Response to: The Cybersecurity Act of 2009 Posted October 18th, 2009 in Politics

This will do absolutely nothing on the matter of Cybersecurity.

Any needed "areas" of the internet are already in lead rooms, impervious to EMPs. They can be cut off from connection to standard internet.

This exists for the soul reason for not spreading panic. Which is retarded because I can guarantee you people will flip the fuck out if the internet doesn't exist. Imagine G-20 times 20.

Response to: Anarchy makes no logical sense Posted October 17th, 2009 in Politics

I think anarchism is less an attempt to reach tribalism (which is what it would lead to) and more of a fight against its opposite, authoritarianism.

Anarchism doesn't want there to be no system, anarchism does not exist then(at least not in my interpretation of the ideal). Anarchism needs to have a system it fights so it keeps the system in check.

Response to: Can free will be proven? Posted October 17th, 2009 in Politics

I think this question confuses the idea that influence trumps the idea of "free will". If we had no free will, we would be robots. We would have no emotions other than ones completely predetermined by a controlling force.

Imagine like you are a driver in a car, and you are on a highway. Likely, you are going to attempt to stay within the boundaries of the road, will slow down if it rains, will turn on the lights if its dark, and avoid other cars. This does not mean that you do not choose to to those things. We are just influenced in a way very similar to nearly all, given some sort of factor.

Whistle on Audio. Posted October 17th, 2009 in Where is / How to?

Okay seriously, when moderation puts more focus on banning people who rightfully claim the illegality of uploaded audio rather than taking down actual illegal audio, there is something amiss.

I understand the reason for the rule against saying so in reviews, I've read the FAQ, but what is one supposed to do if there is an illegally uploaded song. They can't whistle it, that option does not exist. Now this may seem like a minuscule issue, but I think no one here wants UMG and WMG to be crammed down the throats of the staff here, forcing every audio file uploaded to be "approved" by a record label employee before being processed through. And if you think that thread is paranoia, you have never been to YouTube, have you?

Besides, on the matters of economic illegality, its much more common for wrongful uploads and transfers of songs to occur on the internet rather than shows or movies.

Response to: Is 'shorty' sexist? Posted March 1st, 2009 in Politics

I don't think "shorty" is sexist.

I think the rest of any song that has the word "shorty' probably is though.

Well, the reason there isn't B/P for the audio portal is because there are different genres of music. So, if anyone could blam a song, the AP would be filled with only the music that the majority of Newgrounds likes. Country, for example, would never make it.

My god it would be an abyss of Techno (more so at least). :P

Well that answers that question well enough.

Response to: Assault Rifle Ban Posted February 19th, 2009 in Politics

I would say it depends on region.

In more rural areas, gun laws have an unnoticeable effect on crime in some areas, and in others there was a crime decrease correlation based on the amount of guns that were owned in the towns.

Legalizing AK's and uzi's in say L.A. on the other hand would be a big mistake. So it depends.

Personally the only real reason most people who are for the owning of assault rifles is for collection and hobby shooting. I live in Arkansas (say what you will with the redneck jokes, lol) and I own about 50 or so rifles. Some of them are fully automatic. If there was a robber in the house though, the first weapon I would grab though is my revolver. Easy and quick to aim, light, low-recoil.

Audio Votes 4 Exp Anyone? Posted February 19th, 2009 in Where is / How to?

I was wondering why is it that votes in the audio portal do not count towards exp like flash does. And why there isn't a blam/save system there as well.

I apologize if this is a question that comes up to often, but I didn't see anything in the rules that would suggest against this post.

Response to: School System Justice. Posted February 19th, 2009 in General

Public School Fails. Unfortunate fact. Although I do have to feel for you in that case.

Reminds me off a teacher my little sister has a problem with. She yelled at, and shook a kid of about 10 years old because she allegedly cussed. But she didn't. Needless to say that when I found out about this I went to their office to demand her immediate removal. Office refused because of lack off evidence. They said though that if i got a petition with enough signatures she would be fired.

