Border Cut help Posted 10 days ago in Animation

Need some help on finding a solution to keep the dimensions of compressed to the size the movie itself is set in.
Or... how do I word this better?

How do I stop the animation from showing the white space outside the borders on full screen?

So what should I do? Continue as3 use as2? Get a new program? This is a bit complicated these requirements.

But I am not making a big time complex videogame, just a simple interactive flash game. And I want to keep the animation I'm doing in the game too.

You don't want to work with scenes in a game. Ultimately what you want to do is have your entire game running on only the first frame. You do this by add/removing elements. Thus you wouldn't have to worry about advancing or stopping scenes. It's best to not work with multiple frames (especially scenes) as they are prone to all kinds of errors.

Ok that's the kind of thing I don't like. @_@

I'm the kind of guy who likes to keep things organized. To have everything cluttered in one scene because the scripting program doesn't allow it? That seems like a step backwards for me. I am prone to mistakes sometimes and I like to keep things organized and compiled neatly without messing up anything important.

I've always hated ActioNScript 3. I can never understand it and it doesn't really simplify the problems I have with it. I'm trying to make a simple interactive flash game where you point and click to where you want to go or do whatever. I've decided to move to AS3 because of people saying its better. But its like ramming my balls against the wall.

I've tried to use the online guides to learn about variables and syntax's and many fundementals AS3 uses but I can never understand them. I don't know what they mean and often enough they never explain them fully in laymen terms.
What I am having trouble on is essentially AS3. But I also want to know how to

1. make buttons to move from one scene to another.

2. to prevent scenes from advancing on their own.

3. What are the functions that will help me apply to problem 1 and 2.

Response to: Help with AS2 for point n click Posted 13 days ago in Game Development

But I don't know where to start! Materials in books and videos are limited to what I am trying to look for. And they don't do a good job explaining in laymens term.

Either that or I am not looking well enough. I hardly know what and how classes function or how to apply as3 scripts to em. In fact I can't apply scripting to movieclips.

Response to: Help with AS2 for point n click Posted 13 days ago in Game Development

Also I don't know how MovieClips operate. I tried AS3 before but it was too complicated. Nothing worked for me. Idk which does what.

I think the biggest advantage is how it’s more OOP-oriented. A feature you really learn to appreciate.

Ok so I did what you said. Only the problem I got now is that some of the functions don't work now. XD The scenes play out on their own. Stop(); doesn't work anymore nor gotoAndPlay function. Is there a work around to that?

Although if you're learning from the start, I recommend AS3 instead. It’s a bit more complex, but it’s much better in terms of what you can do, and relates much better to other languages. In the end though, it’s up to you.

Like what for examples? I want to be sure the flash game is stable and accurate enough so that there won't be any bugs. What does AS3 have?

At 12/15/14 10:24 AM, Voltage wrote: actually there are a lot of resources on AS2 at this point - what most point and clicks revolve on are variables and variables can be called via triggers to reposition movie clips + adjust their own timelines so instances "disappear"

And how do I do that? I mean how can I identify a symbol as a trigger or variable?

Also how do movie clips work for the Point and Click mechanic?

Making an interactive point and click flash game and I am in a bit of a jam. I don't know a lot about actionscripting, and there aren't a lot of layman terms to describe the lot of what ActionScript 2.0 does. AS2 is what got me to drop from flash animation a while ago and I want to start my flashing back up again. So I was wondering if anyone here has any advice, help, tutorials or anything that can help me learn how to make a point and click game.

Making a flash game (or movie since this is gonna be the first) and I need some advice and help on a few simple problems I got stuck on.

1. Making a button and I am curious as to what is the sequence or code I should use to move one scene to another using button.

2. How do I make a scene not move to another on its own.

Ok guys! I'm pissed, I'm motivated, ready to go balls to the wall! I wanna learn how to be a game designer! Taking some 3D animation/modeling classes, doing some writing, but sheit man I want to get through! Only got very few to show off for but I doubt I'm gonna get anywhere doing amateur work.

So give me all ya got! I'm pumped, I'm eager! How do I learn game programming, game designing and writing and all that jazz? I'm ready to do it even if I'm one guy working on one whole game. I got a bunch of ideas and shit and its gonna burst my head.

Will super appreciate it if you give me your response!

I think anything anyone here could tell you would just be from google. Maybe you could try asking a developer through twitter or something.

1. Already sent like an email to a developer site. Haven't responded back yet.
2. There's not a lot of content on the internet that thoroughly explains the process clearly, or if at all.
3. I rather ask community members who have certain expertise in this field provide me with the means of a solution. Not because I can't do this on my own, but because I tried in several other places and didn't get what I was looking for.

Hey guys. Making this post here because reasons. How do I make a pitch or a concept in written detail for a game idea? Like writing shit that details the game mechanics, story, and other shit. Already writing a sort of manuscript or something similar to one for it right now but I have no idea what exactly I should do. And I tried asking my friend but he wasn't much help... so he asked me to ask anyone form community to professional developer:

So can ya help me? How do I write or make shit like a pitch, concept, and other stuff relating to pre-production video game development?

Writing/Planning for video games Posted August 9th, 2013 in Writing

Hey all! I'm just starting out on trying to become a video game designer and the first think I was thinking on doing is writing. Or at least... planning on making a video game. The problem is I don't know where to start, how to start it, what to do. I'm not sure if I am writing on the gameplay, the story, setting, a chart on areas, or the game itself.
I been rather frustrated with myself for quite a while and I really really need help and I appreciate it if you tell me what I can do.

