Response to: Are DJ's useless/talentles s? Posted May 23rd, 2011 in Audio

Even a lot of club DJs who take themselves seriously are pretty dreadful. I can't tell you how many times I've heard guys drop songs without matching the beats or pitch and even a couples guys who would drop a track really suddenly on top of the middle of another track without warning and on the wrong bar/beat a couple times.

So I guess what I'm saying is that if you're a shitty DJ then automatic beat matching doesn't suddenly make you good.

If you have the permission of the copyright owners OR the music you used was released under a CC license that didn't include "Share-Alike" or "No Derivatives" then it wouldn't be against the rules.

Well, what program do you use to make music? When you go to export an mp3 file there should be an option for the bitrate when you're creating the file and it'll usually look like "256kbits" or "192Kbits" or something.

In any case, there's no harm in waiting until your first submissions are approved until uploading a new one.

Response to: Help? Posted May 22nd, 2011 in Audio

I get this sometimes too. I don't know what it is, but when it happens to me I render a new mp3 with different settings (slightly lower bitrate specifically) and a different file name and it seems to work.

I heard santabro was a bit of a ponce!

I gotta say, even with my submission finished, there are a couple of entries that really make me fear for my chances.

I hate to be pedantic, but "3/3" is written as 9/8, although it would indeed be conducted as three dotted crotchet beats ;)

Love that routine.

The way I feel about Massive is that it does everything you could ever want it to, but it does so without soul. Lots of people love how it sounds though so maybe I'm just picky or too attached to my trusty old synth collection :<

Response to: Do You Use Midi Pads? Posted May 20th, 2011 in Audio

I use a bit of external MIDI stuff.

VX8 master keyboard
Bitstream 3X
Korg nanoKEY
and a Rock Band drumkit (mapped with mijoy)

The bitstream is my favourite investment so far because it has SYNC24 out for my 303. I'm in the market for an old Yamaha SHS-10 keytar, for stylish MIDI input.

okay so yeah you actually are, I didn't read the whole post because all I saw was QQ QQ QQ QQ QQ.

Anyway you shouldn't be worried man, his music really doesn't speak volumes of experience. No doubt that it's sounds good, but it's not "complete" or "mature". I can't really describe what it should sound like, but it involves a lot more understatement... I think...

I've heard it said that, as musicians, we reach our peak or "prime" at the age of 60. All of us have a long way to go.

the original author of that song is cool with you doing this, right?

Response to: FLStudio10, dynamic speed variation Posted May 19th, 2011 in Audio

STEP ONE: drag and drop an mp3 file from the browser or windows explorer into the playlist (thing window with the "Tracks")

STEP TWO: Open up the channel in the Step Sequencer (the window withe the steps where you make PHAT BEATS YO).

THREEEEE: Right click the TIME knob, and select AutoDetect.

VIER: from the massive menu that appears now, select "140 (Project)". If the number isn't 140 it means you changed the project tempo, but it doesn't matter.

5: Now when you press play and move the project tempo around, the song speed and pitch will change in correspondence with the. To set the change in stone, you have to "automate" the tempo. There are a few ways to do this: you can record the tempo changes you make manually, you can right click the tempo selector and create an automation clip which will appear in the playlist where you can mess around with dot points and curves and stuff, or you can right click the tempo and select "Edit Events and then edit the automation precisely but it's really fiddly and probably not worth the trouble for this situation.

ROKU: When you're happy with the automation, go all the way up to the top left and select File>Export>MP3 file. Tell it where you want the file to be saved then just click the start button or whatever it's called on the next window that pops up, and then it should start to look like this. Now you're done! Woohoo! Awesome.

Response to: Fake Downloads? Posted May 18th, 2011 in Audio

Someone probably posted a direct link to the mp3 file on another popular site/blog. A direct link will affect the download counter, but not the listens.

I'm so sick of my song that I'll probably not finish it properly, but I'll definitely upload SOMETHING before the 22nd :)

I won't stop making music until I stop enjoying it. Then I'll eventually stop enjoying not making music and start making it again.
