^ This, absolutely. Good ol' Loomis once wrote "It's ten percent how you draw and ninety percent what you draw." and emphasized that skill is the prerequisite for both. It's not "one or the other". If you lack skill then your imagination will go to waste and if your skill is prefect but you lack imagination you can't do anything more than a photo could do.

"Photography is not allowed in either public or private galleries. We prefer to keep the spotlight on hand-made works. Photographs of sculptures, paintings or other hand-made items are acceptable."
Yeah, it is not allowed in the art portal, but from what I know, it is allowed in the art forum. I'd recommend mentioning "photography" in the title if you want to make a showcase thread. And make sure it's more than just a handful of mobile phone pics. lol
Are the PayPal donations already added to the total on kickstarter? Not expecting it to make up for the missing 17k of course.
Do I get it right, that PayPal donations are not included in the current total on kickstarter yet?
I am not even dreaming that there is enough money on there already to get somewhere close to the desired 30k but it would be interesting to see how much that additional donation method really helps.
Only 5 days to go, but I still hope a miracle happens and carries this thing safely over the 30k mark.
Congrats to the Eddsworld crew, it's amazing how fast the fans and supporters raised the money!

I was exaggerating of course, what I wanted to say is, that you will get used to it with some practice. It shouldn't take you too long since you know how to draw, all you need now is get used to get the "new feel" for the hand-eye coordination.
Of course, it's not like I want to make you abandon mouse drawing, I just thought you could benefit from a tablet too for some drawings and occassions.
What I get from your explanations is that you have practiced drawing with the mouse for years while you only had a handful attempts with the tablet and yet the mouse drawing is only slightly better than the tablet drawings.
There are however artists who can create stunning art with the mouse, complete with coloring and proper shading.
I suggest practicing with a tablet for the same amount of years you spent on drawing with the mouse and then draw another portrait for comparison. ;)

I did some work on the character, which I'm quire pleased with.
It's a cool drawing, and btw I like your art and style generally, but I think it's unfortunate that so many details get lost in the completely black shades. Apart from that, I also like the work you did on it.
Thanks for the detailed explanations Hikarian and (person in charge of) NATA. That looks like a pretty interesting and convenient setup.

I see what you did there!
Congrats to all the animators so far. I love the match-ups, it looks like there will be some close decisions.
How did you decide who is paired against each other? Random? Based on the points of the previous round? Or a combination of both?
Looking forward to more great entries.

I was going to resave and repost mine to work on the new background, but I can't find it... guess it was on my external drive that just died! oh noes!!!
Aawww RIP pink copterphant source file. But you could.... you know.... draw another one. There can't be enough copterphants. ;)
2-3 images does not an Art101-worthy thread make. *cries silently in the corner*
I am almost sure that sentence is screwed up. It has been added by Art101's little magical helpers in the meantime. Thanks!
And about the number of pictures, I know some talented people in some forum on newgrounds who could fix that problem. They could even just be reading this in this very moment, who knows?

After finding this thread, I just had to draw a copterphant. I am surprised it's not in the themed threads list on Art101.

Sign up there and then post your pipeline username here so ornery can invite you. A direct link to your profile would be handy too.

Yeah, that's what I meant.

As for the pic, it's really not bad. You should consider adding some shaded to it, instead of just adding lines to define the body's features and texture. This is a good opportunity to look at the original and apply similar shading. Don't just copy it but try to understand what Dürer did a little.
I just read a little about the story of the original art. Apparently Dürer has never seen a rhinoceros before and his drawing is based on the description and a rough sketch of another artist (thus it's not absolutely anatomically correct).
I think that is kinda impressive.
I don't use photoshop, but I am sure this tutorial can help you instead:

To be honest, I recommend posting more art here in this thread rather than complaining about too few feedback, that could increase your chance of getting actual advice.
But the bigger problem is that I don't even know what of that background is drawn by you and what is generated by some kind of software. Is this some sort of fractal? What did you use to create this? It's hard to critique overall, because it's an abstract design.
Don't worry folks, there are still some days left for the reviews, I am sure some artists just take more time with their reviews. A proper critique needs more time to be typed than "nice bewbs" and additionally it requires some thinking too.
Also, I don't think the rules state that participating artists can't compete in the review part as well. For the former non-competition floods, it was even encouraged that the artists review each other.... or actually, it was the point of the flood activity to begin with, if I remember right.

I believe the project has been either finished or abandoned.
Neither of those actually. As far as I know it has been paused because of the redesign and expected changes and is still not continued because Minecraft is constantly updated and that makes catching up on editing the textures difficult.
I hope this picks up some speed soon. I doubt anyone would mind pikapoop trying his hands on the armour.

I could see it in the portal all the time already. Maybe the portal filter buttons are screwed up somehow for you. Try unchecking and checking all again, or only checking A or M and so on...

Wow, can we please not let this discussion about her logo choice turn into a rant about her qualifications as mother? That's really uncalled for.
On topic, I'd recommend a little more details to eventually interest an artist in the idea. If you can offer some payment, then chances will increase that you get a proper logo, of course.
While both versions would do the job, I prefer the first black piece a little because the slightly lighter base color makes the shade more apparent.
Thanks for linking that test again, I saw it some time ago in the lounge, but didn't take it.
And about the topic, I only knew one guy at school who couldn't distinguish between red and green and he told me it looked almost the same as grey to him. He used to arrange pencils in the pencil case in some order, so he always knew where which kind of red and green was.

- the chess on top doesn't fit with the rest coloring/line-wise
- I'd make the rook's neck a bit wider, and move indentations between the merlons a bit to the sides; so it looks more round.
- I'd make the pawn's collar a bit thicker & maybe sink his head into it a bit more.
In addition to what J-qb said, I think the bishop, queen and king should be taller in comparison to the other pieces.
I like the pieces overall, very nice retro look.
