CHAPTER 1
It was a cold autumn night dark and misty as always in central city cemetery. Adam Steele had been to see his parent’s grave as he always did this time of year. He was wearing the black standard issue bulletproof vest, long sleeved thermal top and combat trousers that the rebellion had given him. He had hoped no one had seen him strolling towards the cemetery from the abandoned underground metro. Adam had dropped the freshly picked red rose he was holding in front of his parent’s grave and left the old cemetery.
Adam headed back to the abandoned underground but he had only gotten as far as the large ornate arched gate when he heard shouting from down the street to his left, it was one of the zombie patrols. The zombies had been patrolling ever since the rebellion had attempted their first infiltration of the capital command centre. Adam had only encountered the patrols once before. It had been a couple of months ago when he was out with his group, they had come out with barely a scratch but he was alone this time, he didn’t have Jason or Lucy it was just him.
Adam turned to face the shouting and the zombies yelled.
“Stop where you are and put your hands in the air.”
Adam complied and put his hands in the air and didn’t move an inch. The zombies advanced towards him and when they were within a meter of him he grabbed his sword from his back, unsheathed it and in a silver flash of steel, his blade sliced clean through the zombie nearest to him it went from its left shoulder to its right hip. Its upper body slowly slid off its lifeless lower torso and hit the ground with a meaty thud. Adam looked up towards the hoard of confused and angry zombies and confidently spoke.
“Who’s next’?”
With that the zombies immediately flooded towards him and he slashed and diced them like vegetables. The crazed horde were filled to their heads with rage and violently thrashed at Adam who was struggling to fight the zombies off when he heard the familiar sound of a loud shot being fired, he smiled to him self as a nearby zombies head exploded spraying a fountain of blood all over Adam and the mass of dead and undead.
They all looked toward the shot and saw two figures wearing the same clothes as Adam approaching the first was a young female with blonde brown hair, blue eyes and blue energy crackling in her gloved hands. The second figure was a tall broad shouldered young man with dark brown hair and hazel eyes behind black framed orange lensed sun glasses, he was holding a barret 50 cal sniper rifle against his shoulder pointing towards the stunned group of zombies. They were the rest of Adams team, Lucy and Jason.
Jason fired another shot that slammed into the skull of one zombie out the back and through the head of a second. Lucy threw two energy balls that simultaneously hit two zombies and they both disintegrated. Adam turned away from Jason and Lucy and saw a zombie jump towards him its arms outstretched. Adam swung his sword so fast the zombie didn’t know what hit it and it never would. The zombie split in half its innards decayed and shrivelled fell to the floor.
Through the split zombie he saw another patrol coming fast around the corner towards them. Adam turned and shouted to Jason and Lucy who were finishing the last of the zombies by putting a bullet of one of Jason’s Glock 18s in a zombies head, and shouted.
“More patrollers! Run!”
