GamerSafe - Microtransactions Posted July 20th, 2009 in General

So in the past week i've seen one game with GamerSafe, one with MochiCoins....

What's the feel out there from the players about microtransactions? I know many people thinks it's ridiculous to pay for flash games, but think about this:

- The price for buying stuff is pretty low (or free for most GamerSafe stuff) around 50c
- The creators get a good part of the revenue, which entices them to make more games, which lets them make more money, which entices them to make more games......
- GamerSafe in particular lets you use your save file on any portal!

Judges?

Ok, this one's a biggy (at least to me)

Me and my drummer mate got into an argument where we basically saw Octavarium and ACoS as two different sides of the same song - He hates Octavarium but loves ACoS, and I... don't really like ACoS, but i love Octavarium.

Which of the two do you guys think is the better song?

Yes, there's probably a lot of wide eyes right now, but we need to focus people!

A workmate of mine has started a barbershop quartet that specifically transposes and learns metal songs. Think Apocalyptica with four-part harmonies. They can already sing Walk by Pantera, One (of course), and can do a pretty good Octavarium.

The only problem is, they don't have a good name. Anything they try ends up sounding really gay.
Do you guys have any suggestions?

Remember grammar and spelling children. A rushed post is a bad post!

Just for the record, DroopyA seems to be one of the few who actually understand what this is about. We're not talking about EA, or 20th Century Fox.
We're talking about Double Fine and Working Dog Productions.

We're not talking about Britney and Kanye.
We're talking about Deep West and, dare i say it, DREAM THEATER!

No, not really Dream Theater. I just love them.

YOU, LOVE DREAM THEATER!

Yes. This is an exception to the rule. I think Steam is one of the best, if not the best, gaming community/software ever to come out - the games are cheaper, they don't need the protection problems the CD versions have, and they have Steam extras, like being able to vent and chat while playing any game.

Still not totally with you - are you trying to say that society is defined by how it treats its criminals? Cause otherwises it's a bit fatalistic. Just because we haven't lived in a time with the minimum crime rate, doesn't mean it's never happened. Look as recently as the post-war boom in the 50's in America.

All in all, i think I'll go with PaperBagMask. Steam does work really well to prevent piracy, since even when i found the file that was CS on my computer, i just sat there going, "What kind of F%#&ing file type is that?"

These games not selling well shouldn't have anything to do with piracy. If you know they're bad games, why would you get illegal copies of them?

:who the fuck i am hurting by not making the all ready extravagantly rich richer?

The artists whose songs you are downloading that are 'the extravagantly rich'.
Most bands get so screwed over by their record contracts that they have to go on tour for the rest of their life. You want to add to that?
You think the Beatles would be as big as they are if they were out now? No, they wouldn't be anywhere, because people would have just downloaded their songs and the music stores would have sold none of their CD's.

What if there is a band, out there right now, who could change the course of popular music the way The Beatles did, but they went bankrupt because no one was buying their CDs?

Yeah, that makes sense. I think another factor in it is the fact that internet companies can see that their clients are downloading, yet make no move to stop them. They should be required by law to do something about it. Would this be an invasion of privacy? I guess it would, but it shouldn't be, because the only thing people would have to hide is their porn stash, and that's not illegal in anyone's books, just stoopid.

tighten up the internet security anyway.

Solution to Internet Piracy? Posted November 8th, 2008 in Video Games

C'mon, we all know it's completely wrong, and no matter what some free-thinking haxzor wants to tell the world, it DESTROYS the industries that it steals from. All because some kids don't want to spend $80.

I'm sick and tired of having jump through needle-sized hoops for SecureRom and others. They DON'T EVEN WORK. I just want a game i can run straight from install, but this WON'T HAPPEN unless we find a way to actually combat piracy on teh interwebs.

I've torrented one thing in my life - a crack for Oblivion. Two weeks later, i got an email from Bethesda. They'd caught me. Luckily, i only had to uninstall the game. But i know now that what i did was wrong. Those programmers had put in more work on one game than most of Newgrounds combined. And we were just stealing what they had done.

Don't even get me started on the music industry.

So, what do you think should be done about piracy?
