From 2.49 to 2.50, blender had a interface redesign

So you can use tutorials from 2.50 to 2.61, because the interface is basicaly the same
But, you will not be able to do cool stuff, until you learn alot about the tool, it can took weeks or years, all depends of you

But i'm sure you will get good at blender really fast ;)

The actual version in the 2.61, so you have to look for 2.61 tutorials on youtube
