well if he wants exclusive hold on the track I sure as hell hope he's paying you handsomely for it. Like, easily over $400 handsomely.

Putting the song up here with a twist to make it unusable is a great idea, also be sure to tell him you want credit on the youtube page or some good business.

If he was seriously involved in the business he should have had you sign some kind of contract. Without a contract you could take his money and upload the full version here and be safe as he's got jack in regards to evidence.

On the other side of that coin he could also screw you by exploiting your talents and taking credit where it's not due.

If it were me i'd have told him to keep looking, but the allure of a paying gig is very powerful, I know that feeling well.

Topic: In need of a free orchestra sound

Posted: 11/15/09 02:46 AM

Forum: Audio

you'll never find the sound you're looking for, for free. As Loan said there is way too much effort that goes into a good (or even half assed decent) orchestral library to ever condone giving it for free. I mean, you would have to convince the following people to give up their time (for just strings)

18 violin players
10-14 viola players
10 cello players
4-9 double bass players

several sound engineers for recording
dozens of developers to build a half decent sampler so you can use said string samples seamlessly

easily over 50 people giving up several hundred man hours requiring many more hundreds of years of experience between them all. And then the damage that would do to the VST industry would be rather devastating depending on how awesome that freebie was made.

You could always blend many string soundfonts together to get a more interesting mix. If you sharpen your engineering skills you can make crap sound great.

i'm not arguing that IGN owes a big apology here, they do. But IGN does not owe him money. Let's not start derailing the topic, we should all go write fuming letters to IGN and who knows, maybe they'll feel so embarassed they'll give a good sum of cash.

the ad rev is a recent thing introduced early 2008. Has NG been breaking the law then since it's conception? The website does not directly make money off the songs, at no point does it charge the user. When you have your own site, blog or whatever, does having a song with CC license automatically mean you are breaking the law against yourself because you are making money, no matter how tiny against yourself?

No.

If the song WAS TAKEN from Newgrounds, and put into a product, game, even paid webcast what have you, then it is breaking the law.

Just because IGN paid some guy to put together a video, which makes the video a commission, does not automagically make it a commercial product. There are loads of people who are paid to create open source material.

If NG removed it's rev share program today, just like how it was before the rev share, it would not be breaking the law.

hey guys, hope nobody minds me being a total douche and making a post here. I've made a post regarding me writing a song for any artwork you guys might have.

More News here

I made this post because if you're anything like me, when you type in Newgrounds in your browser the first place it goes to is the forums, which is what I do, and often don't even visit front page.

Much thanks for your understanding, hope to see some of you in there!

yeah basic theory is definitely on the list. Things I wish I had known a long time ago and stuff like that.

We're also trying to figure out a quick and easy way to streamline video production. Our first attempt is proving... difficult. I'm sure we'll get better at it over time.

And Echoz, wordpress was exactly the script we are using ;D!

hey guys!

The team and I are setting up a producers blog of sorts where we want to discuss our tips and tricks of the trade as well as talk about fun things in general like state of the art toys, fancy pants new synths or cruel mockery towards each other.

We also want to talk about interesting services for artists like physical distribution services ie CDBaby, CreateSpace, digital like TuneCore, Reverbnation etc. Basic laws, rights, upcoming toys and news (like the upcoming possibility of composer unionization!) and other things that gives readers more awareness of what's out there and how they can use it for their advantage.

Essentially we want to create a friendly inviting place where we can all geek rage and just have fun. Has it been done before? Ample times. However we think this is another great way to give back to this community by showing everybody our cards. Hide nothing.

so though we have a nice list to get us started we want to know what you all like to read about and what kind of stuff makes you go "ooh, this looks like fun!"

Let's hear it gents, let the geek storm commence.

Topic: Ewsog Mod Wheel?

Posted: 11/11/09 09:50 PM

Forum: Audio

cc11 controls expression, go to the parameter list and scroll down near the bottom. The first couple hundred are reserved for the patches. You'll notice when you put up a patch it takes up like 20 or so spots for the ADSR envelopes and such.

When you go to bottom and find CC11, right click it and say link to controller, after that move your mod wheel. If FL sees your mod wheel at all it will now be attached to the expression channel and now you can change intensity. Some mod patches also let you change vibrato through that but not sure if there's a specific cc channel or variable up top that would do it.

They would take all my deskspace, but add quite a bit.

The only thing that prevents me from getting them is that I program automation a lot using orchestra tracks.

I actually got one TO automate my orchestral tracks. Record the notes on the first pass, record automation on the second.

lads, I already did. I searched for HOURS, and I can tell you, nothing else comes close. This place especially seems to be selling them cheap. They go for 180 on average, with some places as high as 280. It's worth a buy, without a doubt I think.

If only I lived in the states

I'm definitely going to pick up one of these. I don't expect very heavy use so I'm not thinking it'll break. But as Echoz said, 2 year warranty at the minimum to make it a worthwhile purchase.

yeah, i'd much rather it had sliders as well but if it's a choice between less configurable parameters or just rotaries, i'm leaning towards rotaries... though I suppose that does mean i'm going to have trouble changing more then one at a time.

thanks gents on all the suggestions and input.

It's possible to automate everything through the mouse yes but I find it incredibly tedious and I lose a lot of my inspiration when i'm testing mod patches to see if they sound realistic enough or not. I have one slider on my keyboard I use on and off and this thing is so mad useful I just wish I had more sliders... which brings me to this topic.

the ultimate goal is to be able to control my DAW through the mixer. I have no intention of recording anything which is why mic capability is not a deciding factor.

If it's possible to make the analog mixer work in my DAW (without a driver or sorts the DAW would not see it would it?).

Thanks for all the tips and info, proving useful.

that's looking like a very solid buy. Cheers loan.

I found this incredible 16 channel analog buy. The seller recommends I get an analog to USB adapter. I normally am a bit wary of getting converters. Can anybody give any advice or experience stories with these things?

I'm looking for a solid studio mixer to use as a midi interface on my rig. The more I look into it the more data i'm finding and i'm starting to lose my way.

FIrst, what is unpowered and powered mean exactly? Does it work like reference monitors?

Second, any recommendations? I'm not looking to invest a LOT on this thing, 200 tops. I am looking for 8 channel at minimum if possible. Mic capability is not a factor.

thanks guys.

no, wordbuilder NI version does not support within host use, and the new PLAY version states that it doesn't work in FL. Just thought i'd answer this here since I don't often frequent that FL thread.

if they're old then they will not likely get many listens. No bandwith is wasted. If they are getting loads of attention then they make plenty through the ads on those songs to make up for it. You're not harming the site by keeping them. Now if you wanted them gone for other reasons sure, but taking up bandwith is not a good one.