I got 700+ student signatures and 50+ staff signatures. She got blammed. :P

Lesson here is that when the school system fails, you cant take it head on. Form a legal army.

Response to: There is no such thing as life... Posted February 18th, 2009 in Politics

Reminds me of a "perception" argument I had with a friend.

Like If i perceive that cute bunnies to be raining from the sky, then it's true.

Personally, I find such a philosophical mindset as silly. But that's just what I "perceive" I guess. :P

Response to: If you oppose gay marriage, why? Posted February 18th, 2009 in Politics

Hehe, this topic always makes me chuckle, because I live in a state where the issue makes people the most apeshit crazy: Arkansas.

You may have heard it in the news around the time of prop 8 being passed in california, while California decided to disalow the at the time legal marriage of gay couples, Arkansas took it about 5 steps further.

A few years ago, the Arkansas Family Council (a b.s. lobbyist group that only, and i mean only is concerned about things dealing with 'the gays'), tried to pass a law in arkansas that would make it illegal to and I quote:

"Make the adoption of children by homosexual couples illegal"

This was struck down by the supreme court, because it was an unconstitutional targeting based on sexual orientation. So they decided to regroup and made this new law that passed months ago.

"Make the adoption of children by any unmarried couple or single illegal"

Arkansas now has the most strict anti-adoption laws any state in this country has ever had since the founding of this nation. Our adoption rates are plumeting, and our orphanages will be as crowded as Californian prisons in a few years by some estimates. All for one purpouse: to make one more obstacle in the way of legalizing gay marriage.

Really for those that oppose it, I say this. Think about it. Should Marriage even be a legal term? If your specific church is against it, that's all fine and good. A gay couple probably would not even try to get married there. Other churches exist that allow it. But marriage, in the legal sense, should only be between 2 adults in general. All of the legal and taxation issues with marriage have absolutely nothing with the ability to pro-create.

It's a risky road to go down because things may get worse in arkansas. The population here is about 50/50 on the issue, and thanks to some clever wording of that bill, some people voted for it thinking that they were against it. the 64% 'yes' rate was a statistical abnormality compared to what the polls have been saying for months, so the anti-gay marriage movement here has gone to the extent of being okay with deception and throwing more children to the street just so two men or women don't kiss at the altar.

Yes, Leviticus says it is a "detestable sin". But Leviticus also says that the eating of shell fish and meat that is not well done is detestable. So lets be fair and ban Red Lobster while we're at it. Love, no matter what, is not a sin. And it the exact definition of being unchristian to judge and say "No, it is not love, it is a perversion".

Response to: Four day school week? Posted February 18th, 2009 in Politics

What we need is not less days of schooling, but less hours of schooling. A more flexible schedule, preferably block scheduling.

Take the German education system for example. Five days of school a week, but only about 5 hours of school a day or less. School generally starts at about 8:30 and ends at 1:00 for what we call "high school". For some schools that end a little later, there is a 45-60 minute intermission at about noon where students leave for lunch. This is a good economic decision, because there are no "school lunches". So the money is devoted more for the actual education. Also, there is more time for working at home.

Another aspect of the education system there is that there is a sort of pre-college, post-high school stage. "Normal" school ends at 11th grade. Then for grades 12 and 13, its high school that specializes in what the student is going to major in in college. After that, real college.

There has to be something right they are doing, Germany I believe is in the top ten (maybe top 5) in the world education rank. What are we now? 35th or something?

Response to: Can you submit any Movie? Posted February 18th, 2009 in Where is / How to?

Looking at the main page for flash animations can be deceiving to what the true median quality and overall "goodness" of a flash is. Most of those are made by people with years of experience with the programs.

Take a look around at the recently submitted list of the flash portal at any given time of the day. Mainly those that are "Under Judgment". They are not as good as what you think your flash is up against.

Generally, if you have a legitimate concern for your animation being blamed, it probably wont. A good deal of blams come from flashes with names like "eat my [insert profane noun here]" so I wouldn't worry about it. Go ahead and submit.
