The idea is that doing so will make you associate everything with that music and anything a composer gives you will not "fit". Putting music in your film then asking a composer to do something in that style is a -technique-, not an art. Take advantage of the fact that you'll have a composer and let them run free with the film, you will be pleasently surprised (if they're any good). Next time show the film to composers without music. :P

I'm not saying you're doing that intentionally, I'm just suggesting from experience.

It looks lovely by the way, the concept is rather lovely. Good luck!
It's probably true for live action films, though in this case, our teachers require us to follow the animation industry method which is to have a scratch track along with the leica so we can time our actions and sequences properly.

Thanks for the tip though!

Actually that's the industry standard for filmmaking; the director will often use music from other movies/sources (what is known as a "temp track"). He then send the completed film along with the temp track to the composer so the composer knows what kind of music the director is looking for, and then the composer works from there.

Just thought I'd share ;)

I can help you out. My genre is Classical/Orchestral Soundtrack. I've only got one track up since this account is newer, but if you want to see some of my other, older stuff go HERE.

If you like what you hear let me know and I can write whatever music you need for your game.

This is what I was trying to say, but articulated a LOT better ;) Thanks Samulis

Response to: Suggestion: Split a music genre Posted October 10th, 2012 in Audio

I'm pretty sure the "Video Game" genre is meant to be 8-bit, Chiptune, etc etc. Not any style of music MADE for games/flash, as many people mistakenly interpret.

I think that could be effective, yes. I'm up for that. PM me your email?

Sounds good to me. I've sent those of you who volunteered a PM. Once I have everyone's email I'll send an email to all of you, and maybe at somepoint we can all meet on Skype to discuss our evil plans.

Sorry for the late reply, but yes I was talking about doing a radio play.

Alright thanks everyone for your help! I'm glad there are other people who want to try this as well.

and now I have an excuse to use my Yeti mic that I got last Christmas :P

I think a good place to start would be to come up with what kind of story we want to try. Is there a way we can all communicate? Email might be best since I think for the most part we're all in different time zones, unless we can agree on a good day and time to talk, as well as HOW we would chat (whatever IM we'd decide on).

So what's it going to be? Email?

+1 for starting on FL Studio. I started on it, and eventually migrated to Cubase when I had learned more.

Response to: Game Scavenger Posted October 4th, 2012 in Collaboration

Hey man I'm not an artist, but that sounds like a pretty cool game, I'd definitely play something like that. An interesting take on the online shooter, sorta reminds me of Assassin's Creed Brotherhood's gameplay.

If you're even in need of some orchestral music for this, I could help you out.

Thanks. I'll give this maybe a day or two more, and then we can all start to think about what we want to try. Just an FYI, at the moment we have 2 writers (sorta 3 if you count me) 3 voice actors, and 2 musicians. I'd probably like a few more voice actors if possible, that way we can incorporate more characters if needed, and then we'll have more variety in voice type.

Response to: Podcast Series Anyone? Posted October 3rd, 2012 in Audio

I should also mention; not to sound arrogant, but to anyone who's interested please have a modest amount of skill at what you do. I'd like to make something of quality that we can all be proud of, but if you're say a voice actor who has an extremely poor quality mic, that would be hard to do. So please keep this in mind when you give what your primary role is, thanks!

Awesome. I'll let you know more if I get a little more interest, maybe two or three other people to do voices.

I guess maybe once I find enough people that want to try this, we should all chat on some IM or another or email (or whatever works) and discuss what our interests are genre wise. I for one am a fan of horror and sci-fi, so anything like that would be cool to do, but I'm sure you and anyone else who wants to join has their own ideas as well. We could find something that works for all of us, and then maybe come up with a basic story line that you could then work on. But again, that's later. If anyone else is interested please let me know, don't be shy :P

I tried to do something similar but it turns out that it's very difficult to get off the ground - people have trouble committing to projects and in the end it's just a big mess. I'm a composer too, and I have experience in voice acting and writing too. Hehe

Well hopefully I have better luck. If I do find a team you're welcome to join....unless that was your way of saying you're interested? :P

Podcast Series Anyone? Posted October 3rd, 2012 in Audio

Note: I wasn't sure whether to put this in the Audio or Collab forums, but I decided Audio since most of this involves JUST audio (voices and music, with the exception being writing)

So for a while now I've been trying to find people in my school who'd be interested in doing a podcast with me, but very few people even know what that is (I know right?) and fewer still want to help. So since I'm back on NG I thought I'd see if anyone here would like to work with me on a podcast series?

As far as details, I'd like to try an audio show, something where we could develop a storyline and get the whole "package" (voice acting, writing, music). I have a few plot ideas, but nothing too specific or set in stone. I'm decent at writing, but if anyone thinks they are a great writer I'd be happy to defer to your abilities. I can handle music (but maybe we can have 2 composers who specialize in two different genres?), and I can voice act pretty well, as long as it's not a really "exaggerated" voice, like a boy or something extremely "cartoonish". But more on that later, as I'm assuming people want to join up with me.

So.....do you want to join up with me?

I definitely am, probably for some chiptune, adventure-y OST (or the opposite, I'm open for anything right now). I was planning on maybe starting the music further down the line, so the composer had some artwork to get some ideas, but yeah, I'm definitely looking for some tunes.

Sounds cool. Guess I'll keep an eye on this project until you're ready for a composer ;)

I can do music and voice acting if needed. This is a new account of mine, so there's only one track. If you want to see some of my slightly older, but more "epic-like" music, check out my old account here.

How do we find people to team up with? Is there a thread dedicated to that, or do we just make our own thread asking for teammates?

At 9/30/12 07:35 PM, BB-7 wrote: Does anyone know a good way to stop FL Studio from crashing? It's starting to get on my nerves.

You'll have to give us more to go on than that. I'm no FL user, so listen to whatever they have to say in terms of that program, but just in terms of your computer itself, a lot of things can cause a program to crash. If you have a lot of RAM/CPU intensive programs running along with FL that could do it. Maybe you have a lot of large sound libraries in FL running, or you have a...ahem...."borrowed" copy of FL and it just isn't working period.

Basically in order to help you have to give us more information. For starters, what OS (Win/Mac/Linux) are you using, what are the stats of your computer (RAM amount, CPU speed, etc) and most importantly what are you usually doing when FL crashes (does it crash as soon as you start, or when you load a certain instrument, etc)?

Hi all!

I've been on NG for a while now as Varrin7, but of course I finally got tired of using the username I came up with as a whiny teen, so I made this new account with a more formal username....I'm so professional, right? ;)

Anyways here's my first track for this account. Let me know what you think.
