I am working on a kind of "sprite animation" but with my own pixel art, that I'm drawing with graphics gale (a dedicated software).
I'm exporting the sprites with the transparent background, alpha channel set, I now it works because if I open them in other softwares or image visualizer the transparent background will be shown right.

The problem is with Flash, when i import the png's the background is opaque, insted all the BLACK parts in the sprite are transparent. How do I change this setting? Why does flash consider black as the alpha channel color when it isn't?

thanks

it is a flash animation anyway, this is a place for flash animation right? For technical reason I had to edit it as a video file.
I have seen some animations here which i am sure passed a phase of video encoding, I would like to know how to do it.

if the animation is made in flash, export it in .swf format. Newgrounds only accepts .swf files. If all you have is a .mov file and nothing else, you would only be able to upload it by importing the file into flash and exporting to swf.

I haven't got the swf, because as I said I had to edit it in final cut. I have only a mov. it says it can import only FLV (ok i can export flv from final cut i think) but it will cause audio sync problems.

just to let you know. i finally got it: I had to export the mov in 1 fps. then convert the mov into a png sequence (setting 1 fps there aswell) and then i just converted the png sequence in a new mov at 24 with no flickering whatsoever.
i little long but it works.

Strangely, the 12 fps thing works, but when i speed it up 200% on premiere it does again that flckering thing.

never thought about the 12 fps thing, it seems a good idea, I'll give it a try.
even if the problem now seems more the one depicted in the youtube video, but who knows it could be the solution to it to.
a png sequence won't work, with the vcam and the movieclips.
as for the flvs i wouldn't know how to import them on premiere or final cut

mov exporting issue Posted April 29th, 2012 in Game Development

My last project is done by exporting the scenes in quicktime and editing them with premiere (i think that flash couldn't handle such a file on my older computer). It's all done, but i noticed that some characters are a little bit "flickering" when walking (attached pic). So i tried to re-export the scenes from flash (now I am on a macbook). The flickering issue is better but, i don't know why they live a kind of trail behind them. look: http://youtu.be/Li2od5XB30I . Do you know why?

thanks

how to deactivate anti-aliasing Posted November 3rd, 2011 in Game Development

is there a way to deactivate the anti-aliasing in flash?
i'd like to export (preferably a .mov but .swf is fine too) with the same graphic look i get when i click on view-> preview mode -> fast.
I'm using CS3
thanks

software for pixel animation Posted September 8th, 2011 in Animation

Hi guys,
I'd like to make an animation which should be kind of a sprite animation but with the exception that Im not going to rip sprites from any game, they will be all original. It will be a music video with a videogame style.
I know that there are a lot of sprite animations in flash but I would like to try a new software to animate this
what do you suggest among toon boom, after effects, macromedia director?
i think i will draw my sprites simply on microsoft paint, but if you have better suggestion for that they will be appreciated
thanks

Response to: umpteenth fla file becoming a pain Posted November 6th, 2010 in Game Development

this time I even haven't added sound effects yet, apart from a couple (2!) of files. Damn.

sorry, I didn't understand your solution, but i guess that is not going to work with an animation short.

...to work with.

Hi guys. This is not the first time it happens to me.
After a while my movie starts to lag, doing strange things in preview, crashes when i try to work on some scenes (latter one let's say is solved). Why does this happen? It must be my computer... I should really try a Mac.
Now to work without problems I made all the different shots in separated files, but now how I put them togheter? I exported them into quicktime and they are fine, but I can't manage to edit them in premiere without losing quality (yes I tried different formats and codecs). I could try to paste all the frames for each one in a extremely long time line on a single file but: objects are going to overwrite, or, if renamed they are going to create a huuuuuge library, and another unworkable fla.

Response to: going to a scene makes flash crash Posted August 30th, 2010 in Game Development

a single timeline for me is a suicide.

yes it is quite elaborate.
i can recoverit importing a preview, but now everything is on one layer and there are no more tweens, everithing on keyframes...
well...if i don't find another solution i can work from that...

no no, when i say go to i mean i actually go to work to that scene in flash!
when i click on the "scene" panel on that particular scene it crashes...i can't reach it!
i really need to recover it! its very important..

the scene i quite heavy, with a picture and several movieclips...
suddenly when i try to go to work to that scene the program crashes.
i REALLY need to recover that scene, it's been a though work.

