I usually use Xubuntu, a side project of Ubuntu that is designed to fit in with a different desktop environment, and I love it. It's fast, stable and runs well on almost every computer possible, far better than every version of Windows that I've used.

Topic: How do you use this NG feature?

Posted: 04/16/09 02:42 AM

Forum: Where is / How to?

For putting ads in your submissions for money, we have the Flash API, which also lets you track where your game is placed across the net amongst many other features.

The Revenue Sharing feature allows you to gain part of the Ad Revenue that is gained on your profile, your blog posts and Flash/Audio submissions. For example, if a certain amount of people visited your page and loaded the ads from it, or clicked on it (it's either one of those), you would have whatever amount added to your account. If you reach fifty dollars, you will be sent a check.

You meet the statistical requirements, but your post quality is, to be honest, pretty awful. Some of your posts to have length, but those are usually broken scripts that are probably copied from tutorials that you don't understand accompanied by a short plea for a fix to them. As well as post quality and volume, you may want to focus on improving the grammar that you use on Newgrounds. Your posts often seem lazy and like you haven't been bothered to do things like capitalizing letters that add little or no time onto how long you type, if you do so at a high speed.

Try to improve on your posting habits, and then return.

The Linux version of Firefox shares this feature. There are addons for the Windows version that do the same, but we're not supposed to discuss blocking Newgrounds ads on the forums.

Is it just me, or are anyone else experiencing popup ads when browsing the Flash Portal? I opened one of them to check if they were ads, and it turns out that they were. In addition to this, the page that the popup was loaded from attempted to open another popup. I'm not experiencing them elsewhere on the site, but I am on submission pages.

Topic: What's a troll?

Posted: 04/15/09 06:44 AM

Forum: General

According to EncyclopediaDramatica:

"Trolling is a kind of prank and a lost art form, full of failed attempts and people who don't even know what trolling is.

Most people think that trolling is merely someone getting in an argument, or a fight, or attacking others. However, people do this all the time on the internet when they're not trolling. Trolling that does this is obvious and usually fails. People who think everyone who disagrees with them is troll are so easily trolled that they'll fall for Concerned Mother. A skilled troll can just appear to cause no conflict and agree with people and do it in such a way to provoke everyone else into a shitstorm.

The internet is full of people that think just being internet trash makes them a real troll. Acting racist for lulz is trolling but simply being a racist is not. Acting as stupid as Chris-chan because you really are that stupid makes you a lulzcow and not a troll. If someone goes and slips razor blades inside the hamburgers of little kids and goes "haha you have been trolled", despite being hilarious, that's not trolling, it's being a psychopath. Even worse than that, there are furries. Common sense would say that no one could seriously be like that, that all furries are trolls, but then again, common sense is often very, very wrong.

Even when someone knows how to troll, they usually fail to be funny and then experience troll's remorse. Such feelings tend to pass once they realize that people who take the Internets seriously enough to get upset by trolling really ought to kill themselves. Once they reach this point, they are said to suffer from Internet troll personality disorder. After long enough, they may even develop Chronic Troll Syndrome.

The most important thing that any troll should remember is not to believe in what you are saying, and be comfortable with telling made up lies whilst avoiding the truth or any factual details about your own life because not only are these boring, they could be used to identify you. To avoid the onset of troll's remorse, follow this technique and just lead them further down the avenue of trolling, swallowing your bait hook, line and sinker.

Only when one is a skilled troll can they pull off trolling IRL, such as Agent Pubeit, Penis Pump Sex Scandal, IRL Harry Potter spoilers, etc."

The whole page.

I started using MSN years ago and since then, I've loved it. The most recent release is annoying, and similar to a lot of Microsoft's recent work in the sense that it seems that they've spent more time working on the appearance than the actual program and features, but it's still far better than AIM. Last summer I downloaded AIM, and within minutes of registering I had removed it from my computer.

Topic: Rank each NG forum on intelligence!

Posted: 04/13/09 09:50 AM

Forum: General

I have to say, that in my experience, it has to go in the following order:

General < Videogames < Art < C&C < Audio < Flash < Politics < Wi/Ht? < Programming

General gets filled with thoughtless +1 posts and a lot of spam, and many of the regulars even join in with this, so (despite the fact that some of the members are amongst the most intelligent on the site) the average intelligence is pretty low.

Videogames is, despite being what you'd think should attract the most idiocy, generally made up of intelligent regulars. Many members drag it down a lot, though.

Art is where the BBS starts to get into the intelligent side, but due to the fact that most posts are spacefillers for images it's hard to rate their intelligence.

Clubs and Crews is extremely hard to describe, as it contains some of the most intelligent, and least intelligent, posters on the site. Even the intelligent seeming clubs can often attract unintelligent members, as I have seen, and the unintelligent seeming clubs can attract intelligent users.

I've never really visited Audio, so I'm going to place it beside the other creative forum, the Flash forum.

I started off my time on the BBS as a Flash Forum user. Although I rarely ever visit there anymore, I enjoyed my time there and most of the users there were far more intelligent than your average BBS users, and were very helpful in every situation that they could be, even when faced with the type of questions that they had about six times every single day (literally). These constant posts are what drags the Flash Forum down, but it's still one of the most intelligent forums in my opinion.

Politics contains a large amount of the most intelligent users on the site, but amongst them are a lot of the least intelligent users on the site. I don't visit there frequently, but when I do I often see threads created to convey a purpose, but the user who creates them does not provide any evidence at all, and is little more than a line long. Usually one of the more intelligent users provides some reasons for their point or asks them for some, but there are still a lot of people trying to convey a purpose with a point and nothing else, which takes it down slightly.

Where is/How to? is where a lot of the oldest (in both age and time on Newgrounds), most mature and most intelligent users on the site congregate. The regulars consist of helpful users who are avid B/Pers, posters and have a long no-missed deposits chain, which shows that they spent a lot of time on Newgrounds and are therefore very well accustomed to it. When I look through the Members and Regulars lists you always see intelligent users who obviously put a lot of thought into their posts, despite what it's about. I hang around in the Regs/Members lounge chatroom, and there's always interesting discussion going on there, as well. Maybe I'm ranking it high because it's where I spend most of my time, but I definitely know that there's a lot of intelligence in there.

Programming is probably one of the forums that I lurk the most, but due to the fact that the discussion is usually very technical, I rarely ever write posts in here. I'm pretty good with computing, especially for my age, but the regulars here are extraordinarily intelligent and are on another level of intelligence to most of the users of other forums on the figurative and mathematical side.

A lot of the time when I browse General I think that it looks like that anyway. The store items idea would definitely be good, since if statwhores wanted Medals enough, it could be the tipping point for many people to purchase items from the NG store. There will be more spam, but there already is a lot, and the moderators have it more than under control. Hell, it could be the cause for mods to remove more +1 posts than ever before due to suspicion of postwhoring due to medals.

11th April 2009 Roster (just imagine that that was the date)

Since I'm inexperienced with roster-crafting, there is bound to be a lot of fuckups in this, despite the fact that I've spent several hours on it. Since it's gone 1AM where I am, I won't have much time for fixing the errors. Since I did it on the Sunday, rather than the Saturday, the figures will be slightly fucked up, though.

Rank-Ups

Captain - Spartan204, SpiffyMasta

Lieutenant - Ninja-Without-Sight

Sergeant - The-Song-Salad
