Do you mean this?

yes. they exist -- i believe they exist -- but i have never seen one. that is faith that science and logic work correctly to tell me so.

i also believe that human faith is fallible. we make a lot of mistakes. science has made a lot of mistakes, you have to admit. but, it does get things right a lot of the time, and it can either make life nice, or it can have an adverse effect, depending on how it's used.

there's SOMETHING that knows how to put things together correctly. i cannot believe that we just happened to end up this way. it was set in motion by a greater force that we'll never understand. i don't ridicule anyone that doesn't share my belief and i simply ask that no-one ridicule me.

science is its own religion. it requires its own faith. the main difference being, there are no personified deities. other than that, there follows observations and perceptions that many people from unrelated regions and cultures have agreed upon independantly. so goes world 'religion' as we know it, both ancient and modern.

religion is a tool of evil. even in the christian bible, religion itself is only mentioned in a negative manner -- see: Pharisees, et. al.

the basic message that all faiths come down to is this:

don't be such an asshole. because --
everything is connected. so --
everything you do will affect you in the future somehow.

also -- poxpower will destroy your face.

christ, i'm an idiot and missed your example. how do i read here, hurrrr.

avoid addressing the author directly -- instead comment on the work. why don't you like it? if you think it is absurd, say that. insulting the author, however mildly, will often get your review deleted.

it's from an awesome anti-nazi graphic novel by that name (I think)

my name isn't from that, though i am a great fan of Spiegelman's works and i own a copy of that book.

i've had this nickname since i was 14. which is quite a while. lol.

i do miss it here a lot. but i did need a break, it had been what, almost 3 years of solid modding? :o anyway, i took a break and started playing games like travian and then some text based rpgs. i read the news a lot too, and followed the election very closely. all that faffing around didn't leave too much time to devote here.

when you take a break, if you let the break wane on too long, it gets harder and harder to come back. never impossible, just daunting. kind of like riding a bicycle, if you will.

when i opened the sirtom topic, of course the first thing that started turning in my head was the social networking angle. it was 2.30a and i was way too, uhhh, tired (yeah) to read all 37 pages, but it started a thought.

i work in the advertising field -- i can assure you that forums like this are definitely considered a social networking venue. why? because you guys are THE perfect people to advertise to. if you look around, the forums are a constantly roiling free advertisement.

then i started thinking about the actual community here. sure, we have our fair share of trolls, but there are also a LOT of good people here. i've made (and kept) more online friends from here than any other site. i've met more of you, too. i'm also amazed at how cogent and put together a lot of you are, for your age.

for those wondering what i've been up to, it's been a wild and fretful ride these last months. mostly financial (surprise!) but with hard work, we've pulled through and the light is at the end of the tunnel. watching over you guys is some work, and it requires time and care. i didn't have enough of that to apply here and in RL. so i dove into playing games instead. that's been a lot of fun, and i'll probably keep playing because it's interactive and i've made some friends doing that, too. nothing as crazy as WoW, don't worry, haha.

for those who had my AIM: i don't use it anymore, because i have a windows laptop that i got for cheap and AIM is the most horrible thing ever on it. PM me if you want my other IM details. if i didn't have you on my list and you request it, you run the risk of being blocked from my PM box.

ok i think that's all for now. i'm gonna go poke around. :D

p.s. i am having trouble posting. it keeps saying that it can't connect to the server. but sometimes it DOES post. >:( i'm on FF 3.whateverthecurrentversionis. i have noscript installed, with everything but google-analytics allowed. >:((( halp.

and now for an unrelated picture.

Okay seriously, one more try and this time, follow instructions.

1 - Tell us more about the contest and tell us how to find more of the vids. A couple of lines of text and two links is more like fodder for the dreaded video thread.

2 - Just spell the dude's name right. For 5 1/2 years no-one could even spell his name in English! POW!

I'll give you a chance to repost because it has a little bit of promise. I just want you to do a couple things for me:

1 - Lay out your topic more clearly. Tell us about Colbert's contest and how we can find the vids that people have made.

2 - Spell McCain's name correctly so people can find it if they search.

I didn't see anything homophobic about that.

That said, most gay guys I've ever met had sex on the brain way more than any straight guy I've known. So whoever says 'omg, we are *so* much better because we don't think about sex as much as breeders' is being dishonest.

Anything to add to that? Ad hominem attacks are in poor form when there's a lot to address in a legitimate fashion.

She's pretty consistent and has some deep running values that she obviously believes in. Now for the fun part: this is being touted as an admirable trait - to pray to God that we are doing the right thing by going to war. The same trait is held by those we are fighting against - it can also be argued that they pray to the same God. It's all a bit too Crusade-y for my liking, especially after Bush's 'gaffes' that invoke Crusade type rhetoric.

Another thing I don't like is her advocacy in overturning Roe v. Wade.

The fact that her husband belongs to, and she gives video speeches for, a party that advocates the secession of Alaska from the U.S. Now, they will try to tell you that the party is about states rights, but it is not. If you cared so much about that particular right (as Vermont did) you would make sure the bit about secession is in your state constitution hurrrrr.

I also don't like that she doesn't know when the Pledge of Allegiance was written or that 'Under God' was added 50 some years later. Good enough for the Founding Fathers, indeed.

That's enough for now, I'd hate to freak everyone out with wall of text but holy shit.