However, I DID notice that the animation was a bit choppy. Since you're using a motion tween, you could probably ramp up the FPS a bit. What's the current FPS you're using?

i am not a native english speaker, so probably what i call "fuzziness" is actually your choppiness.
the framerate is 24 fps
i'll try to work on the vcam
thank you all

im searching for an animation widely accepted as "good" were this happens. I won't bother then.

help me with this tweening Posted June 24th, 2010 in Animation

im making a movie with a lot of people walking by, using different styles for doing (or avoiding) walk cycles but the main deal is making a movieclip with the walking (or just bouncing) cycle and then tween it on the stage from a place to another.
what i don't understand is if it's normal to get a "fuzzy" tween like this

http://spamtheweb.com/ul/s2452010776_mim o_Scene_3.html

if you look at the outline on the hair for example, you will see that it kinda leaves a little trail just for less then a second, it's very fast but it looks "fuzzy" as i said (sorry english is not my first language).
or is it just what i see on my computer?

editing a flash in premiere Posted March 29th, 2010 in Game Development

i opened a thread yesterday with a big problem, no one answered, i guess it's really weird one.
so i decided to export single scenes and edit them in adobe premiere (i have cs4).
i'd like to know how to keep the video quality good. (i like the one of the exported quicktime but how do i keep it in premiere? for example if i import the video in the project, it's smaller, if i resize the frame it will be less detailed etc.)
if you have other suggestions they are obviously welcome.
ps i can't import swf file in premiere because i used the vcam and premiere doesn't recognize that.

strange problem Posted March 28th, 2010 in Game Development

-I apologize for my english-
i have a really strange problem which is also hard to explain.
i made a flash which is quite big but not that much, I've seen longer movies on here.. there are some particular scenes that have strange problems.
for example when i put a certain scene after another, the first start to lag, then they kinda mix-up(?) looping for 3-4 times MERGING their sound and animations, oh, and a movieclip keeps on appearing and disappearing for no reason, like..flashing. i tried to copy and paste the frame on a single timeline, same story; making two movieclips one for scene and then putting them on the timeline, same story.
that fucking scene on a new file works perfectly.
there are some similar problems like a movie clip that has a sound, when i preview the scene you hear the sound, the second time you hear it louder. another one: a character walks in the room, and say something, when i preview the scene the second time (if you let it loops) the charatcher floats really fast to the last point of his walk and say the line.
wtf?

a MC disappear with no reason Posted November 7th, 2009 in Game Development

I got a main character, which is a MovieClip, that disappears without an apparent reason during a scene.
whether it is moving or not (i rougly animated his path in motion tween so it can follow the vcam - that's a basic tween and the guy is still not completely drawed)
http://spamtheweb.com/ul/upload/071109/5 8730_ma_Scene_3.php
as you can see on the attached picture, the MC finishes its path there, it's his last frame and it is still there (and yes, it is -still- a one frame only movie clip)

what's the matter?
i really can't understand!

a MC disappear with no reason

it's really weird!
it's quite a long time i'm working on this flash and it could be a quite large file (although i still think is an average-lenght flash) the last scene i made is really slow and lagging, don't know why...it's just a character talking (the head is a movie clip) like most of the other scenes...the second one a scene I made in the middle of the working process, after that I made like half of the scenes that flow perfectly (so i reckon its not something that occurs because the file got bigger) and it's just a V-cam pan on a building! what could it be?
uh, yeah, the talking charachter scene was once part of a good working scene
it was like shot of the character --> reverse shot --> new charatcher shot (lagging)
then i made the new shot in a new scene...still lagging.

Response to: Making the illusion of speed Posted December 15th, 2008 in Game Development

less frame?
try instead to use more frames in a fast action and less in a normal one.
in 24 fps for example, fast action should be on ones, normal ones on twos - (btw it's not a dogma, a full detailed normal action could be on ones too)

you can try to blur...however I always try to avoid effects abuse. set the blur to high quality and make it only vertical or horizontal (depending on the movement)

Video in flash file Posted November 11th, 2008 in Game Development

I'm making a presentation for uni, i'd like to have some clips from movies playable clicking on a play button.
let's say a screen with two clips stopped, two buttons for each one.
i'm gonna import a dozen of short clips (more or less 5 sec each one). the file is not going to be published on the web, however, how should I put togheter my work not to have a huge and crashy file?