Any advice? Posted February 2nd, 2012 in Game Development

Hello everyone. I am looking for any help or advice on actionscript. For example, trying to find a good tutorial for point and click tutorials while giving a full detailed walktrough. Anything on that, I would be grateful.

Hey remember that Defence 2 game? Posted November 28th, 2011 in General

It was out many years ago. A rather difficult but exciting and interesting defense game. It was dubbed Defence 2. And according to how it was presented (said -Beta-) I wondered if there was ever a finished product of it. (I could never find it's predecessor)

For those of you who don't know what I'm talking about; http://www.freeonlinegames.com/game/defe nce-2.html

And haven't I seen it on Newgrounds at one point?

But anyways, it was a pretty addicting game made by Toiletquest. x3 I wonder what happened to the game and those dudes.

Need help! Posted September 14th, 2011 in Animation

I was receantly talking with my friend about degrees and such for college. And I need your absolute help and advice!!

What sort of degrees are there for game designing or animations? Please I really need your help.

Need advice Posted July 25th, 2011 in Where is / How to?

It's been a while and since I hadn't made much progress being a NG artist, I have come to seek advice and help from other people. For college I am thinking on taking videogame designing, art and animation classes and majors.

I want to improve and get better so I don't make anymore crap short flashes and make false promises I keep on making. And I want YOU to help me in anyway you can.

Recently, I am going to a community college after summer ends. But if I don't like it I can always drop out and look for a new school. Now this is where I need you.

What schools or places do YOU reccomend I should visit and major in? I really would appreciate it a lot.
Mastersarge.

Big deal! you just leave and shut the fuck up about it.

If you don't find what they have there attractive or something, just don't go there.

The problem was was that I never expected that much when I saw more. So how was I suppose to know they had horrible shit when I first joined? :/

Furries... a problem? Posted September 12th, 2010 in General

Yellow. Never been on the NG BBS for a while now, but I feel the need to rant. If you are the kind of TL;DR guy or your a furry or fur defended then look away because I no like to deal with furry drama. :P

I came here to talk about furries and how I and few people know the truth of furryism. :P

I was ONCE a member in the community. I didn't think furries would be bad till I dug a bit deeper into FA. There was sooo many things I had found extremely wrong. So I left never to return to them.

FA is not like DA; furries don't like 'constructive criticism. Only the most 'popular artists' give them amongst themselves. There is no limitations and no 'report' buttons. They have everything that they think is so right that its actually controversial. Why?
#1: The furry community has EVERYTHING. Everything that everyone will have different opinions on that they think is wrong. This causes drama from people who can't hold their resentment.
#2: They are likely to defend what they do at any lengths. Fursuits; sick fetishes; and mass commission of porn.
#3: They are likely to give out links to certain people for furries to bash and yell at just because one little site was down. (E621. A site that SHOULD had stayed down.) I mean; what's one furry site to them>? Everything. There's thousands of more and they are so bitchy and whiny.

Next is furry hypocrisy. They are so hateful and blind of whatever deems more popular and fan based that they can bash at it.
Like you know the Majority of furries are rather obsessed with Renamon? Oh and let me add Krystal, Rouge the Bat, Lucario and blah blah blah. They are so attached to them that they don't consider themselves obsessed or attracted to. I mean come on! They treat Renamon like a fucking sex symbol!
Now there are many Cynder killing arts that basically anger me. (With everything torturing and guro blah blah) because they intend that so they can attack the spyro fanbase fans of her. :P (Let me just say that Cynder isn't the ONLY game character game fans be obsessed with.)_I mean COME ON! Renamon has been around since FOREVER and furries are fucking her here and there 24/7.

Next is Commissions. You know; this one dude, SecreT I gotta say is a man beyond creepiness. He is rich ok? Very rich. And he wastes his time, life and his money buying furry porn of his fursona fucking so many others. Everywhere I click; its fucking and fucking and fucking. No general art whatsoever. D:
If you don't believe me you can just look! :P (Or not since its features won't let unregistered users to see adult shit.) And when I posted a comment about SecreT, chastising about what he does, a couple furries come complaining, defending him and 'Quote unquote' "SecreT is one of the most dedicated furry blah blah blah ect ect and because of him and his kind we'd get money for his participation blah blah." (Though this isn't an official quote; but its in a nutshell.)
And there is a majority of other furrs that rather pay lots for commissions of porn.
Like Nicobay and Chrome and the list goes on.

Lastly; they are a community who rather express themselves and their art and shit publicly. PUBLIC! And the majority of all the people of the world find certain fetishes of theirs disgusting and sickening and lastly offensive. Like scat; piss; dismemberment, guro, necrophilla, cub (an excuse for child porn.) and NAZIS! (There's more then this.) And they have the tendency to rule 34 EVERYTHING from anime to videogames with anthropomorphic like characters in it.

Soo yes... This is my rant. I hope to have feedback. Even if you point out certain flaws. :P I'll be waaaaaaaaitiiiiiiiing.

Help Posted March 26th, 2008 in Game Development

Hey its me. Mastersarge. And I need in flash. (Im using CS3) Is there a way to make a Specific Frame loop without going over it or repeat all the way back to start? I tried the "PrevFrame" and the "NextScene" and "GoToandPlay" thing, but the movie keeps going past it! All it says is. Not_Yet_Set_ .NextFrame () thing. And it says the same thing in buttons! If anyone can help me, I would be greatful.
