As many as you need. They really are your friend!! As long as you keep things labeled and organized, having a bunch isn't a big deal. Putting stuff in folders helps too.
Personally, I hate scenes and I never use them (something I heard, read a lot about, and had problems with when I first started).
So, yeah... it's all up to how you prefer to work and what works for you.
