Well, of course everyone knows the importance of brushing your teeth, however perhaps not everyone knows all the details I mentioned. I know myself that you can get conflicting advice on oral hygiene and it can be a bit confusing. As I said earlier perhaps some people misuse alcoholic mouthwash or rinse their mouth after with water after using fluoride mouthwash, for example.

You should brush in cute little star shapes btw.
Mouthwash isn't bad I suppose, but not a must. Brushing is the most important! As for cute little star shapes, the idea is appealing.
At 6/7/12 10:45 AM, Kane-Farrell wrote: so... what are the benefits of this?
Well the benefits are stronger teeth and healthier gums which in turn lead to less (sometimes painful) problems related to tooth enamel decay as well as fresher breath. Did you know that dental caries can in rare cases lead to death? While it is unlikely, it is a lot more likely that poor oral hygiene would cause pain, unwanted appearance of teeth, bad breath and in extreme cases reduced ability to chew certain foods etc. Maybe you meant something else?

Bleach, if you drink it you will clean your teeth AND your colon. It's totally safe and healthy.
No I wrote it myself :( These are my tips! I'm sure your local dentist's dental hygiene pamphlet does not have exactly the same steps. I think many people might be misinformed and for example use alcohol mouthwash as if it was fluoride mouthwash and leave it in their mouth which is actually bad for your mouth since it lowers pH and dries out your gums!
Also I do not advocate the use of bleach, it is dangerous! Even for colon cleaning.

There's more than video games, violence and sex right?!
Hello hello!
For anyone who is interested in retaining good oral hygiene I just wanted to share some tips. Share your own if you have any!
Just follow these steps twice a day if possible!
1. Wait 30 minutes after eating/drinking, rinse your mouth with water.
2. Floss your teeth as well as you can by scraping the thread against the sides between the teeth, you can use the same floss thread several times. You do not need to do this step twice a day, if only once, at night is preferable.
3. Brush your teeth, make sure you do not miss any tooth surfaces and also make sure to massage gums. If possible, also scrape your tongue to remove bacteria, food remains and dead cells etc.
4. Rinse your mouth with mouthwash containing alcohol or similar harsh contents to kill bacteria in your mouth. Rinse with water afterwards unless doing step 5.
5. Rinse your mouth with mouthwash containing fluoride _without_ alcohol and DO not rinse. Try to leave it on for as long as possible before eating/drinking to maximize its ability to help remineralization of your enamel.
If you for some reason want/have to skip steps you should prioritize them in this order (from most important to least) brushing, flossing, fluoride mouthwash, alcohol mouthwash.
Other tips!
- If you want to cut down on food/drinks that cause tooth enamel decay remember to reduce frequency (how often you do it) rather than quantity (how much you eat/drink). The worst kind of thing, as an example, is sipping a high sugar content drink throughout the day.
- Avoid sugars, especially liquid sugar like soft drinks and coffee with sugar.
- Avoid sticky foods.
- Avoid anything that is acidic which lowers the pH of the mouth since this contributes to enamel decay.
- Drink water often, if possible let it replace other types of drinks which may be bad for your teeth.
Let's go!

Haha what? You're kidding? There are tons!
At 5/7/12 11:34 PM, AcetheSuperVillain wrote: I get what you're saying, but I think it's more likely that GenderA would adopt the ways of GenderB as a conscious compromise in order to get closer to members of GenderB. For example, a guy might watch a girly reality TV show he wouldn't normally watch so that he can talk to girls about it. A girl might play some video game or sport she wouldn't normally play to be around guys who play it. In a classic sitcom outcome, they might start absorbing inverse gender traits from the given activity, but it's not quite the same.
Well that's on a more simple level I think. What I'm trying to explain is much more rare, at least from what I know, and it deals with self-image.
At 5/7/12 11:34 PM, AcetheSuperVillain wrote: As a male, I think the female body is nice to look at, but I wouldn't want to have one. I can't think of anything specific to feminine beauty that I would want to have. Maybe gracefulness, since I was always a clumsy kid, but my efforts to correct clutziness have usually been based on masculine weight training and martial arts.
So I guess what I'm saying is, I think my own gender is the superior one, and most of the females I meet seem to think that feminine traits are superior. I think that because being attracted to someone means you would try to become attractive to that person, so if your attraction to someone is the only factor, you're going to stick to your own gender.
I am reminded of the anime/manga trope of girls "falling in love" with a female character who portrays masculine strength or self-confidence, for example Sailor Moon's obsession with Sailor V. I've seen both male and female authors use it, but I don't think that happens in real life, or at least not in America. That might make for an interesting behavioral psychology question.
So the question that could be phrased could be - why would you want something (a woman) depending on its (her) attractiveness, yet do not want to have it yourself (whatever is attractive about her)? I think like some people want to be like their idols there are sometimes people who want to be like the gender they are attracted to, do you understand what I mean?

