Response to: How to change background with click Posted June 5th, 2011 in Game Development

You could have an MC with a different background on each frame and have the button change the frame of that MC when it's clicked.

I figured it out now. I just had to declare the array outside of the function. All is good now. Thank you for your persistence.

I have a function called makeLvl which goes through and makes a square, changes its location on the stage, and then places it. Then it pushes the object into idArray and repeats the process until all the squares are made. I tried accessing both those booleans (redSquare and blueSquare) from inside this function and it worked fine without using root or parent. Outside of the function, on the same frame of code, i can't access idArray. It's like because idArray was declared inside the function makeLvl, it can't be used anywhere else.

Ok, i just realized the problem is not referring to attributes inside the class (which works, so mission accomplished), but rather referring to the array outside of the function it was defined in. I tried using root.idArray and stage.idArray, but neither work and i'm too tired to figure it out right now.

Thanks again, man! :)

Response to: Referring to Moviecips by id Posted May 30th, 2011 in Game Development

Oh wow, the array worked this time. I must have been doing something stupid before. Thank you, sir!

If you could humor me one more question, is there any way to check attributes of an object of an external class? For instance, i have the external as3 file called Square and two boolean variables inside it called redSquare and blueSquare, so that i know the state a given object is in. My array of objects is called idArray, but the code:

txt3.text = "" + idArray[2].redSquare;

inside an onEnterFrame function is giving me the error "Access of undefined property idArray."

So, if i wanted to change the frame of a square with the name 3, i'd say 3.gotoAndStop(2)? I tried doing the MCs by array using the AS3:Main tutorial, but it wouldn't work, so i'd rather just do it this way.

I'm trying to make a game, kind of like whack-a-mole, which involves clicking red squares to make them blue again. I'm making all of the squares off of one class. I wanted to be able to refer to each square individually by some sort of id, so that i could have an array of ids. I know that MCs have a property, name, so i can set the names to something convenient like 0, 1, 2... and so on. The problem is, i don't know how to refer to an MC by its name (if that's even possible).

Anyone know what to do?

Words are the medium by which we express a feeling. If someone whose opinion you respect were to say something negative to you, it would have an effect. On the other hand, a person who is worthless to you shouldn't be able to offend you.

Words can have extreme power.

Probably because it's the only number which has the same amount of letters as its value.

Like what was somewhat mentioned before, when you take the offer, you do some sort of survey or offer, BUT you have to get 10 OTHER people to do that offer and THEN you get the cash/prize. I'm pretty sure there are some forums where you can pay other people say 20$ (example) and they would help you complete the 10 people you need to get to have completed the said offer. The reason why this method is so profitable is because these ads get paid a premium to get people to fill surveys. As we know from this thread, hardly anyone completes these offers which makes them so profitable. IF anyone could find 10 trustworthy friends, they could have a great time filling out every one of these.

Yea, lets just do a normal one, or it wont be part of this collab series. Maybe in a year or something we can make the 6th because then we would have more animating skills :P

Top 5 games and top 5 movies each get $250 a certificate and various other nice things (basically like a goodie bag :D). You can go to the news section and there will be a Best of <insert month here>! And you can just check those for the best ones. It also has runner ups past just top 5 if that interests you.

Actually, the noise itself was thunder, but it came from lightning, which is what you were asking earlier.

I think he wants you to post that you use MSN, I'm assuming from your Hotmail account.

Don't you think that this is a bit ironic? You know? Newbs trying to get better by helping out and getting help from other newbs?

Nah, the point of it is to try and mess around in flash with a partner so as to learn its tricks and learn how to get around, which is slower but better in my opinion than a newb with an expert. If you are a newb with an expert, you'll be confronted with too much material to learn and it won't be fun for the teacher whereas in this sitiuation, both parties learn and have together at the same time. :D
