You would need a version with the vocals and a version without the vocals (The instrumental). But that's usually quite hard to find.

if its just one sectiom of the track with vocals and there's another section that's identical but without vocals you can do it

more trouble than it's worth? probably!

phwoar, old school!

i tried to learn adlib tracker but it was really intense. been wanting to learn impulse/schism tracker though i haven't found the time. i still have fruityloops 3.5 so i guess that counts for something right?

btw @nineonine dont make threads that just link to your stuff even if you just want to start a discussion. use the advertising thread to spew links in please.

not by itself, though i guess if NG is the first place it gets posted then that would help. having the project files and keeping multiple (i.e. unfinished) versions of the work is much more important when it comes to proving ownership.

I never really bother with protecting my music although its something important to think about .

protecting your copyright is always your prerogative anyway, if you catch someone ripping off your shit then you need to take initiative and be the one to sort it out (unless you've got a legal team i guess haha)

At 12/29/14 09:16 PM, dem0lecule wrote: YESSS! Finally we can have submissions that contain samples!!! The grumpy AP mods no longer have their chances to perma ban newcomers and hiphop artists. CHANGE 2015!

well, people have always been able to use chopped up famous breakbeats and microsample stuff, and rappers have always been allowed to use other people's beats if they came from NG or if they could demonstrate that they had permission. at the end of the day we don't make the rules; if people want to flog a riff from a rick james song or rap over one of lex luger's beats then NG isn't the place for them.

At 12/29/14 11:16 PM, KyleRoberts wrote: What if the user submits a work and lies about the details in the form? What sort of repercussions are there? The project gets deleted when the original creator of the work comes forward?

business as usual: submission is deleted, user possibly banned, and the copyright owner can choose to pursue the matter further.

it's probably something like the acapella patch from the roland stage pianos (e.g. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AEhwibV5WaY&t=212) but pitched up in post.

you might be able to isolate the sound from the recording with phase cancellation if there's a part which is the same as the vocal bit but without the vocals... if that makes sense?

i feel like choosing "contains samples i do not own the rights to" should void the creative commons and open project license options. they seem mutually exclusive, i suppose?

this is cool but i guess the main concern is that everyone using it needs to understand exactly what all the options mean and how they relate to thier work, and i think there's still a lot of AP users who either don't get it or don't give a shit. in the end it's still up to the rest of the world to respect the licenses provided, but this could be very empowering to the majority of people who want to do the right thing.

Response to: Why are Films scored after Editing? Posted 7 days ago in Audio

look at it this way: why dont actors do their ADR first and then lip sync when on set?

there are some specific instances where you might want to do this, but 99% of the time it's easier to do it the right way around.

doing the score after the edit is harder for the composer, but way easier for the editors, director, cinematographer, actors and basically everyone else.

I already thought of perhaps doing it the way you explained, but I really want to just fool around on my keyboard with the sample file and being able to play all my 49 keys. Might be indeed just impossible, because maybe it'd be too hard for Fl to render every note in the same tempo. Anyway, here's my first encounter of Fl studio being too limited for what I want to produce. Never thouht that would happen, though ;p
FL Studio indeed is one of the few DAWs (if not the only one) that isn't able to do this, yes. If it really is a main concern, you're better off using another DAW.

open the file in fruity granulizer, go to the sampler tab (SMP) and then set the TIME knob to however long the loop is meant to be (e.g. 1 bar, 2 bars etc.). default granulizer preset will do exactly what you need it to.

FL is great!

Response to: What's your opinion on Vaporwave? Posted 1 month ago in Audio

the aesthetic is already kinda played out at a superficial level but yeah some of the music is pretty sweet.
imo it's kinda hard to pin down what vaporwave should really sound like cause there's a lot of crossover with chillwave and seapunk.

Response to: how do u organise your samples? Posted 1 month ago in Audio

usually organised by pack, although i have my electronic drums sorted by machine.
i generally hate having separate folders for kicks/snares/hats/etc, especially if it's foldered like this inside the pack

maybe one guy actually thought your song was shit

there's probably way less systematic zero votes nowadays but everyone still attributes their low scores to "zero bombing" instead of people's legitimate opinions

For example, a violin holds the note C and comes in from quiet to loud but without using the volume controls?

This guy explains the question better:
http://www.futureproducers.com/forums/hardware-software/software/daw-sequencers-samplers-software/automating-note-velocities-fl-studio-10-a-414229/

change the attack time in the envelope for that sound.

if you need one note to have a long attack and the others to be more stabby you can duplicate the channel and change the envelope, then split your score ovwr the two channels

another thing you can try is using a slide note if it's a sampler channel (or any other FL native plugin). you can set the note velocity to 0, put a slide note right on top of it and set the slide velocity to whatever volume and you'll get a fade in. slide notes don't affect notes that are played after them, so you can do tricky stuff like put a slide note in a tiny gap in a strummed chord so one note of the chord fades in or out. fun stuff!

do you just plug your cans into a line-in on your compy or are they USB or something?

either your speakers are fucked or the soundcard is fucked or your audio drivers are fucked. make sure it's not just FL, try smashing the volume in audacity or vlc or whatever.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cMOdfwLNsSI
I've tried distortion, adding noise, and EQing. I feel like this should be common knowledge given how common these samples seem to be.

start with a more acoustic drum kit/loop rather than a "drum machine" electro sound. you want to be using different combinations of compression and filters, a bit of distortion somewhere is a good idea but not heaps unless you want to sound more crunchy.

here's a one i whipped up quickly (open the .zip in FL), the LFO on the lowpass filter cutoff gives it a bit of movement and makes it sound less static (v. important)

Response to: N G A D M '14: Final Results Posted November 10th, 2014 in Audio

idea:

judges score using "standard deviations", with ±4 as a maximum for instance

so a song they think is just average is 0 (like a 7 in the current system), a song which is very bad (like a 2 or 3 currently) is -4 and a song which is absolutely amazing (9.9/10) is +4

advantages: no ceiling effect, better chance for normally distributed scores, strong positive and negative opinions weigh equally (in theory)

disadvantages: still subject to individual differences between how judges interpret the new metric. either that, or everyone needs to be briefed on how to "correctly" use the new scoring system which is a pain in the ass.

discuss.

p.s. strong opinions will always skew the average, especially if they disagree with the rest of the judges. tbh i don't know why people are complaining about weighting tho, like do you want all the judges to have the same opinion or something?
