That's what I'm asking you.
It seems to be the consensus, however, that the anus is an instrument.

I would suggest Ableton's Live, actually.
It's pricey in comparison, but more user-friendly, with a very gentle, rewarding learning curve.

Oohh. I understand now. Thanks.
I would do an external/complex internal route to another computer/program like audacity, and record like that.
I don't know your setup and resources, so I can't help, sorry.

Wait.. what? Please be more specific. Are you sitting at your computer with an acoustic guitar and a microphone, are you re-recording pre-recorded audio at line level?
Why do you need to mute/unmute the peak controller?
These are all crucial to helping you.
(Also, try using the master record button, and choosing audio, into the arrangement view.)

Okay, I get what you're saying. If it uses physics to create the sound?
the fact is: this makes no sense in my opinion, why do you need this separation? if you just want an opinion, mine is: everything can be used to make "music" (note the "s). but you can't compare a flute to a computer, can you?
I actually disagree with you here.
Do you think that an analog synthesizer is a computer?
I actually prefer the pure square/sine wave of an oscillator to the breathy sound of a flute.
We don't need this separation, it's only a question of opinion. No one is going to say "Oh, these are not instruments, and they are now not valid for making music."

I'm trying to live record a song in Edison. The song is about 5.5 minutes long. The issue is that whenever I record more than 5 minutes in Edison, it will keep recording but it will cut off the start of the song, which means when I m done recording, the first half minute of the song is missing. Is there a way to solve this? (Other than making my song shorter cuz I'm definately not doing that.)
What exactly are you recording?
This was my fix before switching to Ableton Live:
- Export Instrumental as .mp3
- Import Instrumental.mp3 into Audacity (Free)
- Use Audacity to record vocals/instrument over Instrumental
- Delete Instrumental, left with only the recording
- Export recording to .wav
- Import .wav into FL project as Audio Clip.
I know it's only a work-around, but I couldn't stand either of FL's recording methods.
At 2/8/13 10:50 AM, Lachi wrote: well it's about the same thing (in my opinion).
if you mean the "musical instrument", then obviously no, the computer isn't one. flute, piano, these are instruments. but if you intend "musical tool" then you can say everything is a musical tool.
There's your opinion, computers are not music instruments.
No need for all the vulgarity and immaturity, is there?
What about, say, a digital piano?
It's technically a computer. But is it also not an instrument? Just a tool?

I don't mean on the listeners level. I'm talking about on the artists level, style/genres are completely irrelevant.
At 2/8/13 10:17 AM, Schleif wrote: well, any tool or device capable of producing music is an instrument. so technically, a computer is an instrument, like any other.
Perhaps I should specify a little,
A musical instrument, as in a tool of emotional expression, etc.

I need some peopleoutside of the acoustic rock/indie genre to give me feedback on this track.
Tell me, hardstyle fans and house bros, how do you feel about the harmonies and rhythms of this track, independent of genre?
Just a soft 4/4T tune.

Not a worry. The list you're looking at is obsolete. There's a different un-scouted artists list that only scouted artists can see.
I don't know why that one hasn't been removed, but it hasn't. So you know, whatever.
I saw this post earlier, and it got me thinking.
Can't they be original? I mean I don't think those dubstep songs are made by instruments but you allow those.
What do you guys think? Where does instrument end and computer begin?
Anything that isn't acoustic?
Anything that's in an arpeggiator?
Anything that's made with a computer?
Anything that is a preset in FL Studio?
Personally, I think that as long as the musician is playing through a physical median (be it a midi keyboard or upright bass) then it's still expressive music, and I would call the VST or sound in the computer in conjunction with the interface an 'Instrument'. I don't even hold that it's not 'real' if they use "preset" sounds.
Although I'd never use those. Eww.
Abstract, House, Minimal, pop.

Not entirely what you're looking for, I think, but looking into new styles is awesome or something.

I remember reading them say that it's likely that FL Studio will never be ported to Mac, unless it became as globally popular as other DAWs and Image-Line started rolling in money. The problem is that the whole structure of the program would have to be re-made, as it relies on the Windows things.
Or something like that.
I use Ableton Live, which is fully Mac compatible. Not the same as Fruity Loops, but as an ex-FL user, I fell in love with it.
