That isn't how it works at all!

There are two kinds of "RAM" Physical RAM and Virtual RAM.
Increasing virtual memory is another way of saying allocating system memory to your virtual ram, most people just refer to physical memory as RAM windows uses both for different purposes. If it were a Physical memory problem windows would freeze up totally; not stop images from loading and as such this is clearly a virtual memory problem.
