Heh, the picture I posted back on page 42 just won 2nd in a professional photo contest to yarg. For some reason when I posted it the colors were all fucked up, so here's a miniature picture with the color adjustment taken from the site itself.

I was thinking of writing about thoughts of graffiti, is it art or plain vandalism. I'm not sure if this is a very good topic since I'm already leaning towards the art side and only have a few counter arguments.
so can't you just vouch for the side you agree with? make your thesis statement out to support graffiti as an art and provide the evidence to prove it in your paper. Make the goal of your paper to persuade the reader that graffiti/street art is a legitimate form of art that is often misunderstood.
@mindchamber: i will definitely put the paper up online somewhere when it's finished

why don't you two continue arguing with PMs? No one wants to see a thread full of two people constantly flaming each other.
anyway, I have a research paper that I have to write, and I'm thinking about doing it on graffiti. I have a choice of writing 10 pages, or 5 pages with a video, so I was thinking of doing some interviews and showing clips of me painting in my garage or something as transitions. I use spray paint occasionally, but mostly just for coloring 3d stuff, so I'm a little concerned about getting it all done in 3 weeks
any thoughts on this?
For my senior year project in high school i wrote a paper and created a magazine on the history of graffiti starting from prehistoric cave paintings as a visual means of communication then skipping to the early hiphop years in new york city during the early 70's up til the crossover of street culture and gallery arts that we see growing stronger every day. i also made a video of myself doing a stupid little throwup on a wall in my area that can be seen on my profile page that i haven't updated in ages haha. anyway i learned a lot from that project and i enjoyed it so much, im continuing off of it for my Modern/contemporary art final paper/presentation that will focus on what street art is becoming today, how a new movement of street art strays even further from traditional graffiti and why public opinion is changing, etc.
check out Blek le Rat and you will see why cultured street artists don't see anything special about banksy. this guy was doin the same thing over 20 years ago. i think the reason why people acknowledge banksy more as a legitimate artist is because he dumbs down the message he is conveying for an ignorant public to appreciate. i'm not saying there's anything wrong with that. they just have different motives and target audiences.

The site isn't actually focused on people submitting their OWN stuff (which I'm sure you could do, though), but actually just bookmarking images. They just store them on their server for nerds (like myself) to browse through.

yeah because technically they are property of the usps so if they find out you are using them for a purpose other than their intended use, they can fuck you up the ass if they'd like. usually doesn't happen, but it can.
