Could also be due to the number of co-authors -- the more people are co-authored on a flash, the higher the blam threshold. I'm not entirely sure what the increment is on that, though.

Appealing to admins about whistle status will never get you anywhere. I remember a while back, there was a lot of controversy over a spam alt's reviews being deleted with negative whistle points, when they should have been deleted with no points either way. This was one of the first instances of a spam alt, and the result of it was that a lot of people who had flagged all the reviews (including myself) went down to either garbage or normal whistles.

There was a petition about it, I believe, but frankly, it would have been far too much hassle on the staff's part to reverse the negative effects it cause. Yes, a mod made a mistake, but those who decided that complaining was the best course of action got nowhere. I was one of the sensible ones who decided to keep my mouth shut and just start flagging again, and I got my whistle back up to gold (my desired whistle level) in no time.

Long story short, trying to get the admins to manually fix a whistle is something that will never happen, even if a rare mistake was genuinely made.

I'm sure that's untrue. There's been some rubbish about a "whistle glitch" circulating for a while now, and to me it just sounds like people looking for a scapegoat because they don't know what they should and shouldn't be flagging. I've seen review mods confirm that the system is working fine, so these users really have nobody to blame but themselves.

The best way forward for them is to stop complaining, talk to a few different review mods to get a few (slightly) differing opinions, and if they're still unsure, send the link to a review mod before they flag. There are plenty of ways to get help to restore a garbage whistle, but complaining isn't one of them.

Perhaps the ethics behind putting up a waxwork of Hitler are a bit sketchy, but I bet the people who spent months making the waxwork were a little more than slightly miffed that their hard work had been destroyed only minutes after it became available for the public to view.

I mean, IF the world did end, why would you hide? If there was some inescapable global disaster that wiped out the entire population of humans, would you REALLY want to die hiding like a scared little kid? No. You'd sit on the roof of your house, naked, drinking a beer, because you might as well enjoy your last few moments of life.

None of that matters anyway because the world isn't ending.

Greetings, Private. Whilst you wait for our recruitment officer, SlashFirestorm, to come along and start the recruitment process, I'd suggest you give the following material a thorough read-through:

Barracks FAQ
Elite Guard Barracks Manifesto

Also, if you need to know who the people in charge are around here, have a look at our list of officers.

Once Slash comes along, he'll explain the recruitment process to you and get things started.

In my experience, anything with high levels of caffeine or any other stimulant is actually detrimental to staying awake, as it gives you a high for a little while, then afterwards you feel more tired than before you had the drink / whatever it was that had loads of caffeine in it.

Anyway, I think the longest I've stayed up without sleep is about 72 hours. This was when I was a few years younger, though. These days, I'll maybe manage 48 hours. Depends what I'm doing though, and how busy I am. If I have things to do, I'll stay awake because I have to, but if I have nothing to do, I'll fall asleep.

At 7/4/08 11:58 PM, 749-Pi wrote: RESULTS:

Heh, nice going dude. Let the interesting reading commence...

1. Over 90 percent of serial killers are male.

Well that's an obvious one, check.

2. They tend to be intelligent, with IQ's in the "bright normal" range.

I believe I'm slightly above the bright normal range. Last I checked, the higher end of that range is about 129. I'm a 132 (last time I took an IQ test, anyway). Kinda check, I guess.

3. They do poorly in school, have trouble holding down jobs, and often work as unskilled laborers.

I wouldn't say I did poorly in school, or have trouble holding down a job. Pass.

4. They tend to come from markedly unstable families.

Meh, wouldn't call my family unstable. Pass.

5. As children, they are abandoned by their fathers and raised by domineering mothers.

LOL. Well, by parents divorced when I was 7, but my Dad was usually around for most of my childhood, and my mother is frankly anything but domineering. Pass that one too.

6. Their families often have criminal, psychiatric and alcoholic histories.

Nope.

7. They hate their fathers and mothers.

Nope.

8. They are commonly abused as children - psychologically, physically and sexually. Often the abuse is by a family member.

Not really.

9. Many serial killers spend time in institutions as children and have records of early psychiatric problems.

Again, not really. I'm starting to think I'm going to have less of these than I thought ;P

10. They have high rates of suicide attempts.

Haha! No. Suicide is teh silly.

11. From an early age, many are intensely interested in voyeurism, fetishism, and sado-masochistic pornography.

Can't say I am, or ever have been, really. I find that whole scene a bit much for my tastes.

12. More than 60 percent of serial killers wet their beds beyond the age of 12.

Really? That's interesting. I can't remember ever wetting the bed, but if I come across a serial killer who's DEFINITELY going to try and kill me, I'll taunt him about being a bed wetter. ;P

13. Many serial killers are fascinated with fire starting.

Well, I think a lot of people are fascinated with fire. I think that's more of a primal thing, but yeah. Check.

14. They are involved with sadistic activity or tormenting small creatures.

Not really my thing.

It's a lot of information, and most of it is repetetive, but that's all my research of the last 20 minutes. Still can't find a list of 30 anywhere.

The list of 14 traits was good though, so props to you for finding that. Gave me a bit of a laugh going through it :)

Topic: Pregnant Man gives birth-no joke

Posted: 07/04/08 11:42 PM

Forum: General

I saw something on the news about this when that man/woman/whatever was pregnant with the child. To be honest, it's not really as great as it sounds, seeing as "he" was born a woman, and simply decided to retain her/his uterus following the sex change.

IMO, "he" is still technically a woman, despite any and all physical/legal evidence to the contrary. I'm not really that clued up on sex changes, but I assume that the subject retains the chromosomes they were born with, right? In that case, this "man" would still have two X chromosomes, rather than an X and a Y chromosome. Genetically, then, "he" is still a woman, but just a horribly surgically mutilated woman. It isn't, therefore, truly a man giving birth IMO -- but what do I know?

Maybe that's because pitbull owners are possibly more reluctant to get their dog castrated, or something along those lines? I've encountered a lot of people who seem to be under the delusion that castrating their dog will make it less manly, or bullshit like that.

That's purely an assumption though, I could just be wildly generalising here, WHO KNOWS?

LOL. That's not specific to any breed, that just means you either need to get your dog castrated OR breed it with another dog if it's a breeding animal. Letting them finish is the worst thing you can do, because it's basically communicating to the dog that it's OK to do that, which obviously, it isn't.

They need to be well trained and disciplined because they're a very strong breed. If you focus their energy in the right way, though, they're great pets, just as any other dog.

There's a common conception of big dogs as aggressive and needlessly hostile, but that just isn't the case unless the dog has been poorly treated or received next to no discipline throughout its life. I personally have a German Shepherd - he's a rescue dog, and despite his obvious intelligence and character, I could really see when I first got him that he needed a lot of training to be a good pet. The more you put into making your dog a good pet, the more you'll get out of it in the long run, regardless of the breed.
