I posted my thread the same time this guy did. Exactly the same time.

If you mean you want to click on a button that is behind a movieclip on the stage you can add
mc.mouseEnabled = false; for that movieclip allowing you to click the button as if it weren't there - if that's what you're after.

No, opposite that. I don't want a button to be able to be pressed through a MC. Spy helped me solve the problem tho, so thanks guys.

Does that mean I have to have a cord that can go all the way to the other computer? I don't get it.

Internets and computerz Posted August 10th, 2010 in Programming

I felt like this was the most appropriate forum for this...
I just got a new desktop and my sister gets the old one in her room. We have a little modem thingy for the internet in here, but will we need a separate one for the new computer? How do you share internet connection? Do I just plug up the cable thingy into the wall or what?

Buttons through movieclips Posted August 9th, 2010 in Game Development

Is there a way to make it so that when I have a movie clip over the hit area of a button, that you cannot still hit the button when you scroll over it with your mouse? It's causing problems in my point and click game.

Yeah that works with getting the sound to stop, but because of the way I set some things up, I can't stream every sound that glitches (there are a few more that play than I said).

I did however, figure out a way to fix it. I made a movie clip and dragged all the sound that repeated on their own frames with "stop" instead of start or event, and It catches them before they can play so ... Yay!

I tried changing around the setting (I tried everything) and they were already far above 16kbps. It's still the same sounds that play on the same frames. Does anyone know how to fix it? (I could put a stopallsound command on the frame but I have other sounds that play on the frame)

Flash 8 audio problem Posted August 7th, 2010 in Game Development

In the game I am making, I have some sound effects set at "start" and "Repeat: 1" and they are only in one cutscene in the beginning of the game. (talking about the exported swf)
Later on in the game, when you get to say frame 20 and 22, (it's always the same frames) the sounds that were in the beginning of the movie play for some strange reason (the sounds are a scream and a car crashing, lol). Why do these sounds that are not associated with these frames play when you get to the frames? It makes no sense at all. I think it's a glitch, and if so, how do I fix it?

Response to: Good way to enter new frame?? Posted August 7th, 2010 in Game Development

Yeah, not getting any lag on mine either.

Response to: Good way to enter new frame?? Posted August 6th, 2010 in Game Development

Sorry about this being so late, I think using attachMovie would be laggier. You might want to bring the FPS up just a little, and if you are manually placing the clips on the stage, make sure there are no extra clips on the stage that you do not need. (like off the stage that you wouldn't really be able to see until you get to the next frame)

I think I could help you better if you could explain how you have the game set up better. That giant wall of AS doesn't help me much cuz I am not very advanced with AS.

What is the frame rate of the flash?

Response to: A problem with the NG preloader Posted August 6th, 2010 in Game Development

but do you know of any way to copy flash from one computer to another? b/c i know someone who has ether CS3 or CS4?

There is no way to do that. Even if you did know someone with it, it would be like copying a movie on to a blank CD and giving it to them. It would be illegal.

whats the newest free version?

I don't think there is a free version of flash.

Response to: WTH is wrong with flash player? Posted August 6th, 2010 in Game Development

Okay, I finally located flash player, but when I right click on the swf and choose open with/ choose default program and paste "C:\Program Files\Macromedia\Flash 8\Players" (which is where the flash player is located) and click it, nothing happens. It doesn't open. It's just says it can't open the file again.

Then, select the Flash Player (Should be in C:\Program Files\Macromedia\Flash\Flash Player) or something like that, the icon is like Flahs's but silver. Then check the box that says "always open with these kind of files with this program". now select open. That should fix your problem.

I know, it was always the little silver "F" but I can't even find the flash player on my computer.

is there a way i can copy there's?

No, unfortunately Adobe is greedy and you have to buy flash. Getting it for free in any way would be illegal.

Response to: A problem with the NG preloader Posted August 6th, 2010 in Game Development

Sorry about double post, but you can find Flash 8 here for 50 bucks. That's a good deal.

And I have to say, my spelling in the last post is horrid.

At 8/6/10 02:19 PM, BurntFoxProductions wrote: well... witch one do you think i should do?

Well, the newest version of flash (CS5) is very expensive, and not a lot of people have it. Also, if you jumped that far ahead, you would probably not even know what some of the new stuff means or how to use it. I have flash 8, and I love it. It should be pretty cheap on Ebay nowadays.
If I was to upgrade (which I probably will soon) I would get CS3 or CS4.
You also need to know that CS3 can open Flash8 files, but CS4 cannot.
(this whole thinkg with adobe taking over flash from macromedia is rediculous)

Response to: A problem with the NG preloader Posted August 6th, 2010 in Game Development

Wow dude. Flash 5 preloaders to the newer ones are like car tires to rock wheels. You need to update your version of flash.

Response to: WTH is wrong with flash player? Posted August 6th, 2010 in Game Development

I can view the swfs by opening up flash 8, but that takes too long... How do I get just the player to open again like it did ... before I ate that EVIL SUB SANDWICH?

I'm almost done with this game I am making (flash8, AS2) and I turned off my computer to go eat lunch, and when I turned it back on and tried to open a swf file, my computer is said it doesn't know how to open it. Usually, it just opened in a little window that says "flash player." What happened? I don't want to have to open all my .swf files (hundreds of them, literally) with firefox. It takes to long that way, it's laggy, it's too irritating, and it stretches the dimensions to fit the whole screen. I downloaded the latest version of flash player (which I thought I already had) just a minute ago, but my computer still can't open the swfs.

And about the flash 8, I love it, it works fine, and I don't have 200 dollars to upgrade. Most 14 year olds don't even know how to use flash -.-

I have flash 8, and hitting F6 always made a new keyframe for the next frame, but now when I hit it, it just goes to the next frame but doesn't make a frame on the layer I am on. It just started doing that, how do I fix it?

Click on the ball in frame 1. Go down to the properties tab, and in the box that says "instance name" type "shirt" (because that is what you have in the actionscript, "shirt") It should work.
