Damn, that's a tight spot you're in but fear not.
I first started producing using a wonderful little tool called Acid Xpress its mostly used for remixing from what I can remember and the MIDI input/recording isn't my favourite thing in the world, but in you might as well use it whilist saving for a better program.
All in all its not bad, comes with some free WAV loops to mess around with and you can find tonnes more FREE and LEGAL loops just about anywhere. Keep in mind you'll want to move away from using premade loopsall the time, but they're not a bad start when you're learning the ropes of early production.
I started with ACID Xpress, moved onto FL Studio mainly for its built in keyboard and simple/plucky design and then Abelton, you need not feel compelled to do the same obviously.
All in all I reccomend:
Using ACID Xpress its free, simple and you can save and export your projects.
Downloading a few GB worth of samples to mess with to see if you have an ear for this sort of thing
Saving your cash for software with more versatility (FL Studio/Abelton)
Saving your cash for a MIDI controller (keyboard, drumpad etc)
Saving your cash for a good pair of headphones
Saving your cash for an Audio Box (these typically come with software as well)
This all depends on how serious you get into the whole thing, I got a pretty good set up going on right now in the long term this kind of hobby could cost you any where between 1500$-4000$ depends on what hardware and software you purchase as you go, you don;t need to worry about that right now though . Sorry for the ranting.
I'm currently looking for talented vocalists/MC's who might be interested in lending some of their talent.
I've just recently uploaded this:
Click to listen.
The bottom line is the track needs some vocals around 1:15 and 3:05 specifically, but I'm willing to hear you guys out if you have other ideas.
I don't know very many people who can sing/rap to dubstep beats but i know that its possible.
If you're looking for a few examples of how this is done take a look here
Thanks for your time.
PM me if you're interested.

Do you know what an LFO is?
Do you know what Frequency Modulation (FM) is?
Do you know what a filter is? (eg, High pass filter, low pass filter, state variable filter)
Do you know how to use a delay effect?
What synthesiser/VST's are you currently using?
What program do you use to make music?
These are just basic questions. Don't worry if you don't know any of 'em.
To my knowledge an LFO is a Low Frequency Oscillator, I believe it kind of makes the waveform wobble in one way or another. The higher the rate is turned up the faster the wobble, the higher the amount the more/larger the wave itself is. I'm not entirely sure.
I think I have a general understanding of the highpass/bandpass/lowpass filters, they pretty much determine what frequency (Hz?) the synth is in, highpass is normally used for leads, low pass for bass, bandpass for melodic synths and such - or at least thats how I used to use them.
I've messed with FM but I'm not entirely sure about it really.
I'm somewhat competent with delay effects, I typically use them to make certain synths more prominent or spacey/trippy
(listen to my track called Oculus, I used alot of delay and gate filters there)
I currently use Ultra Analog AA VST, Poizone, Massive, Albino, Vanguard aaaand... thats it really.
I use fruity loops studio 9 producer edition to create my music, I've messed around with rewiring it to Reason 5 but I'm still getting the hang of things.
Does anyone know where I can find some tutorials about the basics of VST's/Oscillators/Synthesizers
and how I can move away from using presets that come with them?
Basically I want to learn how to make synths from scratch. Know of any videos/websites that might help? Or can someone give me advice?
(sorry if that all seemed redundant)

I can always make a comedy track, send me a demo maybe we can work something out.
I'm currently looking for anyone who has some lyrical/vocal talent, specifically someone who can rap.
If you're interested send me a private message and reply to this thread for good measure. I wouldn't mind hearing what you're capable of as well. I don't post very many of my hip-hop beats here on newgrounds at the moment and I don't really want to link to a third party music hosting website.
Check my profile page for a link to my website or my signature at the bottom.
Thanks.
I'd like to join the review request club, here is the link to my audio reviews:

Thanks man, if I find one I'll be sure to contact you. If you know anyone capable animators don't hesitate to spread the word. :D
I created/remixed a song about a month or so ago and ever since I've been brainstorming some concepts for a music video for it, in the end I decided It would be interesting to have it animated.
Before you go reading on, here is the song:

