Yeah, I'm kinda curious about that too.. I host my collabs with no cost whatsoever.

we were kidding, guys :)

awesome! can't wait to see them. did anyone else get the skinny gap? :O

Response to: The 5 Hour Collab Ii Posted June 7th, 2008 in Game Development

k, its sent.

its not really about the awards though guys. I mean, this is a time trial collab. it's meant to demonstrate we can animate, quickly.

if anything, if I was an artist who got a daily sixth to a 5 hour collab after working for maybe like, a month on something, where as they spent five hours, I'd be fustrated.

the way I see it, the more time trial collabs that dont win awards, the more people respect the collab scene. Too long have people written in dismay about lame (not to say this one was, it was great) collabs winning awards, and thats really a shame.

at the end of the day, we made something cool that shows off our talents, something that people appreciate for what it is. While NG awards are nice, they aren't the only thing to go for and that needs to be remembered.

+1 Skill points to all who participated, all the parts were great. Gratz to nick for formatting the thing and making it look classy.

I'll definitely be here for the next one too nick :)

wait a minute... is that really a word?! :O

syzygy
noun ( pl. -gies) Astronomy
a conjunction or opposition, esp. of the moon with the sun : the planets were aligned in syzygy.
a pair of connected or corresponding things : animus and anima represent a supreme pair of opposites, the syzygy.

cool. +1 to Rammer for language skills.

I think the idea of an actionscript lipsyncing engine is awesome, it would be really cool if someone took the time to do it. I might have time this summer to meddle, but I don't know how to lipsync all that well so I probably wouldnt be the guy for it. cool concept tho.

BATTLE OF THE COLLABS

Response to: The Food Collab! Posted June 6th, 2008 in Game Development

haha, I think I might call it a pomegranate just so I can have it explode with those awesome seeds. but pomegranates dont have green leaves on them :O thats why I thought it was an apple. But hey! Might as well let people choose for themselves. Choose your own adventure, fruit style!

thanks for the support. Frameslinger, I'll detract the needle. will do. promise. :)

marky, I've worked in that 'harder than it looks' style a lot, (surface texture) and I think you've got a stage full of patterns and you're using masks to show the areas you see the patterns in for the final product. but its just one pattern, correct? Yeah, thats rather time consuming.

One alternative would be to put the characters in movieclips in which they're drawn with the texture, and then in the main timeline, change the alpha and the tint. Unless thats what you're already doing. Hmm.

but yeah that'll save you some time.

I vow to learn how to lip sync. Its always been something I've been uncomfortable with as an artist, and I see everyone else doing it seemingly easily, so yeah, thanks JMTB, great thread!

To be co-authored your name has to begin with Mo and end in -rrowdays, sorry everyone other than me! Haha kidding. Its really just people who are all round nice. You know, the team players. usually co-authors aren't given to people aiming to get a co-author, thats another thing to think about.

So if you're like, hmm, I want a co-author! I should help out in the thread/make a few good parts(!), then it'll probably show and thats not what you want.

The weirdest thing about it is that its the people who are in it for the true collaboration between artists who get the co slots, so the people who want co-authors have to like, trick themselves into not caring about the co-author spots, and then it gets very confusing. I dunno. Im going to stop now. :)

clarkit, your signature takes up half the screen, you should fix that. other things to do are to neaten up the lipsync and the characters and add a background. its coming along but some work still needs to be done.
