What he meant was, don't make a sprite movie. And he's right, don't.

Best possible blur in flashMX. Need photoshop though.

Response to: From 12 to 24 fps.. Posted April 7th, 2005 in Game Development

K, I'll explain it.

My SWF: 12 fps. Say, my movie is 10 seconds long. That would make my movie 120 frames long. Agreed?

Now, if I were to import that into Flash, and set the framerate to 24, this is what would happen:

My SWF keeps the same amount of frames, namely 120. THe new FPS = 24. As a result, my movie speeds up: it's now exactly 5 seconds long.

From 12 to 24 fps.. Posted April 7th, 2005 in Game Development

K, here's the deal.

I made a 'storybook' for a flash project at my dad's place. Exported the movie as SWF, saved the fla. Sent the SWF to a bunch of friends to see what they thought. So I go back to my own place, but I forgot to upload the fla to my webserver. So I ask 1 of my friends to send me the SWF, and I import the SWF into Flash. No problems, except this: the SWF (and the fla too, of course) are 12 fps, but I animate at 24 fps.

Now there's 1 thing I could do. Manually add a frame after every frame. Unfortunately for me, the SWF is nearly 1500 frames, and "spacing" that would be a real pain in the ass. My question: is there any tool to make SWF files run at double the FPS, without the movie speeding up?

Cheers

P.S. If you decide to use any of em, I don't need co-author, just my name in the credits is enough :)

Only super fast computers will be able to run that kind of stuff in real time on high quality. You've got a lot of gradients and a lot of light effects with alpha. That's gonna eat processor speed like no other.

Yeah, point and click horror games tend to have lots of processor intensive animation going on

You know that Flash 5, and above support MP3, right?

Response to: Tutorial for drawing in flash? Posted March 10th, 2005 in Game Development

Your best bet is to start drawing 10 years ago, but that's rather impossible so practice practice practice! Make a sketch (I prefer light blue), then draw over it on a different layer. Try drawing the guy from Alien Hominid, plants, lamps, furniture, whatever. I like to think that you develop your own style eventually (I know I have), so I would steer clear of tutorials. But that's me.

Response to: Mulletman Stickmen Posted March 9th, 2005 in Game Development

Stop using flash's default sound. You're making my head explode. Set the framerate to 20 or 24 or whatever. Etc.

Response to: Will this be blammed? Posted March 9th, 2005 in Game Development

Well, quality and animation wise I'd give it a 1, and oh my god is that the newgrounds preloader on a white background? I hope you do realize that it has a white bar that shows the progress right under the logo. Anyway, you're just staring at a static scene the entire time, do you ever see that in a movie? Try using camera angles or something (yes this involves redrawing your...guy) to make it more interesting. And nobody really likes those computer voices.

Response to: love hina art style Posted March 9th, 2005 in Game Development

If you want to make a boring tween only movie, it's possible. If you want movement and action, uhh no. You could simplify the style but judging by your knowledge of flash's limitations I would suggest reading some animation tutorials.

Response to: Germans In Ww Ii: Victims? Posted February 17th, 2005 in Politics

The reason America got involved in WW2 was because of communism. Russia was breaking through the German front, leaving America scared. America couldn't care less about a Nazi Europe, but feared a communist Europe. The bombing of Dresden was like hitting 2 birds with 1 stone, the Germans were demoralized, but more importantly, America showed the Soviets what they were "capable of". That's why a lot of people call don't call it the first bombing of the Cold War rather than the last bombing of WW2. Hiroshima and Nagasaki are involved in this too, somehow. Seems like America has always has a dirty plan ready for when the shit hits the fan.

IMO :D

And yeah maybe it wasn't the right thing to do. But that's no reason for neo-nazis to be demonstrating, and recruiting new people. Quoting a survivor of the Dresden bombing, "We all know where fascism took us", and that's the damn truth \m/

I noticed you use the eraser tool to delete parts of the body. If you want the best looking FBF, you're gonna have to F7 some keyframes and draw the stick guy from scratch every frame.

But you probably already figured this out. Keep em comin

I think there's enough movies about "future". Watrrrrrrr!

Response to: Are Collabs a Good thing? Posted February 14th, 2005 in Game Development

People tend to vote really high on collabs, even if there is only 1 movie that deserves the mark, I don't like that. The movies called 'collabs' are never really collaborations either, if you ask me. 5 people make something with the same theme. Well. There ain't a lot of collaboriation in that, you know what I'm saying? Oh well, they're still fun to watch anyway.

Response to: file sizes Posted February 4th, 2005 in Game Development

Dunworryabout your fla size, ever. Unless you're making a holy music video to a 60 minute symphony, your FBF flash won't exceed 5 MB.

Response to: Frame By Frame work Posted February 2nd, 2005 in Game Development

Ok dude. When you press F6. You like, select the layer and hit the delete button on your keyboard. The onion skin thingy will turn transparent. An alternate way of achieving this is by pressing F7 rather than F6.

Response to: file size too big Posted February 1st, 2005 in Game Development

How long is your movie? I don't recommend 'removing' gradients because that's easier said than done, and it will make your movie less appealing cause of the bland colors. So yeah compress to Mp3, set the quality to 64 or something, not 128. And if it's like >7minutes, split it up.

Response to: Paint tool the most useless thing? Posted February 1st, 2005 in Game Development

The paintbrush is the win. Frame by frame animation with the pen tool looks so noobish.