When I started acting/dressing more masculine suddenly I got a lot of interest from girls.
So I guess it worked out.
Oh, ok, do you think you would have continued with it otherwise?

On the matter of your doubts on the actuality of the disorder, as far as physiological causes go there is a theory which claims that these kinds of 'disorders' may arise from a endocrine system (hormonal) condition where people from birth have a 'deficiency' of their sex hormone (testosterone or estrogen).
Looking at gender reassignment, I feel it can be justified provided there are strong physiological grounds for it (so much that it wouldn't be called a gender reassignment surgery anymore but whatever). I fear that too often the culturally imposed gender roles play a larger role than physiological factors when people want these surgeries, which in my book does not warrant gender reassignment. Generally, the way most of the world is now culturally, that should not come as a surprise though.

You didn't conform to your gender stereotype? How did you attain the impression of such discontent?
At 5/7/12 10:06 AM, satanbrain wrote: I have never had the slightest desire to be "appealing". Humans have this desire because they think it will attract the members of the opposite/same sex. Be appealing in a form you find appealing is a symptom of self loathing, it is a futile attempt to love oneself more through physical appearance.
Humans are social animals and being attractive is a fundamental aspect of human life, whether it be for reproduction or other kinds of contact. Whether we like it or not, it still to some extent provides a first impression of people and who they are.
At 5/7/12 10:07 AM, Conquestus wrote: Mmmmh I think yes, I really wanted to feel more feminine at all, but more for reasons of symphatizing and getting into another mindset, instead of wishing to be a girl for real.

At 5/7/12 11:44 AM, AcetheSuperVillain wrote: If you look at it as Rugged = Masculine, Bishi = Feminine, they seem like opposite, but back to my first point, masculine beauty and feminine beauty aren't all the different. Nice hair, good complexion and a fine body are signs of good health, regardless of gender, a desirable genetic trait that the human instinctively wants to pass on.
I figure that males are initially more competitive amongst other males than females are with other females (although it's obvious that this can be overcome by nurture or natural deviation). Facial hair and beefcake muscles showcase a male's aggressiveness against other males, possibly winning a fight before it ever starts. (facial hair is grown by testosterone, testosterone makes a person aggressive) These traits aren't attractive themselves, but some females will subconsciously extrapolate aggressiveness as the ability to land and maintain a good job and protect her from other men or other dangers. However, too much aggression is too much, so likewise, excessive facial hair and beefcake will look unattractive instead.
Well, in pure evolutionary and biological terms, it boils down to men looking strong, capable of being providers and protectors and for women to looking fertile and able to raise children. In modern society, there are undoubtedly other factors playing in as consequences of cultural evolution. However, I strongly believe a similar basic need still plays a role, in which this role of seeking to attain a kind of masculine vs. feminine attractiveness certainly constitutes an interesting area of study.
As I have looked into this I have stumbled upon an interesting thing - perhaps it is possible to have attractive characteristics of the opposite gender as some kind of consequence of being attracted to it in the first place? It sounds like a paradox and might indeed be one, but I am speculating whether it could be. I mean, as a female you are not usually attracted to other females but rather males, couldn't that possibly lead to a female wanting to attain attractive features of a male since she herself find those 'superior' in a sense? What are your thoughts about this?

If I'm thinking about my sexiness, I go for something between the dark, mopey bishi and rugged Commander Riker look, which comes naturally to me.
It's interesting, thinking about how males want to appear sexy, some go for masculinity (muscles, perhaps facial hair) while others go for a more feminine approach (neat, clean and maybe with make-up even). It should also be difficult to go in between since they very much could be considered opposites of each other. What do you think about this?

Hi boys!
As usual, I'm up in some psychology research and I was thinking about an interesting thing - the desire to appeal the different sex. Without looking at sexual orientation, do you ever feel you want to be 'sexy' but in the other opposite gender's way? For instance, if I wanted to look all strong and muscular and have a wide upper body rather than soft and cute, or whatever. For guys it means the opposite of course, wanting to be 'sexy' in a feminine way. Has any of your ever felt this? What do you think about it?
