I never thought of Newgrounds as a gaming website. I've always come here for the animations, with a bit of gaming and music in between. More experienced members would probably know better though. I see that "Games" is the first tab in the navigation bar, with "Movies" afterward.
That's some good info on the Writing forum, though. Sad that there's no commitment to writing the way there is to games, movies, and art. You can't even leave a score on anything. And of course, with no incentive to review people's stuff, the writing forum will be plagued by the same procrastination as all other writing forums out there. Would be great if there were some commitment to this on NG's part--because I really love this community, and I'm a writer, and I want to share that.
Near the end of that passage my imagination just went wild. This is classic. This is the type of stuff that spawns epic stories. This IS just the beginning of an epic story, right?
I'm thinking the penultimate story here could be sci-fi, with mechs and whatnot. That is what us humans are creating, after all. Would be beautiful to read a story like that, where the mecha are the products of destiny or some such. Perfect blend of sci-fi and fantasy.
These stories have pretty good premises. Judging by the cover art though, the art style isn't all that fabulous.
Charge $2.49 instead of $2.50; there's a psychological effect with the former which encourages people to buy. For that matter you might as well charge $2.99, but if you're trying to break into a market a straight up 99 cents comic has much greater appeal.
I'm not a sales guy so don't listen to my rambling.

Don't mind me, I'm trolling. Welcome to the forums--from one newcomer to another.
LinkedIn? What the heck is LinkedIn? :P
So, um, hi.
I remember posting a work in here a long time ago, and getting minimal feedback on it (good, but minimal), but I figure I might as well throw something up again to see what others think. This time I'm putting up one of my longer works: the award-winning Metal Shadow Prelude!
It's an action fantasy epic about the hunt for the Moon-Child, a woman prophesied as the harbinger of the end of the world. But, of course, this is just a "prelude" to a much grander story. When I say action fantasy, I do mean ACTION. FANTASY. Like suplex-punches with rock fists and shit. The style of the world and characters are in the vein of FF7/8.
The story is being published here: http://jukepopserials.com/home/read/15 It's free to read. It's being released in serial format, meaning chapter by chapter. It's currently on chapter 34, with 35+36 planned for release tomorrow. I'd use this thread to post updates but that would be bumping, right?
Please tell me what you think. I can take criticism, so be blunt if you don't enjoy it. Pretty sure you all will though. Bout 75% sure. Maybe 70%. Bout 70%.

No, seriously, I'm confounded.
So what's up? How's this tape going?

That's the one I'd like to use if that's fine.
Lol, I thought I was the only person who enjoyed that. Alrighty then, toss it in with the rest.
I always try to keep the TV volume at 7, 9, 13, 17, 22, 25, or 29. When I change the volume on my comp, it's always by 2's.
If I see the microwave saying so-and-so seconds remaining, I press clear to get the clock back again.
Left sock first, right sock second.
When I'm showering: left pit, left side, stomach, right pit, right side, upper back, lower back, repeat. I throw in a crotch and butt wipe here and there.
OCD?

Thanks for being first.
This is the only song I made which I feel is RAW enough for this tape.
Click to listen.
I'm also a budding lyricist, but I have a lame mic so I'd rather not do that just yet. Looking forward to this album!

This works for me sometimes as well.
In general though, I believe there is no actual way to rebound from writers' block. It happens whenever we tell ourselves, "I've accomplished something," when we finish a poem or story or whatever, and subconsciously we stop wanting to write. However, while we can't come back from w/b, we can certainly prolong its onset. For me, I edit minimally when writing a story or something or other. This tells me that I haven't accomplished anything yet, so the w/b stays at bay for a while longer. I wrote six chapters of a story--each an average of 10,000 words long--in about two months this way.
I liked it, it was a nice little on human resillence. It was very well written and I'll look foward to reading more :of your work. Also please read my stories for I too worked very hard on them.
You got a portfolio or something? Lemme at it! :)
:Is your name Kevin Lewis, or this by the author of "The Kid" Kevin Lewis?
Kevin Lewis is my name.
:I rather enjoyed it. I always find that in some of the darkest hours, the strength of the human spirit can :be impressively strong. I've seen it amongst friends over seas, and it is a wonder to behold.
I'm glad you enjoyed. However, the piece has a deeper meaning than that. It is more about being humble than being strong, as implied by the line, "not only for pride." Sometimes we have no control over anything in our lives; that's when we are brought to our knees. But as you said, the human spirit is ever strong.

Oh. My. God. A writing portal? SERIOUSLY!?
Let's get started, then.
We Are What Makes the Shore
by Kevin Lewis
Category: Prose
And we faced the cruelty of the world through the comfort of their seats. The ruthlessness, the hopelessness, time and again: until we were brought to our knees, scratching wildly at the doors. An ear would turn, then an ear would turn away; a hand would extend, then a hand would withdraw. We held no leverage over them. We were from a distant land-we were not welcome here. Why be optimistic? There was no indifference to the taste of our failures; they saw a gamble where we pitched an investment. There was a line that they all drew through the sand. Their perspective. We stood upon it and threw over our souls-our hardened, empty souls. But you can't beat the sand with stones.
And yet, as one would see us drown in despair, we didn't. Our eyes were tamed dry-and not entirely for pride. There was something deep within that wouldn't despair. It would neither break, shift, nor fall: a resilience; a stubborness. It was tempered. We, were tempered. And when we became ashes, we blew. They would stop us with death, but what makes ashes ashes? That they are sand.
Go on, beat us. Try to tear us down further. We cannot fall from our knees; we can only rise. And as we do, tremble. Witness the human spirit. Witness its imperviousness. Witness what you refused. If common sense is your dividend, hope is our interest-and the rate is steep, my friend. Count every penny in the jar, for we are coming to collect.

Look, Disney bought Marvel, so what. Disney already has a line up for small kids and little girls, WHY WOULD THEY CONVERT MARVEL TO SOMETHING THEY'RE ALREADY DOING? It would be a waste of 4 billion dollars to do something that damn stupid and tarnish Marvel's name in the process.
Disney needs a way to broaden it's audience to young males. What obviously will be happening is Marvel cartoons will appear on Disney channels. Like I've just said, Disney already has shows for little girls, and I think they understand that not everyone on the face of the Earth isn't a 6 year old girl. Also, they're not anyone's parent.
Look, Warner Brothers has owned DC for years. Not once did you see Superman bashing out Daffy Duck's brains. Or, the Joker anywhere near Bug Bunny. Warner Brothers owns DC, yes, but, they're STILL separate. The only thing you people on the outside see is Warner Brother Logo accompanied with DC. But, no characters from Warner Brothers, other than the DC ones ever appear with DC.
Same with Marvel, those on the outside (the consumers) will just see Disneys name on Marvel products. On the inside, however, Marvel has financial support, and Disney gets to broaden it's cast of characters, and audience.
Stop thinking Disney's going to screw up Marvel, it ain't gonna happen. Them doing that is saying "Hey, LET'S THROW AWAY 4 BILLION DOLLARZ LOLOLZ!!"
Where's common sense.. omfg.
