Topic: How's my NEW stand up comedy?

Posted: 11/26/09 12:54 AM

Thanks a lot guys. Sorry I made you [face_plain], iCock :p

It would be great to perform for more, and larger, audiences, television included. I hope to keep doing comedy. If I can support myself with comedy as well as continue pursuing other types of performance like voice acting, sketch, and improv, I will be a happy happy person.

Thanks a lot everyone.

I wonder why you think it's awkward for a young comedian. Are you scared for them? I could understand that. Filming looks more unprofessional, you don't recognize them, seems like there's a lot more chance of failure :p Thanks!

haha you guys are hilarious.

Thanks. Yeah, last January when they played a new comic every night and all these new Comedy Central Presents were being shown, I was thinking...Man, I could totally do this... as I watched unfunny comic after unfunny comic. If so many unfunny people can get Television specials, I think I could get decent enough to have one too. Crappy stand up gives me hope. Or worries me about the evolution of comedy.

No, a couple open mic nights is all I've done. This week was my 2nd and 3rd time being in front of a fairly large audience. Jason Weems really wants me to come to the DC improv, and a guy that does event planning at my school asked me to make myself a demo reel. He said he knows people he can show it to and possibly get me a few shows or openings or something. We'll see. I appreciate it, man. I'm going to graduate college this year, and I'm looking at going to Second City in Chicago or another theatre to continue studying improv, sketch/stand up writing and performance, and acting. During that time I'll be sure to perform at clubs whenever I can. We'll see where I go from there.

Thanks guys. This is great feedback. Yeah, the beginning was a little bit slow, I felt that. I stuck to "one joke" because tell stories and paint pictures of situations that I can act out with characters and stuff. I finished that bit just an hour or so before I took the stage, so it probably needs more work. I was only up there for about 7 minutes, and I think it's fairly normal for a comedian to talk about one subject for a few minutes before switching. I wouldn't really call it just one joke, but thanks for the critiques everybody!

Thanks, man. I don't mind if you don't like it, but if you say what you don't like and have any suggestions, especially if you're involved in comedy, than that would help me out much more.

lol why do so many people comment on my hair when they watch it?

Hey there!

I posted a thread last year asking you guys what you thought of my stand up comedy and I got some great feedback from the BBS. A bunch of you asked if I would post the next time I did stand up.

I entered the comedy competition at my school, won, and in this video I was opening for Jason Weems and Jamie Kennedy. Got some great laughs. Hope you guys like it! Let me know what you think of it! Click the link below :)

so I didn't like it... for a minute. Now I think it is far superior. Every once and a while, a movie wouldn't really load, it'd just stay white. But now that the movie will load as soon as I get to the page, it's so much more convenient. I can even read a few reviews while it's loading.

Wide layout rules. Awesome job to the staff. This site just gets better all the time.

They're immune to radiation, not esplosions lol.

Well fucking done.

Oh come on lol. That's a little melodramatic for killing a roach, don't you think? Besides, cockroaches could TAKE OVER a home if they all did it at once, so you've gotta kill the ones brave enough to take you on alone.

much more realistic

well, not really. Cockroaches are bigger than ants. The revolver is more deadly than the airsoft gun. So yours is also too extreme :p

@ OP - so, doesn't it mess up your walls to shoot an airsoft gun in the house? You'd think you'd get in trouble for that. Won't a pellet bounce back and hit you? lol

As far as that goes, I myself have found that teenaged girls make more "mistakes" but teenaged boys are more likely to drive like morons deliberately.

Yeah, boys will get in a collision or slide off the road because of recklessness. Girls will get into fender benders because of carelessness. Hopefully nothing too horrible. o_o

Topic: Summer Projects?

I'm finally working at my school for the summer. I've waited for free housing since my freshmen year. Finally! I'll be working at my school's Multimedia Production Center, working on video projects, personal projects, and working with all of my favorite programs and possibly getting Apple certified in a bunch of them.

Also hoping to finish up a few animations and get some solo submissions here on newgrounds as well as continuing to do lots of voice work. I also want to work out and get fit this summer. It's going to be the best summer in years, I'm sure.

At 5/21/09 10:15 PM, DgsGaming wrote: Very important, especially when it's with someone I enjoy being with.

I hear ya there.

It's important to me because there are so many different personal projects that I want to focus on - voicework, animations, videos, design, music, and many more I have to attempt to fit in with my responsibilities as well as my personal life with my friends and what not. There's just not enough to do it all. Years are going by way too fast. I'm going into my senior year of college, and that's blowing my mind. The past few years have gone by in less than one, it feels like. I still remember so much of it so clearly. It's ridiculous, and I don't feel like I've accomplished enough yet. I'm pretty nervous about being shoved out into the real world with thousands of other college graduates...especially with this economy. Am I even going to find a job?

As far as full grown adult males and females, I'd say it is up in the air. I have encountered many bad male drivers and many bad female drivers.

Though I do think that teenage girls are worst than teenage boys.

but really... almost every driver has done something stupid behind the wheel. It's just up to the individual, it's hard to tell whose worst.

Welp... last night, just before voting ended, a big ass downvoting session was saved up for me in which I received at least 200 votes of probably nothing but 1's because my score not only went down half a star, it even pushed me out of second place.

Tonight, I placed 3rd place and will receive 1/32nd of what Alex will receive for his hard-earned 1st place prize. ...$250.

Newgrounds, thank you for all of your efforts, I thank you so much. Because of you guys, I was able to almost get 1st and because of an assholish technicality... I got 3rd. But thank you for the helping my chances. Maybe someday I'll have a fair chance at entering a contest with real judges and that isn't on youtube's terms. Thanks again, and don't sweat it, it was bullshit from he start. Thanks.

You guys helped show me again how great of a community newgrounds can be.

How come your vote dropped..l mean, like 100 newgrounders voted 5, it's kinda impossible...

that's what I don't understand. How could anyone compete with that?

I'll find out tonight who won, and I dont really know what to expect. I just don't trust youtube. As of right now, I still believe I'm in 2nd, but I just won't be hugely surprised if youtube was wrong with what they showed us, I dont know.

I am hoping there was some sort of underground secondary judging taht might happen, but I don't know of that either. Let's pray for a miracle, but either way I'm forever in newgrounds' debt.

Thank you all so much. I'll post the results as soon as I can.

Thanks everyone. Though... I really don't know what just happened. I was like only a couple of votes ahead of him, now I'm 50... yet I have a half star less than him. Even with newgrounds, my score has been steadily dropped. What's the deal?
