Hey, what do you do when you feel like a miserable sack of potatoes?
You draw yourself like a miserable sack of potatoes. Obviously.
It might even help! Also drawing and painting bags under eyes is fun. In a sad way.
Ohhh, awesome! This is a theme with almost endless possibilities, neat.
Also, super glad I made it through to the final round ^^ Congrats to everyone who made it through, and everyone who participated.
It looks great, J-qb! A shitload of kudos to you.
For the next-to-last round of AVAT. It's mediocre at best, but I lost my wacom pen (still haven't found it goddamnit) so I had to start again on paper. Sucks.
Splort.
I'm not proud of this one. I lost my wacom pen this morning so I was forced to (re)start the whole thing on paper this time, and tweak as good as I could afterwards. It'll have to do anyway.
If it isn't clear, I reversed the idea of an alien attack, making humans the invading species with mostly scientific purposes. But yeah, it'll probably look rather suspicious if you're the native.
Oh, I'm really happy with the slight change. I hope a lot of people can still submit their entries in time this time, me included.
Thank you, Mister Turkey Sir.
Last one of that evening, again music-based. I had to adjust the levels in this one, otherwise it would have been only half visible.
These aren't the only ones I made, but the rest isn't very interesting. And I think this amount of uploads will do for now anyway..
Man, I love that song so much.
Oh, and the stuff that 'shines' through the previous page is what the dancing guy drew in my sketchbook.
This was just out of my head, to the music. Meh.
'Nother one.
For those who a at a bit of a loss after reading what I wrote down, they were playing Oh la la la, and the singer's pronunciation of "c'est magnifique" is rather funny.
The dancing guy later drew something in my sketchbook, haha.

Thanks! Well, the pencils are a mix. Some of the colours were really soft, like the black I used. The dark brown and reddish brown were a bit more 'scratchy', but that has a nice feel too.
Here's another one, spread over two pages. Heh, having a pool table in a bar always makes it nicer.
Oh. So that was yesterday's time.
...
Crapsicles.
Well, anyway, too bad. And yeah, I too can get really confused with the weird american time zones. Buhhh.
...
Wait. I'm confused. It says '11:59 PM'. I'm not good with the American timing-thing, but doesn't that mean.. 1 minute to midnight? Doesn't that also mean we still have half a day or am I just missing something/everything?
... Wait, what? That's not right! I thought we had untill this evening?
Oh noooooo
Goddamnit, I'm so sorry, and very angry at myself now. For fuck's sake, how is this even possible. I've put such an effort in my previous entries, I really wanted to make something nice and then to make a stupid mistake like this.. Augh I could punch myself right now.
This one's a bit strange, but meh, it's funny too.
Well, that's it for this evening. I'm hitting the sack. I'll upload some more tomorrow, while pausing from working on my AVAT-thing.
Oh man! It's so damn late (almost ten to bloody three at night), but I still wanted to upload a thing or two before I went to bed.
This evening I went to Kid's Rhythm 'n' Blues Café in Antwerp on my own. To draw (drunk) people in their natural habitat. Also, I really like the music there, which inspired me to make some music-themed drawings which will come up later on. But like I said, it's goddamn late so I'm going to keep it short for tonight.
This was a good experience and I think I'll repeat it, even though I have gotten some weird looks. Interested looks and a bit of a chat here and there too, so that's no problem.
Here's one of the first sketches I did! Conté pencils, and happy with them.

Wait, what?
Okay, I read it again and the top five will do one more round.. Even though they've already won?
This is just confusing and weird now.
Anyway, I'm feeling a little demotivated and haven't even started but I'll probably still poop something out in time.
Oh, almost forgot this one. Entry for Chow #46 'The Alchemist'. I thought I'd do a rather strange interpretation of that concept and ended up with an ugly female drugdealer. Or something.
To be honest I thought the thing was a bit crap, but looking at the votes, people seem to like it.
.. Fat Jesus is wrong? Seriously?
Lawl. Here's mine.
(Or doesn't this count, since Jesus and him are the same person? Kind of.)
Just letting you know that the chances of me contributing are becoming smaller and smaller. I'm actually pretty busy this weekend and I don't think I'll have time to squeeze out a comic.
Apologies.

This is a collage, not an illustration, if you want to see what a illustration is go to Conceptart.org
I see an illustration most often as a piece of visual art normally accompanied with or in relation to a piece of text or a story, or that replaces a piece of text because an illustration there is more clear (see for instance manuals for a lot of things).
So a collage can just as well be an illustration as anything else can, in my opinion.
(This is the actual Morthagg, not Breaktroll this time, just to be sure)
This site is made by assholes for assholes (I'm not saying I'm not. :3). So it's best not to use your brain to much here.
Just agree with what the regulars tell you, or they'll make 5 parody threads which get 20 times more popular than the one you posted.
And as to the question if your piece was illustration. I'd say yes, illustration is more than just drawing or painting. However I get the feeling most people on this site are a bit more conservative to when things are 'good' or 'art' or whatever.
However the thing you posted did hurt my eyes a little. And I don't know if the pictures you used where your own. So I guess that almost no one in the art portal would like it.
...
Crapsicles. I don't think this theme is really up my alley, let alone I'll make something of it better than my previous entry. I'm a little bummed out that I could have made something with a lot less effort and still have gone through though.. I'm happy for everyone, obviously, but it still feels like a bit of a sour and silly round to me, to be honest.
Anyway, I also came here to tell that I'm leaving on vacation monday, so my piece for this round will probably be in quite late.
But good luck to everyone!
Very quick thing I drew. It's rather crappy, but I thought it was a good last use of the cintiq I have to leave behind when I quit working at the studio.
So here, my unattractive, female, drugdealing alchemist.
(dump)
Oh yeah, if you want a comic with a complicated layout, an intriguing atmosphere, intelligent (though sometimes confusing) themes and beautiful but extremely time-consuming graphics which makes for a comic that only updates once every few months..
Dresden Codak for you, my friend.

i along with other artists are awaiting judgement.
What's the point of having judges if you can just ignore them.. You can't really have 'propper' judgement until every vote is counted, right. Methinks it can make a hell of a difference.
Well, the first comic I think of that's rather serious and has for instance a good 'real comicbook' layout instead of a different, wider layout that webcomics often have is FreakAngels. The comic recently came to an end, but I suggest you read it. It isn't exactly action packed, but it has its share. If you want good, consistent, serious an clear, FreakAngels can be a good example.
Haha, these were actually better than I expected.
Since I'm done with requesting abstract concepts that never get drawn.. Draw me a scubadiving bear who's about to spear a sea urchin.
Erm, you could buy a bamboo too, of course. But if you plan on studying something artsy that thing is not going to do anymore, I'm afraid. I would just go for something decent than can be used for fun as well as professional stuff right away, if I could spare the money.
And indeed, a cintiq might be a rather stupid buy since a lot of art colleges have their own, like J-qb stated.
