a handful of sonic games that came out after 2004
All I can say for this game is meh...
In terms of quality it definitely sends mw3 packing but honestly- its completely generic fps vs slightly less generic fps. The single player looked way to scripted for my tastes.
The entire concept of "grit and realism" has grown more stale to me than even the most watered down knock knock joke. Upon bf3's release we can at least reach a forte of what can be done in this sub-genre and game designers can get out of their emo/darkmetal phase and build games with some depth and creativity again.

The parody is only slightly exaggerated for the sake of humor (but the AI will screw you over in every way from the parody minus pissing on the witch) and anyone who played L4D2 on single player knows that the single player option is a complete waste of time. Unless I knew someone who had the game that I wanted to play it with I wouldn't pay anything for L4D2, even then it isn't worth much as the game quickly gets repetitive.
I played through l4d 1 on expert and found the AI to be a little stupid but the 2nd game is barely repetitive for me even after 2 years of owning it (partial credit goes to the AI director and clever coding).
L4d is mainly meant to be a multiplayer fps zombie game and does a fine job at being it.
plus I get bored of call of duty way faster than I got bored of left 4 dead even with all the extra content.

why wouldn't it make any difference

clearly you need to dislodge your head from your posterior and quit being so presumptuous.
I have played left 4 dead on single player so have you know and your accusing me of not changing my opinion because of a parody that you think i haven't watched?
seriously proofread your post and you will sound a lot less like a moron
But L4D2 single player is non existant.
l4d has single player...
fail
The article and study is just a bunch of fluff and bullshit. There's no way to prove that it's even probable for us to be living in a simulation. We only know that it's possible. How the fuck was a scientific study done on something this abstract? There's really nothing to observe or research.
the oddities of quantum mechanics maybe?
tiny particles existing in more than one place and vanishing in and out of existence?
Glad I'm in a philosophy class.
The philosophical argument basically boils down to 'it is highly probable that we are living in a simulation'
the difference with this is there is actually scientific study to back it up

educated theory supported by fact but still ultimately deniable.
would you rather live in a simulation or the real world?

The fact that Valve can weave cinematics and story into gameplay like no other company can.
And that they still focus on a strong single player campaign instead of slapping multiplayer on the back of every sell-able box and shipping games half baked

Actually I play all the games he reviews and almost always obtain the same impression from the game that he states about it in the first place.Really? You played Red Dead Redemption and thought it sucked? You played L.A. Noire and thought it sucked? You played Torchlight and thought it sucked? You played fucking SUPER MARIO GALAXY 2 and thought it sucked?
Did he say that it sucked? Or did you just infer that because he wasn't sucking the games off?
I suggest going back and actually watching those reviews ALL THE WAY THROUGH, cause I certainly did.
He didn't say RDR sucked, he actually said it was a beautifully written beautifully looking time sinc, and explained in full detail why he thought so.
He actually admitted to liking SMG 2 more than SMG 1 but explained that mario was being milked the crap out of why he didn't favor the game because of that.
and no where in his LA Noire video did he say "LA NOIRE sucks." so either you have the memory of an presumptuous, upset 13 year old, or your a fanboy
I wont assume your either just for the sake of not turning this into a flamewar.
Your next post is going to completely ignore my logic and you'll assume I think the popular opinion is always right.
The classic snob responce
He's also probably the most reliable reviewer out there because he NEVER ASSUMES ANYTHINGS GOOD BEFORE PLAYING IT, unlike say- IGN who just give every sequel to a good game an automatic >8 numerical score. How is he reliable just because he thinks almost every game is bad?
read the quote above this response and you'll find out
Geez I'm American and I don't even throw that much of a hissyfit over itI also said I wasn't offended.
obviously you were since you had to write a half a paragraph denouncing his since of humor

and here comes the usual fanboy anti-criticism rage
Any normal person would ignore his nitpicked flaws, unless the game actually is really bad.

He's also a douchebag, constantly insisting he's the smartest person in the world and is the only person who sees THE TRUTH in that a game is bad.
And he likes to mention Americans being stupid and fat. Way to go, Yahtzee, you're deliberately offending over half your fanbase. And the other part likes games you don't, so you offend them too by calling them retards. Not that anybody SHOULD be offended, as he's only doing it for comedy, but it's still a dick move and pretty tasteless.
It seems like his kind of comedy is not the kind for you.
Geez I'm American and I don't even throw that much of a hissyfit over it
If you have an open (and fast reading) mind on gaming and don't necessarily mind your favorite game being bagged on a little then this is the reviewer for you.
If your a fanboy then this is probably not the reviewer for you.

Every numerical release
like HL or HL2
Half life 3 would die under the weight of much heavier titles if it didn't walk in with at least something new on its plate, especially after this long.complete lack of news about development on HL3 from Valve, technically it doesn't even exist right now.
Then it's probably because (like I said) they haven't found out how to make a big splash yet
It will come

And it has always been my position that Valve is making waaaaay too much money with TF2 and L4D2 to give a shit about what's left of Half Life's fanbase. They COULD spend all the money they're raking in to put into HL3's budget, but they waste it every week ordering Gabe massive amounts of twinkies.
once agian, I think your looking at this too much from a 2 dimensional plane (i doubt you even read my OP) I know what people think, and i'm trying to show that that isn't really the case
At 6/12/11 03:04 PM, GiantDouche wrote: because half life is now valve's 3rd or 4th most profitable series. tf2, portal, and lfd have taken priority, why would they bother being loyal to their longest running fanbase when there's money to be made?
once agian i don't think that is the case
Half life as a series has always been known for its innovations to fps gaming.

this is just my theory but I guess that could hold some weight
There has been a recent hate for Valve due to their delaying of there trademark series Half life.
Some think its because they simply don't want to make Half life games anymore and would rather focus on l4d or portal instead for they make much more money.
Some think that Valve is just greedily baiting our money more on small episodic releases than handing over full experiences because it's just more profitable
I will get straight to the point to say that neither of the above is true.
Half life is being delayed because innovation is becoming rapid and exponential.
What is Call of Duty's main trump card? It's multiplayer.
What is Portal's main trump card? It's puzzles and PORTAL mechanics.
What is Crysis's main trump card? It's graphics!
Heck what is BF main trump card? It's loyalty to simulating war.
and that's what people expect for every release.
Bad sequels are created all the time from good games because game developers ignore what made the first games tick and profitable.
Lets take a look back in time. Every consecutive release of Half life has altered the direction of FPS games for the better.
Half life 1 served to introduce storytelling elements to fps games, and Half life 2 put physics engines, and advanced animatitronic realism into style. Not to mention Valve has introduced a new engine within' every numerable release of Half life to keep it fresh.
Being ahead of the curve IS Half life's trump card, it's reputation, it's practical style that it can't live without and of which half life 3 would be disowned if it didn't do any of the above.
The problem isn't with laziness nor is it with disinterest, it's simply the fact that making big splashes within the genre is getting harder and harder to do. The Frost-byte engine from BF3 and cry-engine mods is practically going to soak up all the innovation to be had within the graphics department-- plus the source engine is loosing its edge; it's not flexible enough.
Valve's only choice was to get more conservative and take it slower until they could find a good or innovative idea, hence the episodic road half life has gone down and the endless additional content to l4d, and tf2-- their prime moneymakers.
If you ask me Valve is not pulling a duke nukem forever, (they know better than that) nor are they greedy. They just need some time. Half life 3 will have to be innovative to live up to its elders. So take your time Gabe Newell, be seeing the game in 2045...
