Maybe doing it the way you're thinking isn't the best if you're planning on having ridiculously long levels like this, but you can split them all into different .swf's and then put them together in the end, I've seen that done before. Since it breaks the 16,000 frame limit.
Yah I just realized that
if there's a bossfight at the end of the level, which is probably going to take some time to defeat (thus the 5 minutes), I can simply have it in one keyframe. I'll stop the animation in that keyframe and when the boss is defeated, the levelanimation continues playing.
Actually, i could use that in every wave of enemies. The background will keep on scrollin but there wouldnt be a new frame(with a new wave of enemies) until the previous ones have been defeated or have flown out of the screen.
Would that be a better way of doing it?
Aand i could lower the fps rate

I get ya
Im probably going to have pretty complicated 'movieclip inside a movieclip inside a movieclip ...' structure anyway since its the only way i know. The scrip will aslo most likely to be chopped into tiny pieces and spread around the movieclip spiderweb rather than to have a 'engine' or a cript that controls the whole game from one place
Is there a 'traditional' way of doing levels?
Im pretty much self thaught on flash and actionscripting so i dont have a clue how others make their games
and is the FPS going to be a problem when making the 'level animation' and the spawning keyframes? cause with 100 fps a five minute level will have 30 000 frames (?)
maybe ill just cut the levels in smaller pieces, checkpoints or something..
any thoughts?
I'm designing a sidescrolling space shooter game
but im not too experienced in Actionscripting
soo i was wondering what would be the best way of seperating different levels, timing enemy appearances, bosses, etc.
I thought i could have a scene per level
and just use keyframes whenever enemy appears so that when a new enemy should appear there would be a keyframe with a code to duplicate the enemy on the screen. And when the enemy is on the screen the 'AI' would take over (sorry if the explanation is confusing. ill post pics if needed).
i havent tried it out yet and im not convinced tha it would be the best way of doing it
especially if the FPS is around 100 id have like a gazillion frames per level (right?)
if you get what im trying to explain, please, tell me if thats even worth trying
and if theres a better way of doing it.
thanks in advance
Yeah I've been listening 8bitpeoples for a while now. Their music is awesome!!
Another good band is The Depreciation Guild. They mix 8bit with some guitar goodness. Definitely worth checking out. They have a whole albut for on theirr site for free!
I tried the Famitracker. It seems promising but it'll probably take me a while to get used to.
I, myself am not too bound to the rules of the traditional chiptune music. For example the electrict guitar seems to fit 8bit perfectly.
Anyway thanks for the links and stuff everyone!
I'm a sucker for 8-bit and chiptune music and for a long time I've wanted to create it myself.
But I'm clueless where to start :O
If you could post some links, sources, communities, forums, tutorials, etc.
whatever to get me started and help anyone in the same situation as me
muchly appreciated
Yeah
Ha Ha im laughing so hard
as if i've never tried that
