I was thinking.... how about a global challenge, over the weekend we pick a short audio clip from the audio portal and then the task is just animate some sort of character dancin to it. Its so rare for me to actually animate something like that... it might be fun.. or not. but who cares. Then on monday we'll throw em all together and put em in a fla and someone can submit em.

Its not a joke, its just you have to think of what is 'sticky content' the beauty of those types of things is the ability to have it go all over the web. Thats what the alure of it is for advertisers. Honestly... if you arent like a major name like Egoraptor, i probably wouldnt bother with puttin the api on animations.. i wont do it for any of my movies. Games on the other hand its automatic. Cause if you arent gonna do it someone else will and will make loads off you.

Yea i dunno how he got an eCPM of a buck.. thats pretty insane :P

Hes not really talking about sponsors much the way most people think of them. He's talking about professional companies that post their flash on the site.

Its just a hard thing to judge what is 'professional'... even some of the amateur artists/devs here eventually do go pro, should the site close its doors after nurturing them? no.

'There she is' is made by a team of animators who from what i gather, work professionally. Should they not be allowed to show their work here? Should they be stashed elsewhere? The answer is no, its a competitive market wherever you go and whatever you do. Some of the funnest games could be the most crude, and some of the most ellaborate ones by the wealthiest companies could still fall flat. You should just not worry about it and go at your own pace and skill level.

Yea but its 'everything by everyone'. I mean seriously, you must know what youre getting yourself into if youre submitting content on this site?

One day you compete with Firth, the next you compete with Adult Swim.

COINCIDENTALLY, most of Adult Swim's games have gotten beaten out by amateur artists and developers so its fine and you shouldnt fear competition even if it is professional one.

This was a character that was supposed to be a hidden character named tracie in NG Rumble.
Never ended up using it though. The movements were too 'animated' and not suitable for a game. The attacks for example are animated well but would be too slow to actually be useable. Anyway i thought id share it. Its a shame to have a full spriteset done and then find that you arent using it.

Its not that simple though, and youd have to be a parent to understand. When you have a kid your life changes more dramatically than anything else... and you want nothing more than to give the world to your kid. That sentiment is touching, but problematic when those parents do have the world at their fingertips. I agree with you but its one of those easier said than done things.

The only thing that irks me about money in general is that at some point in your wealth you are scorned if you dont give back to charity or something. Your money almost stops becoming yours. Is it that outraggeous for someone wealthy to not be interested in donating money?

Its more a hypothetical one, rather than a personal one. I'm sure there are good wealthy people out there that live quiet lives in their prestine overpriced bubbles but they dont bother anyone or do anything unlawful, they are just very private with their wealth.

First timez

I think the first movie i saw was Scrotum the Puppy, i was drawn to the site by a club a seal banner ad that tom did. And after that I was pretty much hooked, i wanted to be bad and 'cool' like the other cool people submitting stuff so as most new users, my shit was immature and dirty. I eventually outgrew it and became more interested in the collaborative aspect of flash and so here we are almost 10 years later.

Basically, the likelihood of your deal being accepted depends on the quality of your work. If you show that with the right motivation, you can create a good product, it'll help convince them. Offering exclusive in-game features for the sponsor's site will also help.

Yea Joe pretty much covered it, though I think that its probably harder to get a sponsorship at an early stage nowadays than it was in the past. Blame it on the people who did that and burned their sponsors' by not releasing it or taking ages. It also helps if you have some sort of e-rep. Most sponsors wont trust you enough to give you a front of money on an engine if you dont have a solid offering based on past games youve done.

yeah, but you got like 48$ for 220k hits, but at my rate, Id need up to 800k to even touch that.

Its impossible to predict. because the ecpm isnt going to stay that way everyday. You might be featured on the Tonight Show suddenly and your ecpm could be astronomically high. Its just a very unstable thing much in the spirit of the internet.

Think of the phrase a hard way to make an easy living.

Sigh I wonder what gets this brilliant site such a bad reputation.

Meh the site still has a long ways to go towards fully shedding its roots. NG was notoriously known for being more about anime porn / whatever... and it probably still is in some circles. So its a neverending uphill battle to change first impressions. Who knows, the site may never change those impressions. I think the appeal for me is that im an actual person here on the site, if i want to i can drop the owner of the site a PM and get replied to at some point. Theres something more welcoming when the sites owner is mixing it up with everyone else. You dont see deviantart ceo making his own paintings or reaching out to his users. Its just a faceless website. Thats fine for artists not interested in a more 'mom and pop' type of establishment which i've always considered ng to be. Everythings made from scratch and with the userbase in mind.

It's a tough life for us Flashers.

the eCPM fluctuates alot. Generally, games fare alot better than animations in terms of generating revenue. I cant speak for your situation but for all our games, most of the money comes from outside of newgrounds, in other words the clickthroughs have come from foreign game portals etc. NG audience tends to be a bit fickle, so even if your movie is wildly successful here, it probably will do better if you leak it elsewhere. You should do that anyway, the beauty in ad-rev is exposure, you need to get your stuff posted any and everywhere.
Games do better because of their replayability and engaging factor.

great way to start a weekend when you are finally back home, so do you have anything in mind for the topic?

You know what would be 'neat' is to have a simple storyline and just base each of our things on the perspective of the guy. So like the topic is something like crazed guy goes to the gun shop to buy a gun. and so like in your version of it youd tell it from the story of the guy buying the gun and maybe in my version i tell it from the point of view of the shopkeep. And so as a set, itd be like a nice collection of the same story being told from both of the parties involved. I dunno im just thinking out loud
