A friend of mine had a Hartke combo for his bass and it sounded suh-weeeeeeeeet. Is that a tenor 5-string, Knox? I'm too blind and tired to tell from the picture.

I use my brother's cheapo squire starter bass which actually sounds okay with fresh strings and after it's been mixed! I lowered the action a whole lot because a) I'm a chump b) I play a lot of high stuff and (gasp) chords! and c) I'm a chump.

Bro's moving out and selling his bass in a month, will have to go buy a new one. I'm on the lookout for a tenor 5 with a lot of frets ;)

Pretty much! It's prevalent throughout the entire DMC and MGS series.

I can't think of any bands that sound just like this, but The Madcapsule Markets and Atari Teenage Riot probably get kinda close... Maybe?

Reason's not something that you should change to on account of the absolute worst sequencer in any DAW ever (imo). The best thing about reason is that you can run it inside FL or Cubase or whatever using ReWire and add the functionality and strength of Reason's synths, effects and patching to your current setup. If that makes sense...

MilkyTracker is niiice. I think FamiTracker is more feature-filled, but idk if Milky lets you export into NSF format or use VRC6 and VRC7 instruments.

Response to: Ask your FruityLoops questions here Posted June 25th, 2011 in Audio

Also instead of using the channel pan you should probably just use the panning in the mixer track, because that panning will happen AFTER any effects, whereas the channel panning happens BEFORE.

Response to: Ask your FruityLoops questions here Posted June 25th, 2011 in Audio

That's an event on channel panning, so make sure the signal isn't being bounced to mono later in the chain (e.g. the stereo separation knob in the mixer).

Then check all the obvious stuff like making sure the pattern that the event is in is actually placed in the playlist, that the playlist track isn't disabled etc.

Response to: My fingers are retarded D: Posted June 24th, 2011 in Audio

You could always try some Hanon exercises if you get in front of a real piano and find that it is your fingers that are the problem. They're a series of increasingly difficult exercises developed specifically to improve separation between each finger. and doing Hanon in conjunction with scales during your practice will vastly speed up your improvement.

My problem is that every time I want to make tutorials I end up having no idea what people want to know.

Either that, or what they want to know is something really dumb and vague e.g. LOL HOW DO I MAKES DUBSTEP

you see where i am going with this?

also, I think you might want to give more detail on the animation itself...what the idea is. maybe even come up with a rough version

Well, when it's already been said that the project is an advertisement for a "device for use in buck hunting and trapping" to be aired on the "Outdoors channel", you can probably use your brain to figure out the kind of orchestral music that would be appropriate. In terms of instrumentation, "Orchestral" is a very clear term ;)

But yeah, I'd assume that anyone who takes on this job should be given a silent version of the ad to base the score and sound effects off of.

That's wonderful logic. What's next? You gonna go shit on someones coffin in the middle of their funeral and say, "Don't worry, I'm gay, that makes this ok." ?

I don't side with Chron on this issue, but that I've never seen someone formulate a response so poorly. Using a slippery slope argument against a strawman doesn't help your case at all.

Our local bowling alley has it on their video jukebox which plays songs and music videos that show up on a huge screen in front of all the lanes and blares out of massive speakers. When our circle of friends go there someone always ends up dropping about 10 dollars in it as we're leaving and programming it so it plays Rick Astley non-stop for everybody to appreciate

OH man I just noticed you mentioned the JX-3P, which I own. They really do sound fantastic but programming is a bit annoying without a PG-200 (which is impossible to find! D:)... Mine wont even edit patches at all anymore for some reason, need to get that and my 303 serviced.

I meant in the sense that it was virtual analog and the oscillators were based on the SH-101 but yeah i was just basing that on what i heard about it AGES ago and having listened to demos of it it's pretty run of the mill digital stuff. Sounds better than a microkorg, at least.

I thought Blofelds were more expensive, too! I might grab one if I need a new toy at some point but I was also thinking of getting a tetra or mopho.

Some subtle modulations and automation would be nice, let alone builds/breakdowns lol. 6 patterns for 8 mins is acceptable once you account for a DJ friendly intro/outro but it would need to be very catchy and have a lot of evolving automations. This is a pretty good example of what I mean, but a lot of the songs from Daft Punk's first album also match this description imo.

Response to: What Stupid Cunt... Posted June 18th, 2011 in Audio

Wait, sorry, I was thinking of the 1932 film Hell's House. Hell's Angels is still owned by United Artists (and, by association, MGM), so it's not actually public domain. Bummer!
I still don't think people should be banned for using samples from movies that are public domain, though!

Response to: What Stupid Cunt... Posted June 18th, 2011 in Audio

Pretty much! And yeah I know "You are making the legal claim that this is your own work", but there's literally no difference between someone using VEC3 samples and this. Except that one person is in the clear because they paid for a license and the other person is in the clear because nobody can own the copyright to the samples to begin with.
