Thumbnail complaint. Posted December 12th, 2010 in Where is / How to?

Okay first of all I know there are other kinks that need fixing - but this is at the top of my list of priorities.

Here is my problem: I have a few artworks frontpaged recently (yay) and I noticed that a lot of trafic was directed on to some of my oldes drawings, but not my new ones. The reason was pretty obvious. The thumbnails presented in the left side of the screen when people are looking at my pictures are only some of the first pictures I have uploaded. Strange thing is that it's always the same 5 pictures, but not the first 5 pictures I have uploaded. Seemingly just a random pick from the first 10 or so pictures uploaded.

This bothers me since I, for obvious reasons, would like people to see my most recent stuff first. I don't mind people seeing my earlier (and more mediocre) stuff. But not unless they themselves are willing to go look for it.

I think this really needs to be working in a different way.

Hehe - perhaps. However this helps to illustrate why people have been mistakeing the parasite for a hat all this time.

Right - here's my entry. I will post the high-res as soon as the portal will allow me to.

Ever wondered where Santa came from? Why is he so happy all the time. Why does he fly around the world. Why on earth does he live on the northpole?

It's all because of this alien brain parasite, allow me to explain.

Back in 1868 a small canadian polar expedition sat sails for the artics. Long story short a member of the crew got this thing attached to his head and killed the rest of his crew.

The brain parasite has granted him an un-natural long life, but taken away most of his brain functions - he is basicly a retard - hence the dumb laughing all the time.

The white puffy thingy at the top of the alien are spores that once a year (christmas eve) is ready to be released out into the air and make new aliens. This is best done from the high velocity space shuttle that the alien had arrived to earth with. In fact it's so fast it can go around to every house on earth in just one night.

But don't worry - you won't know when your brain is taken over - that's the beauty of it.

It is quite good. Has very little to do with banksy though.

Alrighty then. Let's see.. First off, nice picture. I like it. The first thing that springs to mind that the use of the negative space could be improved. It's not really utilized right now. You could crop it so you have less "air" around the subject, or you could try to rotate it or move it left/right or some combination of it all. That would also make the composition a bit more tight. Right now it's very centralized and static.

I also think something needs to be done about the hair. The coloring and lines seems slobby. Worst part being the upward standing strands that doesn't have a solid brown behind them.

Good idea with texture in the bg, but that could also be connected better with the subject. Perhaps haveing the texture showing a bit through the characters would make it seem more natural.

Lastly I think the colors could be a bit more exciteing. The green is cool. But it would be interesting to see play up against another color. I would try red or pink. I like complementary colors.

Hope this was usefull.

Maybe Skype reads it as a phone number that you can dial.
Which is strange, because my Skype doesn't read it as a phone number.
Maybe because I have the newest skype?

I think M-Vero is right. I have the newest version too, but it probably because of the digits. In denmark we only have 8 of them in our phonenumbers. Strange thing though is skype wasn't open at the time. I would have thought it had to be.

I just got into the whole "digital art" business, so critiques are kindly accepted :)

That looks nice. What mediums were used?
If some critique is welcome then I would say that for further work then try to steer away from the symetrical composition. It's looks like you wanted to create some dynamical but with this composition then it becomes quite static. But I still like it though.
