I was reading through my "God is not real" topic and some people consider that I'm just full of teen angst. You know why we teenagers are full of angst and you know why it's just considered "normal teen behavior"? Because older adults usually don't care about what we have to say. They think we're just being stupid. I know a lot of peers that have a lot to say about the wrongs of society and they are really informed people but adults don't take the time to listen to them, they don't take their thoughts seriously, or they think our thoughts are just plain "silly & cute".
Here's an example, I was talking about atheism at the table the other night, and my dad, who went to Catholic school, defended God's existence. I said He is not real, just hype, and I thought I put up some concrete evidence (I brought science into the conversation), I verbally fought everything he had to say about God's "truthful existence", and when I verbally cornered him, he and my stepmom laughed at everything I had to say. I was emotionally hurt and left the table, even though my plate was still full and was still hungry. I did not go back down there for the rest of the night. They did not apologize until like three hours later even though they usually apologize five minutes later. Can you believe that? My OWN family laughed at my thoughts. I'll probably never get over that (that doesn't mean I am/was emo).
I know I'm displaying teen angst now but this is why all teens feel teen angst: 95% of adults don't take our thoughts seriously. They don't think we are as capable as they are. Technically, we are young adults. I think my thoughts, as a teen, matters as much as the next guy's. I think they should lower the voting age (and anything else you get to do when you're 18) to 16. To me, that is the age of young adulthood.
I am sorry if I wasted your time. This is just something that's really been getting on my nerves lately and just thought I'd throw that out there.
