Nice drawing. But I think there is a problem with the outlines. They need to be either more visible or completely invisible..

I like the style in these last few few ones. But I would tweak the levels in photoshop a bit so all those black parts become proper black. Nice style :)

Last one for now. The 4 respones per thread per half hour is killing me :P
Perhaps I need to upload this to the art portal. The original is quite large..

The layering of the lines in some of these is where it gets iffy. Once it gets to 3 or 4 it gets too messy and busy. Try to do one on a larger scale, see how far you can go with it. Those are my two cents. :)

On some weird level it has been enjoyable, but I would never have done anything like this if it wasn't assigned to me. The spaceing between the lines could be better, but trust me, it is really, really hard to do. There are some girls who are insanely good at this though..

That and rules. There where a very specific set of rules we had to follow.. But it graduatley got more and more loose as we went along.

Well if I had been sitting home alone and done these then yes I would surely have bashed my own head in by now. But luckily I am sitting with some hillarious people and generaly have a real good time :)

Sooo.. Designschool is sweet.. No doubt, but some of the stuff we are being put through is a bit.. stiff.. For the last two weeks he have been working with basic composition. The following post will show how that is done around here. All of these are done by hand and took a ridicilus amount of time to make concidering what they are :P

I second that notion. Also the idea of a list of important links/threads made sticky sounds reasonble..

Just close and reopen the thread... then you can post again, no?

Works for me, but sometimes you have to wait a little while.. No biggie..

I have to say I pretty much like it as it is. I certainly don't think more rules is a good idea. Then every second post will just become a "hey n00b read tha rulez"-post. Pehaps there are some rules that can be made or explained in a simpler way even.

Nope no luck at all. I had already searched most of the places he provided beforehand anyway. I guess Im just going to have to get an existing font and modify it so its what Im looking for.

What the fuck is this google thing I keep hearing so much about?

well I guess if you just click the first link Gumby provided and go about halfway down the page you will find a font called blind lemon, it is a fairly close match to your sketch. Then all you have to do is to invert the b&w and pehaps draw the lines if you want that 3d. effect.

At 10/5/10 08:58 PM, AROSOFTHEDESERT wrote: I was wondering if this would be a good enough submission.

Since you are are asking I guess you must be able to handle some honest feedback. I just don't get why you think a character like this is worth spending your time on, but I guess it is just a matter of taste, so I am going to ignore that. However, there are some "technical" thing you should improve. And the truth is that right now you piece does not look submit worthy.

1: Lineart: It is sloppy. Fix that. Vary you line size and try to clean it up a bit. Don't let the endings overlap into parts of the drawing where they don't belong.
2: The body-paint (tattoos?) does not work at all. Tone it down perhaps. Or change the line color to a darker red. Alternatively leave the color as it is but give him a darker tan so it doesn't make him look so pale.
3: As mentioned, the hair should be bigger. His head looks small and weird. And the highlight (witch does in fact look like a gradient) really need to go. It looks horrible.
4: Background: Plain standard white? Don't be so lazy. At least change it so some a bit off-white. A lighter variation of the color of his pants perhaps. And maybe add "dirt" go give it a bit of texture. Right now it is desperately boring to look at.

Fix these things and you should be on the right track. Good day sir.

I as a I know (and keep in mind I have been gone for quite a while) there aren't any hardcore font-geeks frequenting this forum. So I suggest you start looking yourself. You know, perhaps you might even find a font even more fitting for your particular project. Good luck with the search..

thanks for the comment and advice

p.s. thanks j-qb for the comment as well

Yeah watercolor would probably fit your stuff quite nicely. Or perhaps you could try some ecoline-ink if you want some less vague colors.