Animators will have a great deal of -if not total- creative freedom on this project and may animate whatever they wish. The song is yours to interperate. With that being said - it would be nice if someone considered my ideas as well.
I've summarized my ideas regarding the overall concept and i've tried to keep it fairly open to everyone's interpretation. I dont want anyone feeling too constrained should they choose to use my ideas as guidelines.
Setting Summary :A lush, forest abundant in trees and shrubs. The forest would have several surreal elements such as electric outlets sticking out of tree trunks and radio antennae growing along side tree branches.
Story Summary: A feminine android descends from the sky and into the forest where she begins searching for the grave of a long dead/deactivated loved one. Throughout this surreal journey she experiences a few technical difficulties which cause her to relive several jumbled and intertwined memories at once, an image of a trinket or symbol is prevalent thoughout these memory lapses. The story concludes with the android discovering the grave and leaving an object resembling the symbol in her memory lapses.
This is the general idea, I understand it might be a bit vague or perhaps too detailed for some - as I said, I'm pretty flexible. If you're interested send me a private message, leave a post on here too if you feel the need to - I'll be checking back regularly.

If the Dubstep remixes aren't allowed thats cool, although Oculus is my baby :D
You're not really supposed to advertise on the forum, there's already a thread for that.
I've made the mistake of doing this before mind you, no hard feelings.
Hmm yeah I think I got something along those lines... we'll have to see

I dont have an ASIO soundcard - and im not sure what DAW stands for to be honest,
I've been considering moving onto using Protools or Sonar however I can't say my laptop's specs are up to snuff. Hell I'm not even sure if they're good enough with fruity loops. I wanted to create productions involving VSTs like Massive or Albino, but I constantly get popping noises, I know how to deal with those (adjusting the buffer rate) but I'd rather not have to anymore...
My Specs are as follows:
Model: Inspiron 1545
Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo CPU 2.13Ghz
RAM:6.00GB
OS: Windows 7 x64 (64 bit I assume)
Soundcard:IDT High Definition Audio CODEC
Ultimately my question is this:
1.Are the specs shown above, good enough to work with Protools/Sonar with minimal difficulties?
2. What about using Massive or Albino? (and other high quality VSTs)
3. If these specs arent good enough, what kind of laptop should I look for? I'm open in regards to PC n mac
Problem solved,
I decided to convert all the MP3's into OGG files, the size isnt much larger and the quality can be improved or stay the same, its no big hassle in the larger spectrum either.
Anyway thanks for the help offered, I appreciate your efforts.
If you want to see some of the sampling work I was talking about, check it out:
:( Still haveing the same problem even after resetting my settings, reinstalling and everything!
At 11/25/10 11:05 PM, Kaizerwolf wrote: For future questions about FL Studio, shove those suckers right HERE!
Now, to your question. Try to drag your sample onto the Playlist. This SHOULD work in creating an audio clip on the pattern selector that can be previewed. If not, there might be an encoding issue with the MP3 you're trying to insert. Have you tried any other MP3 files?
I've tried virtually every MP3 file on my computer, Iv even purposely converted WAV's to MP3's just to see if it would work. Nothing. It says the sound is there and has its name and everything - but the sounds doesnt play and the're no waveform to show that its there (like how it looks in edison)
I have windows 7 x64 and just installed FL studio 9 producers edition. I've used it on XP without any problems, but as of now I've run into one major setback on windows 7 - importered MP3's do not play or have any audio of any kind.
Basically I create an Audio Clip channel and browse my computer for an MP3 file, when I select the file it doesnt even preview its sound. And when I do import it, there's no waveform showing how the sound looks in the channel information window.
Everything else imports properly except for MP3 files. I really like FL, but I do a lot of sampling/remixes - so the fact this doesnt work is a huge problem. I tried working around the problem by converting the MP3's into WAVs, but those files get too large and slow down FL Studio's memory.
Is there anything I can do to fix this?
Thanks for your time guys.
I'm looking for a song with some rough piano with relatively low - but not too low - notes.
Even if its not from newgrounds, if anyone can help me out it would be greatly appreciated - PM me with a response, or post here.

Hey there guys, I've been composing/mixing a few rap beats here and there and I'd like to hear how they sound with some lyrics. If anyone out there has any lyrical talent with decent flow I was hoping they could give me an acapella to work with, either from new grounds or another source, I'm not picky.
Just send me a private message if you're interested. I don't post my rap beats on new grounds unless they have vocals/lyrics from a new grounds artist with them.
If you'd like to get an idea of what I'm capable of you can check my hip-hop/rap beats here
