Or, like most people... you have the PREloader in the FIRST frame so it shows as your movie loads... then once it's loaded, it jumps to frame 2 or beyond... where the content (menu/movie/whatever) is... and never goes back to frame 1... because it doesn't need to (unless someone refreshes the page).

For future backgrounds... you could try using google or look outside/around you for inspiration and references ...and (I seem to say this a lot) don't rely on the smudge tool so much. Like stock gradients... it screams novice!

If you have to filter rape the crap out of a photo to make it visually appealing ...then you're doing it wrong. In my opinion, this isn't a photography thread, but rather a photo manipulation thread. Try posting the original images... in their raw form. Then maybe you can get some honest critiques so you can improve.

Will anyone be able to tell that this isn't yours?

It's kind of bland with all the gray... and seems unbalanced. Like you just threw stuff in haphazardly.

Your 'style' seems to be 'quick and messy' ...which probably works well to speed up the animation process, but for a menu that's mostly static... I think taking the time to clean things up (not so much that it doesn't match, but enough to make it more finished looking) would really pay off in the end.

...and, I'm personally not a fan of hand drawn type unless you're really good at it. There are tons of free font sites (check the art101 news posts for links) ...the right face can make a world of difference.

We've tried corralling requests and adverts to single threads... it hasn't worked.

Once it reaches multiple pages, no one will look back to the beginning posts.... 'cuz odds are a lot of those people won't be around anyway.

As someone looking for talent... sifting through such a thread would be annoying (I just experienced it with the audio advert thread!). I would much rather make my own new thread describing what I need and let interested parties come to me. At least that way I know I won't be hitting a bunch of dead links or inactive, uninterested users.

I do like the idea of one place for artists to post their availability though (for those people who don't mind sifting) ...but maybe a better alternative to a thread would be a news post ...because it's editable/updateable.

If made with an account like Art101, multiple users would have access and could share the burden of maintaining it. There could be links to the artists art page/portfolio and a line or two on price range and capabilities ...and they could be organized by specialties or style... price... whatever.

I have no idea what new features the redesign will bring. It would be nice if we could have more than one image in a news post... 'cuz then each person could have a little sample pic too... or, maybe, just maybe...it'll make something like this completely unnecessary. Who knows!!!!

...OR... just thought of another option... an editable google doc! That's sortable... by price, style, etc. ...and can have images too. Hmmm!! Yeah, I kinda like that idea!

So yeah... I agree that the front legs need to be longer ...and wider towards the ends... and the angle of the back-most back leg is wrong Try to match the other back leg.

Give the butt a lift and some more roundness... that'll help with the tail. The neck seems too thin too...maybe take the mane up to the ear to fill that out... and do what dirtymeatball said with the wing.

You should try switching to flash now because it's easier to edit and move things around in there. Once you get the line work down, you can color in ps if you're more comfortable with those tools.

To Artist-Lost... I get where you're coming from, I really do! I'd typically be in the ring with you ...but let's keep things in perspective. This isn't the corporate world. This is some 20-something kid asking some other 20-something kids for an image to use on social networking sites. Save your fight for the scumbags that come here looking for easy prey and milk them for anything they can get (logo, site design, etc for an established and potentially profitable business). Those are the asshats that deserve a beat down.

...also, as irritating as TheZen (who I now refer to as TheAntiZen) maybe be... telling him he has no skill or potential to improve was kinda harsh and unnecessary. Anyone, regardless of age or annoyance level... can improve... as long as they have the right attitude. So let's try to keep that kind of talk out of the forums, please.

I think we all recognize photography as an art form here... the reason photos aren't allowed in the portal is because they (tom and crew) didn't want people uploading generic pics from spring break or their dogs bday party. There are enough sites specifically for that already.

Regardless, the above image is a patch job of random images and therefore... as it stands... would be kicked if uploaded to the portal. It can still be uploaded to your art page ...just don't check it as public (might hurt your chances of being scouted though).

Do I consider it an illustration? No. But what do I know :P
