I find it hard to believe that even if Saudia Arabia will threaten us or even attack us we will destroy the holliest place to the Islam. We might attack other cities, but not Mecca or Almadina, or at least not the Caba (or however you spell all of these things).

I completely agree with that statement. To do so would be inviting the entire Muslim world to go to war with you.

But it would be a last move for Isreal because after that all the Islamic countries would retaliate.
We will never blow up Mecca, this is because we are, unlike Iran, conventional. Besides, the Muslim population of the world is over 1 billion people, we won't destroy their holliest place just because one country's mistake. If Israel blows up Mecca (which is the holliest place also to more than 20% of it's own poeple) I will no longer consider myself part of it. Good it won't happen.

Not to mention that Mecca is in Saudi Arabia. . . NOT Iran. Unless Saudi Arabia is going to go and threaten Israel too, they wont do anything to Mecca or Medina. Nice try.

Oh my gosh. Did Benjamin Franklin really utter those words? I can't believe it. That's such a good argument! I honestly have never even heard anyone use those words before! You really hit it on the head! And you're so original too! It's amazing! Wow!

Amazing. Rather than respond in a meaningful way, you've decided to be a complete pompous ass. Thank you for your incredibly valuable input.

That being said, you have to go easy on him. He's Canadian XD

The Rape of Nanking? Never heard of it. It's sickening how easily they can turn around and deny history.

They've actually apologized on numerous occassions, going back to the 70's I believe. However, history textbooks in Japan fail to make significant mention of such atrocities and that's the main source of tension between Japan and China, regarding that subject. Though, in my opinion, that's not much better.

No, he's right. Even Lincoln and FDR took alot of shit during The Civil War and WWII. You never read about that in the history books though.

I can't believe no one else caught this one. You . . . IDIOT! American Revolution: began in 1775 (some would argue 1774). French Revolution: began in 1789. The American Revolution impacted the French Revolution in the following way: because king Louis XV spent so much money supporting our cause, he practically bankrupted France. When Louis XVI became king, he continued to spend money (on himself) like a madman, as did his wife Marie Antoinette. When everyone around you is starving, they get kind of pissed off to see you doing things like that.

The main influence from the US is seen in The Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen, which is influenced by the US Declaration of Independence (though some would argue that it was simply influenced by the Liberal ideas of the time and not by the Declaration of Independence inparticular).

Please . . . if you're going to say anything in a thread with an historical subject . . . read books. They are your friend, as is knowing the correct chronoligical order of important events.

At 3/29/06 11:37 PM, Dinodoode wrote: Look at the Chinese-American War this way, the US said they would be done in Iraq in 10 months, we've been there for 3 years.

The major difference between our situation in Iraq now and any potential situation in Taiwan is this: the Iraqis don't want us there, nor do the thousands of militant Islamic extremist that are fighting us. Therefore, we have a huge insurgency on our hands which we've been dealing with for years now. If war broke out between Taiwan and China, and I hope to God that it never happens, you would see an overwhelming support for US intervention within Taiwan. Assuming we got the Chinese army to withdraw from Taiwin in 10 months or less, the war would be over in 10 months or less, it's about as simple as that.

Yes, please elaborate.

If you said something like "Man! I fu*%($(%ing LOVE the soldiers! May all of their bullets find the hearts of the enemy!", then I could understand some people thinking that. If you just said something like "You know, I really don't support this war, but I wish the troops nothing but the best and under no circumstance will I wish ill on any of them," then I they're reaction makes no sense.

lolopinion

I'll agree with you to an extent. There are some Iraquis in the insurgency. However, it's largely foreigners. What we're talking about is full-blown civil war, which is NOT what's going on right now. Things are bad enough as it is, you throw in an actual civil war and things will get really ugly.

I also know that in this day and age a no parties system is just about impossible. So realistically, I'd like to see a bunch of small parties, instead of two big parties holding the monopoly.
