lessen over time but we'll still be there. Why would the US want the world's 2nd leading exporter of oil be run by fanatical illiterates?! Speaking of oil, the US wants to use the rest of the oil in the Middle East fast so that the supply runs out in the next 10 years like scientists predict.
