Do you need controllers/faders+knobs or not?

Response to: Audio Portal Submission Posted May 16th, 2011 in Audio

It was either declined due to copyright infringement or otherwise overlooked for some reason.

When your music is credited in a flash movie, the options aren't removed. You're just not able to use it.

I tried looking for a video of this guy attempting to run crysis on very high with an old 800mhz Celeron so I could post it here, but I COULDN'T FUCKING FIND IT :<

Not really... a really good DJ controller is fun, but nothing is the same as dropping the needle and feeling the vinyl beneath your fingertips. Solid gold, man.

Still doing that dick drawing thing!

except tonight's was kinda shit. fuck.

Deckadance is also pretty good, there's a free trial of that too.

Response to: The Audio Forum Lounge Posted May 14th, 2011 in Audio

I updated from 1.6 to 1.8 and didn't really notice a huge difference in sound or interface but maybe I'm going crazy!

Have you considered VST emulations? ABL and Phoscyon are both really good!

Response to: Working in a music store... Posted May 13th, 2011 in Audio

I worked in a really shitty music store when i was 16 and spent about an hour every day tuning guitars :V

Selling stuff was funny though. Making up reasons either as to why you should buy this really expensive product or why these shitty cheap things are actually good and you should buy 3 of them.

Options > General Settings > Enable Legacy Pattern Blocks

You're better off just learning to live without them though, because even this option will disappear in future versions.

Response to: Best Way To Record A Piano? Posted May 13th, 2011 in Audio

In what way do you think that your sound could be better? I think it has a nice mellow tone but I guess maybe you're picking up too much hammer and you probably need to get it re-tuned to get it sounding optimal.

Response to: Sound design with pads Posted May 13th, 2011 in Audio

When you say snap to frequencies, do you mean in the same way an old moog ladder filter works?

Response to: Best Way To Record A Piano? Posted May 13th, 2011 in Audio

One time I had to mic up a piano for a live recording at a venue which was pretty much a warehouse, and in a pinch I stuck a 58 inside a yamaha upright piano, sitting above about C7 and facing towards middle C. I'm pretty sure I wasn't doing it the right way, but it sounded fantastic.

On the other hand, I recorded a grand piano in a small concert hall using a large-diaphragm condenser (Rode NT1-A), just standing a metre or so from the piano and facing the lid. Again, no idea what I was doing, but it sounded great.

i don't really know anyone per se... i've lurked a little and submitted a lot of audio and know a bit of the AP drama and politics but yeah i'm pretty much nobody still! :)

Layer a few sounds together, acoustic and electronic sounds too. They don't even have to all be kick sounds. Just as long as you get woof, punch and click.

If you want to quickly change all the channels in your project to MIDI outs, go to Tools>Macros>Prepare for MIDI export. Do not overwrite your project after doing this.

YES exactly! I didn't know it at the time, but it was the sound that defined my childhood :P

Also about the 303, I am definitely a lucky bastard because it was given to me for free by my ex's dad. It's a cool story bro, but maybe for another time.

Response to: Hoover sample set [free DL] Posted May 12th, 2011 in Audio

I like using sampled softsynth patches for that old-school rave/hardcore sound; The way a sampled synth changes in tone with the pitch on an old sampler is gorgeous imo.
